No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Technically I have 195 decks...but a celebration is a celebration =]

Thanks to everyone who makes this website so great, you know who you are =D

What I'd like from everyone is to list your favorite card of each color, and then feel free to ask me a question (or a few) and I'll try to answer them as honestly as I can =]

Colorless - birthing pod because I love my deck I built around it :)
White - orim's chant
Green - preist of titania because she's boss!
Black - Phyrexian obliterator
Red - lightning bolt, hands down the best low cost creature killer ever made!
Blue - brainstorm

Out of my decks which one do you like the most?
And which one do you hate the most?
Don't be afraid to get ugly :)

Well for liking the most...It's a toss-up between either the Savra EDH, or that Isamaru EDH. Savra's always been one I've wanted to do, but I never got around to, and I like the layout of yours. And the Isamaru...with ever card costing 1, that's honestly really cool =]

Hate the most...eh, I dunno man. It's actually NOT what you probably think it is, but I don't think I can pin one down right away =/

White would have to be Rule of Law, simply put I find it exemplifies the colour better than any other.

Green I have to give to Nature's Claim, it's won more games for me than Tarmogoyf or ramp can hope since I've dabbled in eternal formats.

Red card goes to Lightning bolt. I hate red.

Blue I have to say that right now I'm digging Vendillion Clique, I'm playing CounterTop Emrakul in RUG, and it wins me soooo many games it's stupid.

My favourite black card is Contamination right now, while everybody uses things they're still just tinkering around with to get them operational, I use MBC(muahahahahahahahaha)

Ooh. Literary conversation. Mind if I join?
Ender's Game; I started that one a couple years ago. I really enjoyed it, and I believe that it is definitely one of the best sci-fi series on the market. I've heard tremendously positive things about the rest of the series, but haven't gotten around to reading them.
The Odyssey: My favorite epic, hands down. Unless you count War and Peace, which is prose, so... Compared to the Iliad, which is more invigorating and angry, I think the Odyssey really captures a great slice of human suffering. It's beautiful.
I can't say I've heard of the others. Mind giving me a 1-2 sentence hook on them?

0

To be quite frank, while amazing as the Odyssey is, I've always found the Aeneid to be my preference for an epic read. Virgil's works are woefully underrated, and in my opinion eclipse the works of Homer.

And Ender's Game is sadly on my to buy list, I had gone to get it at Barnes and Noble, but I found a H. P. Lovecraft anthology. My resolve shattered the instant I found The Colour Out of Space on the list XD

0

The Mote in God's Eye is probably the single greatest sci-fi story dealing with the first time humans encounter alien life.

Cat's Cradle...Well damn, I'd almost go as far to say it's about everything. It's probably my favorite book of all time though, and I highly recommend it, it's one of those books that gives you a greater way of seeing the world =]

Thanks man, appreciate that =]

Actually there is. I've always wanted to make the original design of the infamous Tolarian Academy deck (as designed by Tommi Hovi in 1998). As an Extraction player, it might seem odd that I'd be so fascinated by a combo deck, but in truth, this was one of the first, and most brilliantly thought out combo decks ever made. It's kinda like a modern gunsmith still wanting an M1911, or a racecar driver wanting a Model-T =]

No love for Concede or Bleed? :O

I have respect, but not to the same degree as with Tolarian. At its time, nothing so genuinely inspired and, let's face it, counter-intuitive, had really been seen. When you actually break down the thought process of how he would have made a deck like that, at that time in MTG's history, with the cards available to him...It just blows your mind. It it, to me, the first "holy shit" deck.

not a prob, just givin credit where credit is due man. and hmm imma have to look that deck up now. i actualy havent herd of that deck before. sounds pretty insaine realy. sounds like it would be fun to attempt a damn near mirror version of it with modern day cards. idk if its possiable but hey might be worth lookin into lol.

0
Posted 07 February 2012 at 05:58

I can dig it, I've just always had to give more respect to Concede or Bleed personally since it's what really made the world see what extraction tactics can do.
Tolarian being one of the original "holy shit" decks doesn't mean as much to me as it being one of the first combo decks that functioned properly, I looked at that deck alongside ChannelBall for the basics for how I perceive a combo build.

