Deck Description

1. Engineering explosives is supposed to be good against the aggro decks which this deck can have trouble with.

2. This deck did a whole lot of nothing the first few turns... so I decided judge's familiar, inquisition, raise the alarm, and beckon apparition were necessary. The main token generators are all 3 drops so that's the biggest flaw of the deck, and I am trying to mitigate this. Some other builds I've seen run more disruption in the form of tidehollow sculler. I may consider it if combo decks become a problem but usually the two drops are for my anthems.

3. I build this deck solely to make a home for Obzedat. I'm dead serious. The typical BW midrange decks were too expensive and lacked the synergy I wanted in a deck, since it basically uses single unfair cards to win the game. Obzedat was ridiculously powerful in standard, probably more than most people realized considering few people ran 3 or 4. I think it is certainly good in Modern, at least better than Sorin or Elspeth Knight Errant. Elspeth Tirel is a possible addition to the deck though. The thing about Obzedat is that it's almost like a 4-drop because it gains you 4 life and 4 drain before it even attacks.

4. Considering some of the high-drops in this deck, I found shining shoal to be a good discard outlet with a lot of benefits. The best aspect of this card is that you can be completely tapped out of mana and have no blockers, and utterly troll your opponent. Its few restrictions is what makes it good. It is also not a bad idea to discard lingering souls. Windbrisk heights also help us drop the big guns.

5. Going back to point # 2, I did not want too many "reactive cards" like path to exile or beckon apparition, though both are fantastic under the given circumstances. Judge's familiar puts in a fair amount of pressure in the early game and I'm surprised more people don't run it.

6. Wasn't even sure if drogskoll captain or kira were even worth running but we'll see. I actually have not been able to test this deck yet. It's possible they are "win-more" but I wanted cards that could support the tokens and provide defense to Obzedat, who is basically unkillable with these two.

7. I will eventually be able to trim the 64 cards into 60... I just don't know what to cut. I seriously need help with the land distribution.

I think that the deck should run pretty well I might play this in modern after I get all of the cards.

I don't own this deck or have played it... I'd be interested to know how it tests for you. The main deck seems alright but the land distribution is probably somewhat mediocre. I suggest you look into other esper builds and use your best judgment on how to fix it (a.k.a I'm too lazy to do this myself haha).
