Deck discussion for The Dude Abides

This is a lot like what I was expecting, but with Dismember in place of PtE, and Wildwood instead of a second Canopy. I like it a lot, but it sadly solidifies my choice to switch to Over-Extended :/

Thanks guys. It annoys me that the inspiration for this deck wasn't a positive inspiration at all...In fact I disliked making this deck =/

I designed it for a few of my friends to use in tourneys, something I haven't done in years because of the unwanted attention I got last time, because I want to show how unbalanced Modern has become. Quite honestly, I'd love to see this deck get banned down to the landbase...

Anyway, hopefully I'll enjoy building my next deck...which will either be another tribal (thinking insects or elementals) or the Oona EDH.

Oona EDH is usually pretty fun to play, but it's usually a headache to build.

Why are there 3 Harrow? I mean, there are ONLY 3 basics. I think Farseek is much better.

You make a good point dag. When I first made this it ran 5 basics, but now with 3 I should use something else...and Farseek actually sounds perfect =]

how is farseek better than rampant growth...

Because Farseek specifies the land types instead of saying "basic land", which was the same problem that Harrow had.

helo again shurewhynot. i've been taking a break from the vault, and as i'm getting back in the swing of it i decided to take a look at your newest concoction.
this deck definately looks good. it's got quite a bold land base, however -- and considdering your inclusion of bob and dismember, i kinda want to suggest death's shadow......
and maybe i just haven't played the deck, but i feel like noble hierarch might be of more use than farseek..... if just seams like exalted on top of a mana dork is more efficient. but that's your call, maybe the landbase is a little less stable than it apears.
other than that, i dont know what else to say. looks just about dandy. and it's given me two new ideas......

Farseek and Horrow are pumping the Steppe Linx as well, which is why he has land ramp over the mana dorks

ah. i didn't catch that. good call.
however, in my opinion i still think noble would be better -- exalted is half the boost lynx would get, and it's a one drop mana exel. also, it's good on it's own, and almost never a dead draw -- but farseek is not too great w/out lynx, considering this deck doesn't need much rampant growth. but i see your point. i guess it kinda comes too preference.

I know that the Hierarch is also great, but Farseek does fix the mana better. Still multiple Hierarchs are bomb.

If I were to run BluZoo, then I'd probably choose Hierarch, as it has more of that Exalted theme behind it (Essentially a mix of Zoo's burn with the classic Bant Conscription deck). That said, I think the Dark Zoo variant of the 4C Zoo designs is superior, so I went with Farseek (technically Harrow when I ran 5 basic, then FS when I dropped to 3) since it's versatility and boosting capabilities are more desirable for this version.

I LOVE this mana curve. It's like number sex!

14 x 2 = 28
7 x 4 = 28

This deck looks pretty legit, though running a zoo like this, vengevine and Ranger of Eos would love this deck (being able to search for 1 drops like gobby guide, steppe lynx, etc...)

Pretty much the only overpowered part of this deck, is the relatively low mana curve required, so no single card here (other than goyf... that guy is nuts) is really overpowered or will win a game on it's own. In fact, once the metagame solidifies in Modern, I think that control and combo will have more cards to play with by far than Zoo or other aggro forms.

In fact, Splinter Twin is currently a lot more scary to me than this deck, since at least I can do something about this strategy (day of judgment, lightmine field, Ghostly Prison, etc.) whereas with stupid oops-i-win combos (splinter twin) I'm not really playing against them as a player, but instead am just racing them to see if I can deal 20 damage before they insta-kill me.

am i wrong or do you have like 10 cards that serach for basic lands and only 3 basic lands?

0

I indeed only have 3 basic lands, but the other cards don't search for basic lands, they search for the specific land names like mountain, swamp, etc.

Take out the Farseeks for more Fetches. This is obviously not a budget list so there is no reason not to run more fetches. Path to Exile > Dismember. Stirring Wildwood is not worth it. It wasn't even good in Standard, much less Modern. Thoughtseize should be mainboard.