0
Posted 07 February 2012 at 06:16

Yeah, but CorB was still pretty straight forward...It's an amazing deck, and I obviously respect the hell out of it, but it wasn't so distinctly weird. Many of the components to Tolarian's combo were at that time, and still to this day, things a good player would generally never want to do, or even think of doing.

If Tolarian didn't exist though, it'd probably be CorB =P

If goblins got a planeswalker, who would it be?
Also, don't forget to read Ender's shadow after Ender's game. It is completely worth it.

0
Posted 07 February 2012 at 06:39

That's...a good question. To be quite honest, a planeswalker for goblins would never actually exist. By their very nature it wouldn't make much sense for a goblin to have the spark. Granted, it's possible, just pretty unlikely. If it were to happen, it would more than likely be some human rebel that a bunch of goblins obey. If it were to ever be an actual goblin though...It would probably be Wort. She's actually portrayed as being intelligent for a goblin, and fits better than any others.

0

I've been hoping for awhile for a Squee walker, though I would be happy with Wort--she is probably the most wicked EDH general I run right now.

Yes, Squee has come up before. I would hate to see the mirror match with Squee as a planeswalker though.

Liliana turn one is just brutal... i try not to think about it much. Haha! No worries on not diggin my band. It's definitely not for everyone. But after all this time everyone calling me drumhead... I figured i'd "show" my skills.

White and blue, ironically I used to HATE that song because when we jam on it in my garage i can never hear the bass or guitar for crap so it never sounded like i was playing the right thing or in time, but after we recorded it i fell in love with the song and understood why my bassist and guitar player loved it so much. I had fun tracking some vocals for that one. Both times you hear "I will show no mercy" it's me doing it. Little screaming and singing.

Oh, and Sure... I wish i could play the Kazoo too... it's a totally underrated instrument... ha!

Your band is growing on me a lot dude, and I can see how you would run into that problem in garage situation, your drumming is brutals man!

I have yet to meet anybody in my life who can actually play a Kazoo, it truly is a difficult and underrated instrument. http://www.myfacewhen.com/i/450.jpg

Liliana turn one is pretty brutal, but I still like turn one Thoughtseize better actually.

0

Oye, turn one thoughtseize into surgical extraction is still one of my favorite combos to abuse. My friends actually all started playing with mental misstep because of it... even my friend who despises blue!

I appreciate the compliment on my drumming. It means a lot man. I'm self taught, so any compliment is always good. Have you "liked" us yet or are you still dealing with issues? Haha

0

No, I finally got my settings to work! And I look forward to hearing more of your drumming man, it's brutal as hell, but it's cleanly executed. Increasingly a rarity these days, so it's nice to hear somebody with 'touch'.

Oh jeez... Doing that with misstep involved just means so many cards being dumped on turn one that it's silly.

Firstly I'd like to thank you for giving me a migraine level headache, you just had to make me chose one card for each colour -.- Well, here are my choices:

Red = Dragonstorm. This card just screams "build a deck around me" and once I did, I got consistent turn 3 / 4 wins :)
Green = Heritage Druid. I play a lot of 'hord' decks, mostly elves, and this elf gets me my bust of turn 3 attacking horde :p
White = Guardians' Pledge. It's surprising how many people don't expect this card when I attack with 3 - 6 flying white wheenies and when I do play this, it normally wins me the game :)
Blue = Propaganda. This awesome enchantment does exactly what I feel blue often needs, protects the player until the win condition is achieved (normally a combo).
Black = Living End / Living Death. These 2 cards are effectively the same card, so I couldn't chose one. These cards do what I feel black is all about (flavour wise) - create life out of death.
Colourless = Sensei's Devining Top. Effectively, this card increases your hand size by 3. And the fact that it is so difficult to get rid of makes it that much more awesome :p I currently own 8 of this card :D
Land = Forbidden Orchid. The deck I use this in is by far my most favourite deck. Giving the opponent a small army often feels like a bad idea, but when you capitalize on it, the opnent starts to look for a way to get rid of the land and ignores the rest of the deck (most of the time) :p

Have you ever lost any sleep because of one of your deck builds? Maybe because you couldn't figure out what or how to tweak the deck to make it that little bit more efficient / stable.

