Invisible Stalker...?

0

Nope. I know you're just suggesting things and I'm not trying to stifle your opinion, but take another look at the list. Invisible Stalker is no where near the quality of the other cards on the list.

0
Posted 10 February 2012 at 21:21

It's quite alright, to each his own, but how are you going to take Spellskite off? My other suggestions I can understand, but Spellskite AND Invisible Stalker need to be on this list for it to be legit. I would take either over about 40% of the cards on there (Lightning Helix? Really?)

0
Posted 12 February 2012 at 00:27

There is no way that Hide/Seek, Ratchet Bomb, Spellskite, Kiln Fiend, or Invisible Stalker should be on this list. None of those cards are playable in eternal formats, and a few aren't even that god in standard.

Jarret: Dragonstorm isn't a legacy deck, and Rite of flame is a 1-drop anyways...

I think Cobra and Image should be taken off the list. I mean, look at them next to the other cards on the list and they just look weak.

0
Posted 09 February 2012 at 22:01

What's that based on? Lotus Cobra was in Vintage World Championship decks and is showing up again in Gush-Delver Aggro, and Phantasmal Image is now standard mainboard tech in blue Legacy decks as anti-Progenitus tech, including *all* top-tier Legacy Merfolk decks in *every* SCG-sanctioned tournament in 2012.

0
Posted 13 February 2012 at 01:05

...not to mention that Legacy Merfolk was running two Spellskite to keep up with NO RUG until Mental Misstep got banned and NO RUG hit the dirt.

0
Posted 13 February 2012 at 01:56

I agree with raggedjoe, the list is becomming more of a every 2 drop ever printed list then the best 2 drops out there.

You should only put cards on there that rival the power level of Mana Drain, Survival of the Fittest, Demonic Tutor, Timewalk, Timevault, Umezawa's Jitte etc....

Recent cards that deserve to be in there in my opinion are Phantasmal Image, Stoneforge Mystic and Snapcaster Mage.

Also smallpox is at least as powerful and probably better then Sinkhole

0
Posted 10 February 2012 at 10:33

...but there's no way Smallpox fits your own "rival the power level of" criterion, is there? Sinkhole has seen some Eternal play, and Smallpox occasionally shows up in Legacy MBC, but they're not Jitte-powerful, you know?

0

Nope. Not nearly powerful enough. It may be the most used card on the vault but that doesn't make it worthy of being on this list.

0

Hmm.. don't think Phyrexian Revoker should be on here.
But you should definitely add Regrowth. Vexing Shusher is pretty damn good, Terminate could go on it, as well as Wild Mongrel.
And while Narcomoeba may have a 1 and U in the corner, it really says 0. ;)

0

I disagree about the Revokers; they shut down plainswalkers. I'll consider Regrowth and Vexing Shusher, Terminate will be on the list before Go or the Throat if I choose to add it, and Wild Mongrel will not be going on the list.

Name an eternal deck that plays either... I can think of one that plays a singleton Mongrel, sometimes...

0
Posted 12 February 2012 at 03:11

Sure. Legacy White Weenie runs 4x Squadron Hawk, and the Legacy Survival-Vengevine decks that ran Wild Mongrel were so good they got banned. If you're not allowing the latter to count in Wild Mongrel's favor, it's like asking "Name an eternal deck that plays Cabal Ritual" -- which appeared 4x in every Storm Tendrils deck until they banned Mystical Tutor -- or asking "Name a Vintage deck that plays Psychatog" -- which appeared as the kill card in a variety of Vintage UB decks before some bannings changed the metagame.

Granted, White Weenie is not currently a top tier deck. But there are at any time only four or five top-tier decks, so that metric is too restrictive.

In my opinion, you've missed the mark on a lot of these cards: Diabolic Edict, Exhume, Cabal Ritual, Brain Freeze, (probably) Burning Wish, (maybe) Infernal Tutor, Lightning Helix, Animate Dead, Lotus Cobra (and maybe others), ... should not be on the list. If a card is among 'the best . . . ever printed' it should either be format changing, or enable something that will make a huge impact.

You might question a few of the choices on my list but hear me out.
-Diabolic Edict is awesome, mostly due to nostalgia, I used to run it all the time in my old MBC decks. It's definitely not on the level of Channel, Time Vault, Balance (the Grand Daddies of "best") or Bob, Jitte, etc..
-Exhume and Animate Dead are components of reanimator, a major contender in legacy. But they are not "the best" without Entomb -- which is the heart and soul of the archetype and is /the/ card that enables the deck.
-Cabal Ritual .......?
-Brain Freeze is good, yes, but unless I'm missing something it's not that good. Glimpse is allowed to stay on the list only because it's ****ing huge and gives mill a competitive edge, but honestly.. I don't think anything mill could honestly be compared to the Grand Daddies.
-Burning Wish.. The wishes are cool, but unless this one in particular somehow carries burn.. it shouldn't be here.
-Infernal Tutor is only good because it is a cheap & legal tutor. I haven't seen Infernal Tutor do anything that impressive though, but perhaps it is good enough.. I dunno.. if it is, then Diabolic Intent should definitely be on here too (it's about 14.72x better than Infernal Tutor)
-Lightning Helix is very good. Very very good. But by itself (again) it's not Channel, Time Vault, Balance.. etc.
-Lotus Cobra can deliver a ridiculous jump curve, but this relies on having a stable mana curve to begin with (needing less of a jump) is only really good for modern. Eternal formats have a tendency to #Cheatyface# creatures into play when you're not looking.

