Deck Description

I don't toot my own horn as it were very often but this deck works. It's fairly simple to figure out, get creatures into the graveyard and scavenge. J - rod is an all star in this deck ( I know I spelled his name wrong but that's what I call him), his presence provides a potential insta kill. IDK, I kinda like the deck the way it is but all comments are welcome. I am not so close minded that I will not accept suggestions.

Deck discussion for varolz

a few goodies that could make a home in here. Buried Alive, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Phyrexian Soul Gorger, Force of Savagery.

Personally I would add more protection for your creatures (lightning greaves, whispersilk cloak, mask of avacyn, darksteel plate, etc...) If something happens to your little troll this deck is going to be in trouble since you can't scavenge at instant speed.

I think you would be fine, but if someone bounces Varolz in response to you scavenging a creature, would the scavenge then fizzle? The creature would still be exiled since that is part of the activation of the ability. If this is the case then the shrouding/hexproofing would be extra important. But like I said, I think the rules say that the scavenge ability would still happen.

2 cents for you.

The Dreadnought is one I was looking at but it's too expensive for me $ wise right now. I just got a force o savagery so I should work it in here some kind of way. Buried Alive would be a solid choice in here just as long as I am not scavenging everything out of the grave. The soulgorger is good for a number of decks that I can think of including this one. I like the idea of adding more artifacts that protect varolz because the secondary function of the deck is to use glissa and artifacts over and over again. I was even considering adding the cluestone for these colors, it would help to be able to draw extra cards over and over.

Thought I knew what I was talking about when I spoke about buried alive earlier, I was thinking about living death. And buried alive would be good to get creatures I want varolz to snack on into the grave, entomb would be another.

I only returned to the game about a year ago and my first commander deck was a glissa deck. It was crazy fun.

I really like the creature selection in the deck. I think I would have gone for many of the same ones. Skullbriar, thun, and jarad are awesome in this deck. I almost get a legendary subtheme as well. But then you would need to get a Vhati!

Lumberknot might be a good fit. Lots of stuff is going to be flying into the graveyard, and he has hexproof. Plated Slagwurm is another hexproof beasty. I tend to like the hexproof, because there is a lot of spot removal at my table. And after investing scavenge resources on my creatures, I want to be sure my investment is protected.

Along those lines, spearbreaker behemoth is a great add. Your beasties will have access to indestructibility.

Also maybe some cheap constant token production, (trading post, myr turbine, squirrel nest off the top of my head) to always have a creature to sac to Varolz. Got to keep the boss from getting too hungry.