Red - Kilnmouth Dragon or Magma Sliver. Cant decide.

Green - Krosan Warchief. This was the first card I ever built a deck around, I remember it had Thresher Beast and Canopy Crawler in it. It was pretty bad, but no one's first deck is ever that good.

White - Serra Avenger I guess. I don't play white much.

Blue - Azami, Lady of Scrolls. The card draw is outrageous to the point of being unfair.

Black - Hymn to Tourach. Getting hit with a pair of them early in a game is just so hard to recover from, I guess you could say its my least favorite card as well.

Multicolored - Boggart Ram-Gang. I dunno why, but I love this card to death.

Colorless - I gotta agree with Ded on this, the Diving Top is friggin good. What he said, but I only own a single copy that I pulled from a pack (sadly).

Land - Fetid Heath. Amazing mana source, amazing art, amazing everything.

Anyways, do you think this will see tourny play or are spirits getting too powerful to do anything else(except spam black sun's zenith 11 times in 1 match, I've seen it done, lol)

Oops, should say a favorite card at least.

Well, while I don't really have too much of an idea yet, I'd say Goblin Grenade(or Gobo Grenade as I call it), Scrapyard Salvo or Goblin Gavilier.

Grenade because it's the lulz of "Play a playset of grenades and win" and Scrapyard since someone could go creeping corrosion on you then you smack them for like 10+ damage with one spell right afterwards.

The Gavilier is hiralious when you put outlots of 0 cost artifacts, cast Gavilier and bludgeon brawl, put everything on the gobo then swing for 20+, lol.

Haha, a SWN AMA? Sounds good.

W:Mobilization, or Elspeth Tirel.
U: Scornful Egotist. Just the concept of him cracks me up.
B:Since I feel like saying Dark Ritual would be a cop-out, I'll go with Sign in Blood.
R:Taurean Mauler. That guy is BOSS in multiplayer games.
G: Seton, Krosan Protector. Long-time attachment to that guy--most badass artwork, imo.
Colorless:Arcbound Crusher, because of the good times we've had.
Multi:Azorius First-Wing, or Dragon Broodmother.

Question: Which is your favorite set, judged purely on flavor?

Ravnica hands down. Although, Innistrad block is, I'm happy to say, looking to give it a run for its money.

I'm liking Innistrad more and more--it's doing great things with tribal, which is one of my loves in Magic. I do feel like white and black are overpowered in respect to the other colors--which makes sense as to the flavor, but still affects the balance for me.

Fav red - Definately Lightning Bolt, the single best creature removal card in history!
Blue - Mana Leak, it's just so much fun to play with.
White - Doomed Traveler, he just never dies.
Green - Llanowar Elves, one of the most awesome ramp cards ever.
Black - Dark Ritual, so great for getting quick combos out or just plain old lightning fast ramp.
Colourless - Solemn Simulacrum, one of the most versatile cards ever printed.

Q. What are your favorite cards out all the colours and colourless cards?

As for my question....i'm investing in these 2 modern decks. Here's the links. Could you please throw any suggestions and let me know. I don't wanna invest in the money for the decks if it's something im gonna take apart for not being strong enough. And i'm at a stump with them.

Some people might point to when I posted my second deck on this site. It's not even my best deck, but for whatever reason, everyone loved it, and everyone wanted to get advice from "the dude with the 600 likes deck"

Personally, while I understand that's probably a part of it, I like to think that it's a product of my willingness to help people, and give my honest opinion. I am positive I haven't gotten to every deck people have asked me to check out...hell, I have hardly started on the requests from this deck! However people always appreciate help, and I like to think my popularity is a reflection of that.

