Deck Description

Standard, Grixis control...

How to Play

Counterflux is awesome against Devotion aggro, since those decks can produce multiple threaths within 1 turn, even at late-game, especially mono-red & mono-black...

Anger, Mortars & late-game Rifts easily crush any aggro deck... ...to deal with Master of Waves, it's easy, just keep Hero's Downfall for it, or cast may be just Away from Far // Away after an Anger, or such... ...you can aslo counter it with Counterflux, or sideboard 1-2 Death's Approach wich is also suited to take out gods... ...however, you can also counter gods, or after a wipe, like Anger, or Mortars, you can make the opponent sacrifice it, or return it to his/her hand & than counter it, may be after a Rift with Overload, you can Counter the right threats when played again... ...pretty much the same as with Master of Waves.......

Rakdos Charm is also very useful against aggro, 'cuz when you got overwhelmed & you have nothing else that could work, pherhaps it's an early-game assault by the opponent & you don't have Anger of Gods, it's too early for Mortars, or Rift & you have no other choise, just cast Charm for it's 3rd ability & the opponent weakens, if not dies as well... ...after that, before the combat damage step, you can eleminate the biggest threat(s) by casting (a) cheap removal spell(s)... ...of course, Rakdos Charm is also fine against reanimator, or mono-black... ...you can exile the cards in your opponent's graveyard & than he/she can't return Abhorrent Overlord with Whipe of Erebos... ...you can also deal with Pitching Needle & such.......

Peak Eruption is awesome against mono-red, Gruul & even against any 3 color deck that has red in it, you'll just destroy their mountain-type shocklands & even weaken the opponent & slow him/her down, mess up his/her game...

Rakdos's Return is good against slowly-working deck & also any deck with good drawpower... ...it's the ultimate counter for Revelations as you know it already... ...useful against control, since I don't have much medicine for those decks in the main deck... ...that's why I keep 3 Negate in the sideboard as well... ...Peak Eruption could also mess up the rhythm of USA, Grixis, Jund & R/B/W control decks, even Naya aggro/ramp decks & that additional 3 damage is awesome when I have a Demon out, or about to cast a Dragon(or already out)... ...the extra AEtherling is also most useful against control decks & any deck with a strong set of removal... ...it just survives anything that could be thrown at it.......

So far this deck works very well as I'm testing it...

What changes would you make?..

Deck discussion for The Cycle of AEthernal Anger

Well this looks like you put a lot of thought into it. Very nice!

May I suggest to you Turn // Burn due to how it can take care of a Master of Waves (or at least their tokens).

Thanks! :)

I forgot Turn // Burn... ...it can also take care of gods & basically anything...

personally, i would hit more counter spells, such as syncopate or dissolve. also, i would run underworld connections over read the bones if possible, i just see it as a more viable draw option in most cases. Also, I think thoughtseize is a good option if you can pull it, it's a great turn one removal. if you don't mind, take a look at my grix control i'm working on and give me any suggestions as well. http://www.mtgvault.com/urdaddy65/decks/grix-control/

Thank you!

I find Counterflux the most relyable counter spell these dayes, since devotion & ramp decks playing multiple spells at many turns... ...I'd add more counters, but I'm in more need for board removal, because of Desecration Demon...

Connections is slower than bones & also offers less choises... ...sure I can draw more than 2 cards with it, but not at the same time... ...if I want to draw a card when I play it, I need 4 mana & 1 life just for that one card & if I want to draw more than I could with Bones, than it costs me at least 3 lives... ...Bones offers a choise to "scry off" cards I don't need & lets me draw 2 cards immediately for 3 mana & just like with Connections, the 2 cards require 2 lives... ...Bones is much faster than Connections, so the game won't be decided on my draw-speed.......

I wanted to use Thoughtseize, I'm just lacking space to splice it in...

Right, and i do apologize, but i may have just suggested underworld on another deck of yours, so just ignore that :p
Anyway, yeah, I guess I dig what you want to do with counterflux, I see your point there.

and for thoughtseize, if you think it'll feed what you want, i would go to 3 mortars and 3 bones to place two thoughtseize in. Other than that I can't exactly think of anywhere else you could put it unless you cut a peak eruption or negate from the sideboard to board it in.

Yeah, I really can cut a Bones, but I donno' about Mortars... ...feel like I need all 4...

I could see your point with Mortars. My suggestion, if you wanted to, would be to cut a sideboard card to side in an extra one. It makes sense though, I think, to only run one if you wanted to get it in.

That would be right I think... ...I'll try it that way against all types of decks in both 2 & 3 round matches...

Thanks!
