Deck discussion for Mono Black Control v2

Not mono black...
But looks fun to play. Human frailty may be a decent sideboard option for those pesky human decks.
I also made a control deck, I may add duress... Check it out and maybe help me out a little?

Even though it splashes red, the deck itself is considered mono black and sure I'll check out your deck :)

Looks very solid +1 , but I'd take out that awful Contaminated Ground from the main deck.

Contaminated Ground is experimental til I can find something else to replace them with in Theros.

take it out for more corrupts, creature kill, or mainboard lifebane zombie.... very worth mainboarding considering how much of either white and/or green people are playing

here is a link to my mono black ive been tweaking for a week or so, been working out surprisingly well

Hm, not sure about the shadowborn demon...

Shadowborn Demon is mostly their for experimenting purposes. So far he has been performing well. He is sideboard out against the control Esper Decks.

My only fear with him is that he was built for Shadowborn Apostle. Putting 6 good creatures in the grave just to play him seems a waste.

You dont have to put six. You can sac for example Messenger and with the undying trigger he comes back with a +1+1 counter and you lose 2 life, and you can swing in the air for 5. And if you don't feel like sac anything you can always sac himself. And even though him and shadowborn apostle go hand in hand does not mean you have to run them. Junk Rites is right now testing out Shadowborn demon in their builds and it plays out nicely.

"A deck that is extremely popular amongst seasoned players."
It's very rare to see a tournament in which pro players run mono-black
In fact the whole point of this Ravanica block is to encourage people to run duo decks

"The whole point of mono black control is to try to counter all the top meta decks by controlling everything while still winning through a bomb on the field."
I don't think this deck will perform very well vs the current meta

If you want a true monoblack take out the red and add any of the Lilianas
Get a full set of Desecration demons/Vampire Nighthawks/Doom Blades too

Please do not make up things like this to make your deck seem more impressive than it actually is

And, if you're including Innistrad block, where is the bomb? (aka, griselbrand)
Lili DR helps nightmare a ton

When I said "seasoned players" i was leaning more to those that have been playing magic longer than those that started at the beginning at the innistrad block. Back in the Scars Block, mono black was a popular deck and with the introduction of M14 which included cards like Nightmare and Corrupt and especially doom blade, mono black has the potential to make a strong impact.

Mono black does contained tons of answers to the current meta. At the moment Jund Midrange probably has the best chance against mono black due to the fact on how fast it can go and also how much control they mainboard. Against Sphinix's decks we main board duress already and we contain a sideboard of Slaughter Games, Rakdos's Return, Underworld Connections, and even Pithining Needle. Against aggro we already main board 6 three drops that stand up pretty well against aggro. 2 mutilates, curse of death's hold and tons of spot removal as well. Against the Aristocrats we have pretty much the same response as well except we probably would put in Lifebane Zombie against the Junk Version. And even though we splash red in their, the deck is considered mono black. If you want a reference than I would look up the article Conley Woods wrote on his mono black deck he ran back in the Pro Tour Gatecrash where he got top 16. http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=11033

And I wasn't making things up. This is based on observations, research, and experience, as well as personal opinions.

And, if you're including Innistrad block, where is the bomb? (aka, griselbrand)
Lili DR helps nightmare a ton

While I admit Griselbrand is a huge card to play, I currently due have a playset at my disposal and I also focused on having the deck to survive post rotation when Innistrad rotates out. In the Theros block information spoiler, the designers as already spoiled that they are focusing more on a mono color approach oppose to the return to ravinca block where they focused on duo colors to represent the guilds.

Once again this all my personal opinions and i thank you for your response :)

Liliana of the veil?

I agree that Liliana of the Veil would fit in perfectly with this deck, but as HeyGuysWhasUp commented, I do not want to invest in them when they will be going out in October anyways. The deck runs smoothly without them and if I can get my hands on them for cheap than I will put them in the deck.

No no no. You want Lili DR (Liliana of the Dark Realms). The deck seems to revolve around having swamps. She gets you swamps (or blood crypts so you don't get stuck with a Rakdos card in your hand). With crypt ghast, she makes sure you play 2 mana every turn. And then her 2nd ability doubles nightmare's P/T

I never said I wouldn't run her. It justs right now, she doesn't have room for her nor do I possess any copies. If i had a playset of her I would replace Contaminated Grounds with her.
