Deck discussion for T2 Vamps for FNM - Updated

You can really put a hurt on a control deck without splashing red like that.

First, mainboard 4 Bloodghasts, not 1. They're a removal nightmare, and if it gets countered, who cares, you'll be putting him right back into play the next turn for free 60% of the time anyway.

Bloodghast either hits the board or eats a counterspell for you, then comes in a turn or two later. Big winner.

I would definitely lose the 2 Nightmares. They're a nice 6/6 flyer by the time you can play him, but he's very easy to remove, and no haste means he is not a surprise attack of any kind.

You can defnitely afford to reduce the land in the deck as well. You're running mono-black, so ditch 2 piranha marshes and 1 swamp for a better ratio.

Overall, the deck looks like a weak version of MB Vamps. Lose the tutors, replace with 2 more sign in bloods, lose 2 hideous ends in the mainboard, replace with 1 feast of blood and 1 more vampire nighthawk. And no Nocturnus is probably not good, either.

I don't have 4 bloodghasts, hence I am using the only one I have. Nor do I have Nocturnus and I'm not pay $10 for a card like that - it's just not worth it.

The Nightmares are in there because of Undead Slayer. I play an opponent who is white/blue who is able to keep Undead slayer out by countering all of my removal spells. Nightmare is my only savior in that case since it can't be exiled. Moreover, when the game is at a stalemate, Nightmare is a game-changer.

I don't see how replacing Hideous End with Feast of Blood makes sense either as this is an aggro deck, and therefore I am trying to inflict damage faster.

I agree that Vampire Nocturnus is to overratted, 99% of the time it's removed before it does anything, bloodghast is a great card however, if you need more go to a local card store on Friday night, once the tournament is over there are always a ton of people willing to trade, thats how I got my playset. Good luck.

i run a vampire deck at fnm in eugene and i am running 2 bloodgasts and 2 nighthawks and ya the nighthawks get killed quickly no one likes life gain and deathtouch while u can never really get rid of bloodgasts. I would also suggest pulse trackers for early game dmg and maybe a kalestra highborn