Everyone is on my good side! Some people manage to get on my BAD side, that the thing. Some are lucky enough to get on my very good side as well. If you want to know how to avoid my bad side, here's the basic thing. To quote one of my favorite teachers growing up, "There are questions, and there are statements."

What he meant was there is a huge difference between, "I need advice" and "I've made this new deck that works pretty well, but I'm having issues with _________. I think it could be _________ or maybe _______, but I'd like your help with a second opinion. Could you tell me what I might be missing?"

For example, the post above this, I am definitely not going to respond to.

Hey surewhynot, I've been a big fan of yours ever since about Christmas of 2010.. I've never had the time to make myself an account but the first thing I did was follow you!

For my favourite cards:
- Blue: Jace, the Wallet-Fucker
- Green: Taunting Elf
- Red: Lightning Bolt
- Black / White: Seek
- Land: Library of Alexandria

Question -- If you could recommend something for me to do for people to recognize my decks, what would it be?

If you could possibly check out my first deck on the site and the future ones to come, I would be absolutely flattered..
Here it is: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=294812

Hi ya! I like many of your ideas, and have taken many ideas from your decks in to my more expensive decks, as im a casual player and not too good with expensive cards. I was impressed when I read that you would like Tommi Hovi's deck. Im from Finland and Hovi is like our national mtg hero, because hes the only one that has won the nationals in our country.

So, my fav cards; Black - Royal assasin (I dont play black at all, and dont like almost any of its cards)
White - Akroma, The angel of wrath or Preeminent Captain (My fav deck is my soldiers)
Red - Reverberate (I dont know why, but its in every red deck I make)
Blue - Time Stop (Dunno why so simple card, just so much fun)
Green - Troll Ascetic (My first card that I loved, and everyone else hated, played it in every deck at my starting days)
Multi - Soulquake (fun fun fun fun fun)
Artifact - Loxodon Warhammer (Friends just keep on hating =D)

My question: Give me a deck idea, something simply crazy/odd. Something that shouldnt work, or no one would think of. A combo to build around, or tribal, or just simply some good ability/synergy.

Blue: Chronozoa, my favourite card. I continue to make a lot of decks with it.
Green: Vigor. That's just awesome.
Red: Pyromancer Ascension. This card screams build me a deck!
Black: Nether Traitor. I don't know why, I just like the reanimation effect I think.
White: Windborn Muse. Multyplayer is much more safe to play with her at your side :D

Colorless: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. What's not to love? 15/15 flying time walking annihilating, nearly invincible win conditions are like, totally balanced and cool. (seriously, I love this guy despite how wtfridiculous he may be)

White: Stoneforge Mystic. She's just, well, groundbreaking. The consistency she provides to decks is almost too perfect, hence why she's banned in nearly everything.

Blue: Spellstutter Sprite. She's just an incredible counterspell if utilized properly.

Green: This one is hard.... Its a toss-up between Wellwisher and Obstinate Baloth. In my mono-green Eldrazi deck, nothing was more satisfying than sideboarding in 3 of these, and being able to draw/green sun 4 of them into play nearly 100% against lolreddeckwins. :D

Red: I hate red, plain and simple. If I had to choose, well, I couldn't. I hate everything red has ever been and ever will be. Maybe Scrambleverse? Namely because its way too complex of a card for any red deck user to wrap their minds around, even if it is impractical. lol

Black: Another insanely tough choice... Probably Shephard of Rot. Again, in my "TRIBAL ONRY" days, I think my mono-black Zombie suicide deck was my favorite, and this guy is the reason.

Artifact: Is it unfair of me to name a colorless card and an artifact? :x (Sword of Feast and Famine. 'nuff said... can you tell I'm a Stoneblade player yet? lol)

QUESTION: You seem to be a rather respected deck builder on this site... What are your thoughts on, or how would you approach the creation of a control deck in Modern?

QUESTION: Do you think the banning list in Modern makes any sense, in contrast to some of the things not banned(Polymorph, Emrakul, Splinter Twin)?

Again, I'm not Sure, but things have gone so long without answers, and I'm bored with nothing better to do right now.

