Deck discussion for Fire and Ice(burn/control)

nice deck, maybe you should try more creatures though

thats not what the deck was made for. the only reason kiln fiend is in there is because he has great synergy with the deck

Hey have you think about putting one or two fire/ice on that ? is a really nice card it could do great in this deck

It would be, but then it wouldnt be standard.

Oooh ok sorry ;P

Then :

For field control I would suppose that you have in mind :
Dissipation Field
Aether Adept
Turn Aside for protection
Some Ponder ?

Burn : I would use some Spark teetering Peak if you dont mind using tapped land (btw if you really dont mind use halimar depth 2 time could be a good idea) and of cource Assault Strobe

And BTW I dont think Zendikar is standard ;P

The whole zendikar block is standard, that includes zendikar, worldwake and rise of eldrazi. I am mostly focusing on burn/control and not the kiln fiend so i dont thing that teetering peeks would work. I will have to try out the other cards you mentioned though

not bad, you might want more pyromancer ascension though

Yes after watching more closely your deck I have seen that I head more into the redirect / burn and forgot your conterspell in the way ...

I would say that you should put in preordain. Do you think I should change anything else

No Distortion Strike?

0

I think its better not with that one mana you can do more and if you place a good hit its better I would put more distortion strike with a neurok invisimancer or something ...

The point is that with two Lightning Bolts, a Pyromancer's Ascension, a Kiln Fiend, and a Distortion Strike, you can deal 22 unblockable damage.

I will have to play test and see if I want that

I don't see a great need for reverberate, it's really only useful when you have expensive instant/sorcery. Maybe throw in an arc trail or two? Maybe sideboard them? Also i might sideboard some type of board sweeper like slagstorm.

Cool what about distorien strike? Use on kiln fiend and its gets +1+0 and unblokable and the bonus +3+0 from kiln fiend. Please check my blightsteel deck out

I just play tested it a bunch and distortion strike it amazing, thanks

If you have 2 kiln fiends and pyromancer ascension out you can make both of them unblockable with +4/+0 for 2 turns in a row

does anyone know if when distortion strike is cast from exile, it will double with pyromancer ascension and will the casting the spell from exile boost kiln fiends power?

0

the text on the card says you may "cast" it. so the answer is yes, it will work with kiln fiend and pyromancer's ascension.

I dont want to many cards based around kiln fiend, my only creature

Would Galvanoth work in this deck?

0

I don't think so. Most of the spells have a fairly low casting cost, and the scry cards allow you to get whatever instant or sorcery you want.

Chandra's Spitfire. Pay one extra mana, get two extra things (+1 Toughness and Flying)

Kiln fiend is still much better, and i need as many instant or sorcery cards as I can get to be able to activate pyromancer ascension.

Ah, I see it now. I was thinking it would be too bad if your Kiln Fiend got fried before you could attack, and was suggesting Spitfire for backup. But yeah, I don't think I would want to get stuck like that either.

I would say take out Distortion Strike; if you don't have Kiln Fiends on the field, it's absolutely useless. Also Call to Mind sort of screws with Pyromancer Ascension's workings as well as being fairly expensive. I would agree that Kiln Fiend is better than Chandra's Spitfire in this deck though; Chandra's triggers off noncombat damage while Kiln triggers off casting, which works better with blue. For extra control, and especially when your Pyromancer has ascended, I would recommend Melt Terrain. It's an incredibly useful card in almost any red deck, in my opinion, just be sure to include sideboarded alternatives in case you're going against something like a green ramp that renders it useless.

Melt terrain is good, once i get my hands on some i will test it out. almost every game i have played distortion strike and kiln fiend has done amazingly. also Call to mind is awesome. If I have pyromancer ascension and an instant/sorcery in the graveyard and a the same card in my hand i can play the instant/sorcery, get a counter call to mind it and play it again (which i have done many times). also once pyromancer's ascension have 2 counters on it, I can get an instant/sorcery then get call to mind back with the copy of call to mind. Say hello to being able to get lightning bolt back over and over again.

I know that like you said your deck is not based around Kiln Fiend, but it maybe a good idea to add a few Assault Strobe to the deck to double up any damage plus adds another +3/+0 to the Kiln Fiend. It's a great idea for any deck using Kiln. Another idea is adding Reverberate to your deck can you imagine if you had a Pyromancer Ascension in play with counters needed to play it's ability, and play Lightning Bolt and Reverberate, doing a copy over copy of Lightning Bolt.

Wouldn't fire servant be a useful addition to this deck? I know you function on only a few creatures, but if he were out, you'd get double all your direct damage spells...

what about cancel or stoic rebuttal?

0

cancel costs too much to be effective. It would be better have spell pierce than cancel or stoic rebuttal

I suggest:
- 4 Call to Mind
- 4 Foresee

+ 4 Assault Strobe
+ 4 Pyretic Ritual

I have a mono red deck with virtually the same name. Its mono red (the ice comes from snow covered lands) and has a much different strategy but I thought that was funny. I really like this idea, I ran pyromancers early on in my build but found that I couldn't utilize it as well as I should be able to and you do a nice job of that here.
