Deck Description

This is one of the very first EDH decks I ever created, and though it has evolved over time, the idea is the same - Lock down the board and bleed everyone dry. It also has some zombies, because I really like zombies.

Deck discussion for Fly Blackbird, Fly

Hey, you finally found it!

I did! It was admittedly hiding in plain sight. I still have many more of my decks to find among the boxes and nooks/crannies left in the wake of our move, but I was extraordinarily happy to have found this one.

The first card I see is Anvil of Bogardan, and it just kind of followed suit in terms of cruelty. But then I see Neverending Torment... Epic spells are just plain cruel in EDH, but that one especially.

There is actually quite the amusing anecdote about Neverending Torment and its place in the deck. You see, SWN claimed that Extraction is impossible in the size, scope, and versatility of EDH. To which I replied, "Is that so?".

Now, he was of course 99% correct, which brought me great consternation, but I stubbornly prevailed. I proposed, what if instead of the typical surgeon's blade employed by most extraction methods, I go about things in a messy bludgeoning sort of affair.

That was where Neverending Torment came in. There is nothing pretty about the card, or what it does, but it does do the job.

To go further with the idea of that, Bitter Ordeal, Life's Finale, and Sadistic Sacrament are options of great pain.

I don´t understand EDH as well as you guys, but dammit, Quasi... You and your posse just keep M:tG imploding in on itself. I have a question for you, though; how long does it take for you to create an mtg deck (edh set aside)? I mean, from idea to a complete autonomous piece of destruction?

Btw, Quasi, your 'Method of Madness' inspired me to create a mbc deck. So, thank you very much for the inspiration. Just need to playtest it, if I´m lucky that any Legacy players show up, on Friday =)

It really depends from deck to deck. I've made decks in as little time as about 30 seconds to form the idea in my head and have a list of cards on paper, but with other things it can take me a substantial amount of time before I call a deck finished. My PAL deck "Destroy something beautiful" that was later edited into "Tu fui, ego eris", had taken a little over 2 YEARS to make.

Now, those are both extremes, so if you want an average...For me it's about 5-10 minutes.

SWN is a freak, however.

It takes me anywhere from a half hour to two hours in most occasions.

I think the longest a deck has taken me to design was my original Iso-Seek Poxtraction, but most of that was research time taken on other decks to maximize each aspect I wanted to use, the deck itself took less than a week to make.
Arguable point is that I view most of my designs as incomplete, I am always looking for a way to make each and every one perfect. Most notably I think this has been visible with Reanimator, and Pox. The creature suite for Reanimator more or less only changes with sets, but Pox is always in my mind if I'm thinking about MtG.

On average though, for a working build that lasts a set, my general time is less than ten minutes, and edits to designs I have made before take less.

I've made my own version of Maralen, called 'Marley and Friends' - Credit goes to you, Quasi =) Thanks for the inspi. I'll link to this gem asap.
I keep stumblin' though. Whenever I see this, I want to advise you to add 'Skullclamp'... then I re-read Maralen and get embarrassed, haha.
Mine's here I you want to peek =) http://www.mtgvault.com/blckfirphoenx/decks/marley-and-friends/

I'm pleased to be a bringer of inspiration. I'll glance at your deck when I get the chance. I am quite busy as of late, I just got a new client that is quite demanding of my time. No complaints from me though, my services aren't exactly cheap, so this needy client is paying for my next vacation and then some.

So... I took it as a challenge, and did the best I could within mono-Black EDH to create something that can rip a deck apart. Wound up putting the graveyard-based Spirits in there too. Don't know why, just did.

Never having met Artemis, I've always imagined him as looking as Tom Hiddleston, but sounding like Bill Nighy for whatever reason.

I've been told many a time that I look like a taller, slimmer Ewen McGregor…Who I sound like I haven't the slightest idea.

You sound like a cross between Sir Ian McKellen and David Tennant.

That's quite a compliment, though like Becham, it depends entirely on the moment of Ewan McGregor being thought of. That description of your voice however, that is a complement up there with Lionel Richie asking you if it's him you're looking for.

I'd probably not go as far as Louis(who happens to be my favorite comedian from the states, so kudos), but I'm not going to lie, Ewan McGregor is a damnably pretty man.

Soooooooo when M15 hits the shelves, you need to grab a copy of the new Ob Nixilis for this.

I motion it be an automatic inclusion for EDH MBC, it's that good.

Yeah, even without the absurd douchebaggery that happens with Ob 2.0 and Maralen (Honestly! A forced 13 life loss?! Oh dear god!), he's a great inclusion to most, if not all mono-black EDH lists. Tutoring is a big part of EDH and smacking someone for 10 is a less-than-subtle way of saying "NOT TODAY!"

It's an absolutely wonderful combination, Oby 2.0, and Maralen, but there has never been a bigger slap in the face to Sisay than Oby 2.0. That alone merits use, but then with the near constant pump that can be offered? Simply marvelous.

I was planning to build a deck with maralen as commander and unshackled in the deck but I keep running back to where maralen lets your opponents find what they need to stop you. my 1st thought was running discard but in edh I think it isn't fast enough to protect the combo as a main win condition.

this is my main edh and I thought of just putting maralen and unshackled in it as extra win condition since I cant figure out how to base a deck of of just that combo
