Deck Description

This deck is a mono-black spirit tribal focused on using Seizan's ability to its fullest.

This deck is also a means to say happy birthday to Lanaeus, who's friend went to great lengths to get this birthday surprise to work.

This deck is ALSO a completion of a challenge I accepted from WnB back on my Seizan EDH.

*****If it's not too much to ask, I'd like to request everyone post a quick "happy birthday" wish along with any other comments you may have*****

Deck discussion for Happy Birthday Lanaeus/Challenge Accepted

happy birthday, also nice deck im guessing that fetch lands (for bloodghast) were not included because of the life loss you already have from the seizan. additionally i can see 4x hymn to tourach being good also their seems to be a lack of removal (edicts, go for the throat, and tons more) scroll of griselbrand seems pretty week here also (they could be switched for the hymn's) also consume the meek could work nicely here. it will buy you time to win via underworld dreams or seizan and will provide away to put your zubera's in the graveyard and then activate the theif's soulshift. also it is not a loss if you kill a bloodghast with one. tormented soul also seems kind of week sure it pings in for one every turn which is kind of nice but it seems very inafficant it would be nice if you had a card like jitte (to fit in with the kamigawa theme) but it just dosnt seem to strong in this matchup besides being a spirit. overall it is a very cool deck though and if you have the chance please take a look at my r/g legacy wildfire deck it seems to have potential as a rouge deck for legacy and i would love feedback http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=343808 ty :)

I kept out things like hymn and verdant catacombs to keep this thing more budget friendly. The scroll has greatly impressed me to be honest. As for tormented soul, you need to understand that a Seizan deck puts everyone on a clock...and to win, you need to make sure that your opponent's clock goes faster than yours. Even doing 1 damage a turn puts enormous pressure on the opponent.

yah thats what i was thinking you were going for with the tormented soul, i was just thinking about this deck and that card ebony owl netsuke i think its called could be a good option in this deck it would be a potential finisher in this deck though it could be bad vs aggro match ups though. anyway if you have a chance check the link above

Happy birthday man, and have you thought about adding persecute maybe? always a fan of that card when it comes to any slight discarding theme to a deck. Looks like a fun deck to play tho

Well with Infernal Kirin, I have something sort of like a 'persecute' that is a continuous threat...for the same mana!

Thanks for commenting =]

Happy birthday!!!!!

Well as soon as I read Thief of Hope "Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, target opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life" I immediately thought wow another Blood Artist! Then I thougtht what's my favorite spirit to abuse with Blood Artist that is non-alcoholic? Why Nether Traitor of course!

Phyrexian Altar + Nether Traitor + Blood Artist or Thief of Hope = Infinite damage to opponent + Infinite life gain for you.

Also Diabolic Intent is a useful card is these types of decks.

Have fun abusing spirits.

I'm not a huge fan of Scroll of Griselbrand in this deck either. I can see Psychosis Crawler being brutal in this deck, however. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LANAEUS :D

The Scroll has been great for me to be honest. You just set it down, and any time you need a little extra punch, pop it and the opponent loses a card. At its worst it's a discard you can force on your opponent at a moment's notice. However, it can also be a healthy blast of 5-7 damage at a moment's notice. Crawler would be nasty is here, and I'm almost positive I have it in my Seizan EDH, but in here there's no room =/

Happy birthday Lanaeus whoever you are!

I've had an interesting time in this stint of inactivity, I am now the slightly proud owner of a hat that says cool story bro on it. I have been playing Skyrim, and it is more addictive than magic. I swear I will do something on here again.

Skyrim really is addicting. I'll tell you one thing, I thought WotC was headed in the right direction with the whole innistrad block, both flavor and balance-wise (for the most part). Then I saw the spoilers for M13 and I sighed. Sublime Angel with Tarland, a few controlly spells, and the Pike...that'll be standard for a while -_-

Ah well, more reason to play Legacy =P

Hopefully RTR will redeem them again. I swear there are two separate dev teams. One for core sets (chock full of bullshit/boring mythics to make money off if standard kiddies) and a team for the "story" sets (with good flavor and balance to keep us old geezers happy)

I still say you could have fun exploring the inner workings of EDH...plus finally make that Braids EDH =]

I spawned a hundred Stormcloaks, a hundred from the Imperial Legion, and summoned Alduin and Paarthurnax. I love having it on PC so much.
The Innistrad block is oozing with flavor, but I once more bring up the broken as hell favourite; Faithless Looting. It took a balanced block, and made every Dredge player do a double take.
M13 I haven't had time to pay much attention, but my friend who does says about the same as you :|

Eternal formats are amazing. No one has yet been able to give me a valid argument against them.

I'm actually waiting for RTR to flop, because it's too good to be true. Even with different dev teams, it's still the same QA team right now... I think only thing in the shops with people that I'm waiting for is a mod engine game some people I know are working on, I have things, things that make big explosions XD

They won't let me make a Braids EDH, even if every other player said it was okay, my group would refuse to play it. They already hate my field control decks in every other format, I don't need to add EDH just yet.

I know you probably don't care for the ponies, but that's the best reaction I can find.

Are there any spoilers for RTR yet? Nice deck btw surewhynot, but I still think Scroll of Griselbrand could be swapped for something a bit better. Hymn would work, and they are only a buck a piece. Other than that, it looks great.

Could you give me some advice on this Smokestack control deck I'm building? Thanks man, really enjoy your decks.

This deck needs a way to deal with creatures, +4 Plagued Rusalka can do the trick... a way to sac zuberas, exploit the bloodghast land fall or simply sac Seizan if you are about to die (btw I believe the scroll of griselbrand is cool too... but just not for this deck)
check my modern discard deck, it might give some ideas :) http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=356138

I kept a lot of things out of this to keep the budget down, since this guy's buddy is going to buy the deck for him.

I just posted the version of this deck that I currently use, unchanged for budget reasons =]
