A Sphere Pushes Equally

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Creatures (7)

Instants (4)

Artifacts (4)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

"A sphere pushes equally in all directions."
Sphere of Resistance, Flavor Text

But that statement isn't really true. I intend for the Sphere to push much harder against my opponent.

*********************************************************************************

A deck designed to benefit from the cards:
Sphere or Resistance and Thorn of Amethyst.

Idea is to run massive amounts of draw spells and use mana ramp to outpace my opponent as the Sphere and Amethyst slows him down.

The Thorn of Amethyst and Sphere of Resistance stack.
Example: 3 Thorn of Amethyst in play = noncreature spells cost 3 more mana to cast.
Example: 3 Sphere of Resistance in play = all spells cost 3 more to cast.

1 More Example:
2 Thorns in play and 2 Spheres in play = All spells cost 2 more to cast and all noncreature spells cost 4 more, for each card, to cast. ONE Counterspell from your opponent is going to cost him 6 mana to play!!!! ONE Naturalize is also going to cost him 6 mana to play. Ouch.

*********************************************************************************

34 Creatures in the deck. For a reason. Thorn of Amethyst affects noncreature spells, not creature spells. With so many creatures, Thorn of Amethyst hurts my opponent much more than it hurts me.

20 Creatures grant me mana ramp. That way, Sphere of Resistance/Thorn of Amethyst effects me very little. I will have the extra mana to pay for my spells, and my opponent will not. They will be stalled. I will not.

9 Creatures that draw/fetch me cards. I will never topdeck. Not only will I punish my opponents for playing spells (via Sphere of Resistance/Thorn of Amethyst) but I will also punish them by drawing cards every time they play spells against me. And so many draw spells...If I don't get off to a good start...they will help ensure I eventually draw into Spheres/Amethysts.

*********************************************************************************

How to Play

How to Win: Play as many Spheres of Resistance and Thorn of Amethyst as fast as you can. While they slow down your opponent, you mana ramp and draw into victory.

*********************************************************************************

Sorta of what I am looking for:

First Turn: Play Mana Ramp
Second Turn: Play Sphere of Resistance/Thorn of Amethyst.

Continue to play more and more Spheres of Resistance/Thorn of Amethyst.
They keep stacking, spells keep getting more and more expensive to cast...and unless your opponent is running Artifact Removal or Mana Ramp...he is in for a long day.

Deck discussion for A Sphere Pushes Equally

I think this has a lot of potential, need to play test it...see what needs to stay and what needs to go.
I think the deck is going to be slow to build up to being able to attack...but I figure it will be okay because my opponent will be even slower then I will be...considering Sphere of Resistance/Thorn of Amethyst will slow him down more than it will me.

Tell me what you guys think!

This deck looks pretty funny,I might try to put plow under in it, but it would cost a lot, also tangle wire would be very annoying. :)

Gotta agree with one thing:
Your opponent is in for a long day.

Looks damn annoying. GLORIOUS. +1 like.

Yeah. Not that it will ever happen, but, Northy, if you can get out 4 Sphere of Resistances and 4 Thorn of Amethyst in play:

Opponent's noncreature spells will cost them 8 mana extra!
That is 9 mana for 1 Lightning Bolt.
Or 10 mana for 1 Counterspell.
Or 5 mana for 1 Llanowar Elf.

Even 1 Sphere and 1 Thorn in play will slow down the game greatly!
You are talking about your opponent having to pay 3 mana for 1 Lightning Bolt and 4 mana for 1 single Counterspell.

Lodestone Golem would be evil in this : )

Or better, friend. Do the reverse.

Make a Sphere of Resistance/Lodestone Golem deck with a lot of Artifacts.
Take out all of the green creatures and Thorn of Amethyst.

Sounds interesting.

Yeah that be sweet too. Defense Grid might help to since your not casting on their turns anyway.

I did think about Defense Grid!
I was afraid, that I would want to play 1) Thorn of Amethyst 2) Sphere of Resistance 3) Defense Grid.
And that would mean Defense Grid would end up costing me 4 mana. Which isn't really too bad. Just felt that trying to run 4 Thorns and 4 Spheres would end up being more efficient.

I will Sideboard it though, thanks for the suggestion.

Do you like the idea of the deck? At least?
Stall your opponent while you mana ramp pass Sphere/Thorn.