I personally am against a LOT of the cards on the banned list for modern, but there are reasons for a lot of it. In light of what I've seen of the format, more so from play experience than my designs, I think it would make more sense at this point to just lift a few bans than ban more power cards.
I never thought there was reason to ban Punishing Fire, GSZ, or that they banned both Ponder AND Preordain. It made no sense, and I think they know they went overboard with it. Perhaps overcompensating for the original banned list.
I personally think the banned list could use some trimming, or refining at least, and one of the few cards I'd suggest going forwards to ban right now is Spinter Twin.

Yeah, I really apologize to those I haven't gotten back to, but I've been very busy lately and quite frankly, every time I look at the number of questions in here, I just about crap my pants.

http://www.myfacewhen.com/163/

That about sums it up^

And WnB just about got it. The ban list in Modern is flat out idiotic, and whether WotC has realized this or not, it's their original asinine decisions that have solidified my choice to not give two craps about the format. Mostly what pisses me off though, is the fact that after banning Mental Misstep in modern, they decided it "only made sense" to ban it in damn near everything else. I'll be the first to tell you, Misstep is NOT THAT GOOD. It's a sideboard card, almost every time. One thing it DID do, however, was it kept Storm in check...at least to an extent. Now that it's gone, ask anyone what deck is wrecking Legacy (again, I might add), and you'll get similar answers.

I standby my thoughts of the era when I had Mystical Tutor; Reanimator kicks storm in the balls. Repeatedly. I've even been racing TES with Dredge nowadays man, it might be time to find a new target for the hate finally. Early on I hated storm because I didn't know how to stop it, but after playing it as much as I have from both sides of the table, I find Maverick to be more obnoxious.

Well I started playing back in the 4th Edition days and quit when Visions came out. I have recently started back up just shortly after Innistrad hit the shelves and have been sucked back in. I MISSED ALOT OF SHIT. So as to my favourites, I'm disregarding the new and taking it back to the old school flavor that first got me started.

Red - Lightning Bolt
White - Tundra Wolves
Black - Mind Twist
Blue - Counterspell (original art)
Green - Birds of Paradise / Channel

Land - Strip Mine
Multi-colour - Dakkon Blackblade

Red: Galvanic Blast (mostly because when i had a deck with 3 in it, i would win just by using all 3 at once XP)

Blue: honestly this is hard for me cause im big on using blue, but if i really had to choose i might say stormtide leviathan because thats the first "blue" card i got that i used as a staple in my deck haha

Green: ive never made a green deck until i made a random mana rampage/sphinx deck :P....but i say Giant Growth!

White: Puresteel Paladin (hes big in a few of my decks)

Black: Painful Quandry (its just fun..especially when you get 2 out hehe)

Artifact: Etched Champion...his artwork rocks and his ability is fun lol

umm so i was wondering if you would check out a deck i made lol (the first is experimental) and then maybe look at the one im trying to use as my main (even though its mill and everyone says thats not too great >.< haha

Feel free to elaborate on my question to whatever extent you're okay with doing. If you had a deck that had a "finishing combo" in it with Life's Finale followed by a Grimoire of the Dead activation, what would be a few other cards you'd choose to be in it lower on the mana curve (< 6)? (standard or not). I'm not asking you to build a deck for me don't worry haha. Inspiration is all. :) I was kind of going black and green with my ideas so far.

Can a decent legal 60 card deck be built that is only instants and sorceries (no land or creatures)?

Your hand opening hand is 1 dark ritual, 1 entomb, 1 thoughtseize, 1 reanimate and 3 swamp?
What creature would you entomb after successfully thoughtseizeng your opponent?

Again, I'm going to take over any questions on here that amuse me.

I'd probably go with Jin Gitaxias if they didn't look like they would be able to deal with it in time, Iona if it was mono-coloured, or Empiryal Archangel, or Sphinx of the Steel Wind if it's GWx. This is all depending on what they have in hand post Thoughtseize, it's really a judgement call you have to have a bit more infor to make.