I do think Stormcrow should be on the list just for the tollololols ;D

0
Posted 12 February 2012 at 13:31

Squire is so much better! But seriously,

-What you said is true about Edict not being in the same league as Channel, Time Vault, Balance, etc.. But when you look at some of the other cards, not many are. Those "grand daddies" are so ridiculously powerful that they occupy a different level of play than many of the other cards. Put simply, everything looks bad next to Time Vault. =D
-I don't follow you about Exhume and Animate Dead, aren't they the reason Entomb is such a good card?
-Eh, I can see what you mean. Cabal Ritual is gone. Same goes for Brain Freeze.
-Burning Wish: I dunno man, I'll consider it but in-game sideboarding sounds really cool to me. Maybe that's just personal opinion though, and not actually that useful.
-I believe Infernal Tutor is part of a Legacy deck with Lion's Eye Diamond, so I'll leave it up for someone who has experience playing with it to let me know how good it is. Added Diabolic Intent by the way.
-Again, this list would be very short if we compared it to the grand daddies alone.
-Totally understand now that you explain it like that. Cobra is out.

Thanks for the help!

A while after Mystical Tutor's banning, nearly every Legacy Storm deck making it to a top 8 has used four Burning Wish in the mainboard and {one Tendrils, one Empty the Warrens} in the sideboard. Red is now a standard auto-include in any Storm Tendrils deck. It's also the card that nearly singlehandedly makes Belcher playable. There's a reason it's restricted in Vintage.

Infernal Tutor is used by IGG-loop Storm decks (the same ones that run Burning Wish...).

Diabolic Intent is cool, but I'm not familiar with any Eternal format deck that uses it (and I compile tournament aggregates, so I see quite a lot of decklists...). Maybe someone's used it in MBC to scarf their own Dark Confidant? I can go check and report back tomorrow.

I know this isnt the best 2 drop but back in timespiral there was this 2/2 bear with flash (Ashcoat Bear). I thought it was great at the time. Not the greatest, or remotely close but a personal favorite.

So my list is mostly my favorites.
Ashcoat Bear
Gemhide Sliver (lol?)
Knight of the Holy Nimbus (auto regenerates, +flanking)
Keldon Marauders !! (A card I use in my legacy burn deck, 5 damage!)
Whirling Dervish
Stormscape Familiar
Hunted Horror (lol?)
Izzet Guildmage (copy spells was so fun...)
Plaxmanta (shroud? yes please)
Spellskite (redirect? yes please)
Phyrexian Revoker
Go for the throat
Livewire Lash
Nim Deathmantle
Rachet Bomb
Black Sun Zenith ( X is zero right? trollolol)
Puresteel Paladin (my brother came in first, multiple times with this card and swords... standard again)
Increasing Vengeance (has replaced reverberate in my legacy deck, though rare is the time the flashback is used)

all i can think of right now since I'm watching a movie in chinese and cant think straight anymore. >.<

I'm curious, why include Grand Abolisher? It's a neat effect, but Defense Grid is splashable and thus more likely to be used by the combo decks that need anti-control tech.

If the idea behind including Abolisher is to give various neat unique abilities some credit, you might consider Runed Halo, Declaration of Naught, and maybe even Journey to Nowhere. Halo is powerful enough to show up in eternal-format Enchantress decks, Declaration of Naught gets the nod for its brief use in mono-blue Divining Top-Counterbalance decks, and J2N gets the nod for being sideboard anti-Emrakul tech in Legacy Stax. I probably wouldn't add any of these to a list of my own devising, but I'd probably put Halo and Defense Grid in before Abolisher.

Anyhow, neat list, it was fun to read through! :)

This list is a bit overdone I think. As far as I'm concerned, there is approximately 1 true best 2-drop creature for each color.
Red = Goblin Piledriver (arguably the worst of these two-drops)
White = Stoneforge Mystic
Green = Tarmogoyf
Black = Bob (Dark Confidant)
Blue = Snapcaster Mage (although it's very seldom actually cast w/ only 2 mana and I can see the argument for Phantasmal Image, though it's still miles behind)

Other than this, Demonic Tutor, Time Walk, and Balance are really the only sorceries I can immediately see making it. Mana Drain, and Flash rock the instants. Survival, and Oath of Druids win enchantments (a few others might be ok.. like Bitterblossom). And artifacts goes to Time Vault with honorable mention to Jitte, Ravager, and Null Rod (though the Rod isn't really "powerful" but has a very useful effect that can be good against some decks).

I honestly can't see any other card on this list that even compares with these. I think almost all of them should go for this to be a true "best" list.*

*This does apply to Storm Crow as well, but only because it's soo powerful it needs it's very own list as it is far too broken and makes this discussion too easy.

I guess I did miss Golbin Recruiter which I think can be argued to be as good as Goblin Piledriver or better, so it seems fine on the list as well, though still generally much worse than the other 2-drops I've listed...
