Deck Description

Trying to keep this mostly spiders, but I'm attempting to run BoP/ProgMim combo to pump out recluse tokens with deathtouch.

How to Play

(In a perfect world)
Turn 1 : forest + BoP
Turn 2 : Swarmyard + Deadly Recluse
Turn 3 : Nykthos + Kessig Recluse
Turn 4 : Arctic Flats + BoP
Turn 5 : Land + Doubling Season
Turn 6 : Progenitor Mimic on Kessig
Turn 7 : Ajani
Turn 8 : ???
Turn 9 : Profit

Drop Norn's Annex to stall, and use fog and the like to keep yourself alive. Honestly, by turn 8 you'll be all but impervious to damage and bringing out 2 more Kessig Recluse's each turn. Add another Progenitor or another Doubling Season and you're on it.
I vote for replicating Kessig because of the 2 green mana devotion, which makes Nykthos ridiculous 2 turns into it. Playing against flyers? Not after you drop silklash and have 4 Kessig tokens (which means you have a Kessig (2 devotion), the Progenitor replica (2 more devotion), plus 8 more devotion from the 4 tokens. (12 total). Not many fliers can handle 10 dmg and keep flapping.

My sideboard is a list of cards I had considered while I was putting this together.

Deck discussion for Spider Keeper's

Leave a msg if you feel like something else would help out! I'd like to keep the feel of the deck but I'd also like some ideas on improvements.

Ok, I made the deck Modern by removing the Savannah cards and replacing them with Arctic Flats, and dropping Gaea's Cradle for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Taking Cithiri's advise, I dropped some of the diversity of my deck and bulked up on the number of individual creatures. I'm TRYING to run the Progenitor mimic, but I have a feeling that only having 3 of that mana color with Birds of Paradise I won't have enough to consistently use that. I'm hoping for a doubling season or two on the field once he drops though. Armies of recluses with deathtouch *evilgrin.jpg*

Some cards that I would trade out, archweaver, blightwidow, bountiful harvest. I'd suggest getting more of enlarge, silklash spider, and arachnus spinner.

You think running 2 or 4 spinners? Also, I can see the archweaver/blightwidow removal, but what about giant spider? He's kinda my least favorite lol.

I was also looking for spider token generation, even if only to activate arachnus spinner's ability while leaving deathtouch spiders untapped to block. I found Crib Swap and Spider Spawning, but Spider Spawning is based on creatures in my graveyard, and I hope to not have very many of those. Crib Swap is ok except my deck is low on white mana and it's still only 1 at a time. Any thoughts?

Yeah, giant spider too, just forgot to mention that one. And definitely more spinners, his effect is pretty good if you ask me, I'd say probably 2, 3 at max because of high CMC. As for spider token spawning... I don't know much. Spider spawning is a good one, but you have a good point of not wanting creatures in your graveyard, unless you changed the deck around to accommodate that with more cards from innistrad that give you long term benefits from having creatures in your graveyard, but that would probably be too much of a change to the deck in my opinion. The only other card that I know of personally is renown weaver, but it's not going to do anything spectacular for you. There's also penumbra spider, but again, that wouldn't do much unless you had a way of continually getting him back on the field and dying again to spawn tokens. Then again, with double seasoning, a late game spider spawning could be a game winner. I don't know if parallel lives' and double seasoning's effects stack with each other, if they do, then you might want to put some of that in there, if not, then ignore it, but check. Don't know about crib swap, but I think that that isn't every turn, just a one time effect. But there may be something to looking into changelings for activating arachnus' effect. Another thing, which I forgot to mention in my first comment. You need more copies of cards, instead of just one or two of many different cards. Find the best ones and put in multiples of them in the deck (keeping the CMC in mind that is). Having just one of some cards isn't a good idea. Good luck with getting those tokens out!

Thanks so much! Yeah, I agree about perhaps going with just 4 types of spiders (Arachnus, the Recluses, and Silklash for those pesky flyer's) and having 3-4 of each. It'll definitely help with the reliability of this deck. It'd sure be nice if there was a Planeswalker that put spider tokens out (hopes WotC is listening lol).

I'll post some updates here in a few days once I play with the updated deck.

So I printed my proxies today, and did a mockup game against another deck of mine, my God's Army deck listed on here (I played both sides). Once I got Progenitor Mimic on the board, it was pretty mean. Once I had PM AND Doubling Season out, it was downright evil. At one point I was spawning 4 Kessig Recluse's a turn. Took 3 turns to go from 7-41 (life totals) to 21-0. I'll vote that as a win any day.

Nice! Glad I could help! I do that all the time, playing both sides of a duel to test out decks. Lol, makes me feel lonely.
