yes and yes both of you are right, but if he only has 2 being the top of his mana curve he really wouldn't need much more than 18 or so lands assuming he has card draw and can play a card each turn.

Pentarch Ward would be ideal, spirit mantle is also good since it allows you to block with ease if needed, although spirit mantle does not protect from removal.
needs totem armor or protection from a color type aura for Zur.
thing needs much more land.

you should use supreme verdict instead of day of judgement.
I would swap out the Vigor's and wolfbraid elementals and put in more low cost elves that give you mana.