It would end up costing me a hellva amount of mana.
He cost 8 mana.
If, by the time I cast him, I have 2 Sphere of Resistance in play...he will end up costing me 10 mana.
However, I put him in my Sideboard for consideration. Thanks!

I would say wall of blossoms as even without it you still have a lot of draw potential, as well as roots for defense. or perhaps just 2 walls of blossoms.

Funny, yet competative! Draw bunch of cards & hold back the opponent(& yourself a little as well)... ...I like Defense Grid in the sideboard...

Can you rapidly cast your spells in this deck though?? I wonder about that...

Please, check my Modern USA control deck & tell me your opinion & how you would improove it!.. ...if you've got the time...

Definitely a +1 Jessie. This is definitely another of your decks that I'll have to proxy (or make, since it's sorta budget). Looks like you can slow them down to a crawl while you just poke them to death with 1/1 elves HAHAHAHHA

1

Forgot to add. What do you think about Wild Growth for more mana ramp? Because if you tap a forest to get 2 mana, you can use your arbor elf to untap it and tap it again to get a total of 4 mana...

0
Posted 10 September 2014 at 05:56

I wanted to try and put as many creatures in the deck as possible.
I was afraid if I got 2 or 3 Thorns/Spheres in play...stuff like Wild Growth might end up costing too much mana.
But it is a really good idea. :)

Mind checking out this one too, telung?

* Obvious addition would be Dryad Arbor - it's for free no matter how many Spheres you have. (replaces Forests)

* I can see why you want card draw, however, I am not sure if the ones you picked are the best choice for this. The Storyteller is a nice card and you run mostly creatures, okay, but your aim is to slow down the opponent and ideally keep him from casting at all. You won't draw many cards from this ... and the Sage is too expensive for a deck that runs Sphere of Resistance!

* The other problem would be if the opponent manages to get some problematic creatures into play. Since you' mostly have a horde of 1/1s, anything that survives a block but kills one of yours will be a problem. The solution to both this and the previous problem: Ohran Viper! This deck begs for 4 of them in the place of some of the Sages and Storytellers.

* I would prefer Eternal Witness over Noxious Revival. Of course, the casting cost matters a lot in this deck, but card advantage as well. Considering that Amethyst Thorn doesn't affect the Witness and that the card you will most likely want to get back is a destroyed Sphere of Resistance, I think the difference in casting cost isn't a big disadvantage. But you'll get the card immediatedly and a warm body on top of it. Even if you don't have the mana to play the retrieved spell after casting the Witness you still are about to draw a fresh card next turn.

* I guess, if you had a Gaea's Cradle, it would be in, but wanted to mention it anyway. In the same line of thought consider Priest of Titania. If you had these cards I would not have complained about the Sage, BTW.

I would make an alternate of this deck using Affinity and Mycosynth Golem. Why make your own spells more expensive, when you can make yours cheaper and your opponents more.

Yep, with my wife working two jobs and me going to online college...and having to babysit all day EVERY day, it is hard for me to keep up with that promise...but I do try. I figure if someone puts up the effort to look at my decks...they deserve the respect.

Here I am, a 10 month old girl and a 2 year old boy, watching them as they play/watch cartoons...I will tell you this, it is damn hard to concentrate on College Work while making sure they are okay/keeping the house clean/keeping them changed and clean/cooking...blah blah blah.

Speaking of College, I need to get back to work!

Good luck with all of that. I have a 6-month old myself and find time to comment on all these awesome decks of yours at work. About the only place where i can get some time to myself. :) But I wouldn't have it any other way.

My last 7 years of work...working in Air Conditioning (5 years) putting in units in people's ceilings and attics PLUS working at Simmons Mattress Company (2 years) carrying around 150 pound beds all day...i just got ran down.

Realized a life time of 100+ degree attics, spiders/snakes/dust/dirt....and carrying around so much weight, as fast as I could (with factory work it is all push to get product out asap...not about the quality, but the number of pieces produced)...i was just killing myself for poor pay.

You are very fortunate to have such a nice job!

Hello again, last week I was at channel fireball and got exposed to "hate bears", a.k.a. death and taxes, which is a modern deck format that reminds me of this deck. It runs Thalia, as Phyrexian Possum suggested earlier, leonin arbiter (so they blow up your mana base with ghost quarter and tectonic edge), just to name a few. Yes, hate bears is a modern deck and this is legacy/vintage, but I just wanted to let you know what else is currently "out there" so to speak. Keep up the good work posting decks! =)
