Deck discussion for Venser, the Unblockable

Don't Forget That whatever creature you equip the sword to you can't use his is abilities on it.

Just can't exile it, but it still can get unblockable because all of the creatures get it; it doesn't target.

Yeah, the unblockable effect is a blanket effect. Same way Wrath of God and Day of Judgment still kill a Black Knight...

Any who, I like this deck and since you always comment on mine (most of them anyway) I figured i'd look at this. There is a lot of control in a somewhat aggressive attack deck. Lots of card drawing potential too. I like it... plain and simple

Wow, thanks for all the comments. Edna and drumhead got it right... The blanket effect is great! Most of it is milling, but Thada exiles artifacts which is way more interesting in the current standard environment.
Thrummingbird's just give Venser back any loyalty he's used. Very fun!

I'm surprised this deck hasn't gotten more likes. I play tested this bad boy last night and kicked some serious ass with it...
Making Thrummingbird Unblockable nullifies the fact you just use -1 on Venser and if you have two out you're gaining even more loyalty counters for him. I ran the deck with two clones instead of Sun Titan to get more Thrummingbird's or maybe even copy an opponents Skithiryx ;-) and then once Venser got up high enough i got his emblem and it was all down hill for opponent from there.
This deck is lots of fun! Great job!

This is a sweet deck, I "built" it using proxies for the cards I lack and tested it against my main tournament deck... I got my ass handed to me on a gilded platter in 4 games, lost 2, and won only 2! This is after sideboarding against your deck too!
I would definitely put in some more prolifferation, either in the form of contingent clasp/engine or Steady progress. I also agree about replacing sun titian with clone, lets you use ur sun Titan elsewhere and clone helps the deck more IMO. Not sure why the silcaw is on this deck, the odds of getting three artifacts are slim in a deck with six. Mox opal is a great card, but the same applies. I would replace Mox with Vesuva and Silcraw with a proliferate card

I'd love to cram more proliferation in, but the ratchet bomb provides removal and the Sword of Body and Mind on an Unblockable creature is pretty amazing...

Ya, that is a sweet combo. My friend has a deck based around mill+ Bloodcheif Ascension.
Sword of B & M on a phantom warrior is a MAJOR pain under normal.circumstances, with the Bloodchief it's an auto win (Bloodchief deals 2 damage to an opponent each time a card enters their graveyard... Tomb Scour deals 10, Sword of B&M deals 20, Silcraw deals 6.... Epic deck (check my profile if ur interested, I'm posting it soon)

While wall of Omens is a good card, you should be getting plenty of card advantage from your unblocked Scroll Thief and you can add some more artifacts, otherwise raggedjoe is right, the Metalcraft aspect falls very short in this deck. It's an awesome idea, just need a few more artifacts in it to utiliza the metalcraft aspect of it.

Absolutely true... I will fix that now... Contagion Clasp anyone? Mwahahahaha, it solves artifact and proliferate problem!

It is a good deck, but I suggest running oblivion Ring instead of Journey to Nowhere

I would definitely run Oblivion Ring if it was in standard.

I like it. :)

since you are doin some proliferating and you have some hefty mana cost spells you might wanna consider Everflowing Chalice.

I'm a big Vensor fan though and like this deck.

Cool deck, very themed. I dig how every creature gets something cool out of direct attacks. :) I just made a themed deck, wanna check it out?

Also, just a tip: Maybe try throwing some swords in there, like, ones that are different from body and mind. I think if you worked a bit on the CA that is lacking in this deck, (though fixed with scroll thief,) you could seriouly get some work out of SoW&P, and even without more CA, SoF&F is wicked here. And the pro colors always helps to get unblockable on something. :)

On the other hand, infect + unblockable is also a wicked combination, as infect basically already means that you're already putting them at 10 life, and as infect generally gets weak late game, b/c their creatures are strong enough to deal with your weak infect guys, but now you don't have to worry about them getting weaker later on. :)

I did a Venser deck myself though I only have two Venser's and I threw in his buddy from New Phyrexia just because.

It's not standard but I could move a few cards around and make it that way if I wanted to, but I don't do tourneys much so there it is.

Everyone uses Venser's first and third abilities (or tries to), but I don't think I've ever actually seen his second one used. Looking at your build, this is a crazy strong use of it, too! Very nice, I definitely approve. :D

So, in other words, you want him to turn it into a Caw variation. :P

This gave me a an idea for an infect deck...I run Chained Throatseeker, Lost Leonin, and Blighted Agent, use a few white buffs, throw Venser in as a sweetener and a way to make the Throatseekers and Leonins unblockable, some control to keep opponents at bay (wish I had more mana leak), then rush up with either unblockable, flying, buffed creatures for a fourth or fifth turn win.

This deck also made me want to make a white blue infect which uses venser's second ability. I have put up a draft version of it on this site, but it will need some tweeks.

Like the venser variant! I'm a big venser fan myself, but prefer dirty tactics to help things get thru. Check out my link and let me know what you think :) I'm trying to make mine tournament playable.
