Deck Description

Back in the day this almost got me back into standard. For those who do not remember the oh so sweet games reminiscent of Legacy Pox with a Nether Void on the field; The point boils down to talking to Grislbrand via Dark Petition to get Seasons Past. That is so long as there isn't an Elk factory or the leukemia deserving, already bald walker on the battlefield.

The usual game involves answering a couple of our opponent's threats, using breathing room to either draw ourselves cards or discard those that our opponents are holding and once turns 4 and 5 roll around using Dark Petition to get whatever it is that we need.

How to Play

Now, we are running 28 cards that satisfy the Spell Mastery clause of Dark Petition, thus Demonic Tutoring the perfect answer on turn 5 is more common than most would anticipate. This does give the deck a significant push, not to mention the fact that there really isn't much our opponents can do to interact with us, outside of counterspells and hand disruption. The latter of which is something we can easily recover from with time.

Like most decks with an unreasonably efficient top end, we too mainly just need to survive the early game and then pray to Buddha that our relevant cards do not get counterspelled. Unlike most top-heavy decks, our top consists of shoveling all the cheap stuff back from the graveyard.

Whatever direction the game takes, so long as you are doing fine it will eventually boil down to casting Seasons Past to get:

For 0: A field of ruin to thin the deck.
For 1: A Thoughtseize or Fatal Push to spend leftover mana and ensure that we can do this all over again next turn.
For 2: Literally anything. Lifegain? We got you! Removal? Ha, kill anything! Want to draw cards? Sign here!
For 3: LITERALLY ANYTHING! (including win conditions)
For 4: Boardclears, unconditional removal, or planeswalker-like legends.
For 5: Dark Petition to do it all over again in the near future.
For 6: Ideally Nissa's Renewal to never die and never draw something that isn't gas.

And no deck in the format can fight this for long.
