Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Sorceries (4)

Instants (3)

Enchantments (8)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Illusions. Yeah.

Any advice.

no Summoner's bane because of the cost.

I put in Steel Hellkite because I think Emperion is too expensive and Wurmcoil Engine is the other kind of too expensive. I have this feeling that I won't get a single Wurmcoil Engine without paying 11 bucks for it. If i can get them i will put them in but for now, Steel Hellkite.

Deck discussion for (Help Please) Illusions Standard

I'd take out Jace to reduce mana curve, plus you don't really need it in illusions. Substiturte them for maybe another metamorph or another summoner's bane or mind unbound...without the 2 Jace, you need 2 more cards so the three i mentioned, any combination of 2 of them should work....just try it out if it sounds good, if not i'm not sure what else you could add to it. Illusions are pretty soild right now because of how easy it is to get Lord of the Unreal....if only you could give him Hexproof in mono blue somehow

Swiftfoot Boots are really the only option to protect Lord of the Unreal, and if you're looking for another boost-up card Grand Architect is another option. With his you can use other things like Platimum Emperion. Thats how mine is built.
Another thing is that I think there should be a cheaper counterspell, Summoner's Bane is fine but another option I think is necessary.
Also, you should have something to move creatures out of the way of your creatures, cards like Vapor Snag are great. Unsummon works too but I like the lose 1 life personally.
Levitation is cool but not really necessary in this deck, if you have things like Vapor Snag you don't really need the flying evasion.
Mind Unbound is cool as well, but with the illusion deck you really don't want the game to last that long to get to 6 mana. Its really kind of an aggro deck.
If you're woried about your creatures not all being illusions because of subbing in Grand Architect and Platinum Emperion, Xenograft will help with that. It will also help protect the Lord of the Unreal.
These are all just things to consider. I think the deck looks solid now, theres just a few things I would consider revising personally. But overall, nice deck. I hope I helped!

I'll have to disagree about the boots, Phantasmal Image is better LotU protection imo. Faster and cheaper and gives an additional, self hexproofing, body. Grand Architect is always awesome but Platinum Emperion kinda sucks. Wurmcoil Engine and Batterskull are both faster and better effects. Metamorph gains a lot of ground with either of those in the deck.

But yeah, definitely ditch Jace, he makes no sense in this deck. Summoner's Bane is kinda slow but it gives you a 3/3 or larger(if at least one lord is out, which it should be at that point) and counters a creature. Use at your discretion but I personally prefer Mana Leak.

Adaptive Automaton seems like an obvious choice for any tribal deck but honestly it just takes up valuable space in an illusion deck. Levitation sucks, your big hitters already have evasion. Replace with Vapor Snag asap. Mind Unbound is terribad here as well, go with Jace's Ingenuity. Hold out the mana like you're going to counter whatever they may cast and spook em by tapping/untapping your land a few times when they are casting, then at the eot draw three to refill your depleted hand. 1 or 2 is all you want.

This type of deck is awesome but vulnerable to board wipes so you probably will want to end up replacing Summoner's Bane with Mana Leak for when you sense one coming.

To be honest with you, i built the deck with the jaces because i already have one and I am 17 with no job so it is hard for me to get the really good cards like wurmcoil. I don't have a single adaptive automaton but i do have most of the rest so it won't be that hard to remove them.

Please give me comments on my ammended deck. Also, swiftfoot boots or spellskite.

I'd go with Spellskite if you have them. Boots are nice but the skite is another body they gotta burn before they can turn on your real threats.

Thanks. Please review the deck in it's current state. Also, what three cards should i put in the rest of the sideboard.

The Image is the obvious combo with LotU, gives himself and all others hexproof as well as boost. Also the emperion was just an idea, any other big artifact creature works just as well.

i would remove 1 levitation and replace jace 3.0 with 1.0

also remove mind unbound and summonder's bane and replace with something like 4 mana leaks and 1 spell pierce

sorry but I have to take issue with your sideboard

A good sideboard allows the deck to have a better chance of winning week matchups, in some case vs specific decks but more universely vs a type of deck

what deck would you need to add cryptoplasm to beat?
and what deck would you use ice cage for?

generally good sideboard cards for the current modern would be things like dismember, more spell pierecs to protect your illusions, and so on

a sideboard is not a random spot for putting in good cards that you can't run in your deck because of space, it is a place for adding cards that help your deck. Sorry, but it annoys me how a lot of players do not actually realize the value of a good sideboard, its nothing personal against you.

Thank you for the comment. I was really only focusing my sideboard against big green aggro decks. I've noticed that once an opponent gets an 8/8 or two, I don't realy have many options. I aggree with your opinions and will change my sideboard accordinly.

If you have any comments on my ammended sideboard, please feel free to say anything. Thanks again.

You'll never sell me on Mind Unbound in this deck. You do want some draw but MU is just too slow.

These are probably pretty standard sideboard suggestions.
4 Flashfreeze(valakut/rdw)
4 Spreading Seas(valakut)
3-4 Frost Breath(aggro)
3-4 Spell Pierce(control/rdw)

Thanks. I think I'll skip on the flashfreeze but the others seem like a great idea. Now, is sleep better than frost breath, you know, while it's still legal.

Also, I'm going to practice a version of this deck at FNM today, with 1 or 2 mind unbounds in it and see how it performs. If it just screws me over, I'll definately replace it with jace's ingenuity.

You, TheElSalvador, said something about you scare your opponent with 5 untapped mana and then when they end their turn, instant in 3 cards.

0
Posted 22 July 2011 at 15:48

Frost Breath is nice because it's cheaper and it's instant, the obvious down side is that it doesn't affect all their creatures. I like Frost Breath better but I suppose it depends on if your local meta has swarm/weenie decks.

And the fake out thing, well that's just something goofy you can do whenever but I was using an example where you trick them into thinking you were going to counter a spell so they keep it in hand and you end up casting Jace's Ingenuity at the end of their turn. It won't fool everyone and you'll probably only get away with it once or twice. You can tap/untap a land as long as you don't declare you're tapping it for mana. Some players use it as a way to think out plays before committing to playing the spells.

imo I would take out jace's inginuity and spellskite to add grand architect and two wurmcoils. The reason for taking out the spellskites is because once your illusions are targeted they die and changing the target wont negate that. With the architect out you can get a wurm coil out as early as turn 4 and they also buff up every other blue creature including your lords.

0
Posted 24 July 2011 at 22:06

that is false, as soon as you target an illusion, the spellskite ability acts as an instant and uses the ability on the stack, and as the stack resolves... the end result is that the illusion was never targeted, the spellskite is the new target... if abilities didn't act as instants, then your statement would be true... but spellskites are excellent in an illusion deck. Xenograft is a great addition to an illusion deck to turn ur LotU into an illusion, but it's not necessary if you get out Phantasmal Image to copy a LotU. also cryptoplasm is great if you're going against a stompy deck to copy their big nasty and as long as you have Xenograft out, it's still an illusion so gets its +1/+1 from LotU and hexproof!

0

nope the illusion was still targeted. you declare targets when you cast and it targets it on the stack

Like the guys above me said my statement is true and the only way spellskite is useful is in protecting the lord, and the images in the deck can become a lord of the unreal completely taking out the need for spellskites in my opinion

True and true i thought the same when they first came out but a judge at a local PTQ quickly told me otherwise LoL :)
my deck is verry simalar but i find it hellps having that 2 cost 0/4 blocker is alwas usefull, it protects my wormcoils and grand architect. In this build i might cut down or remove Spellskite hard choice depending on the local meta..

Aether Figment! I'm so sad no one runs it as it's the best standard illusion ever. Throw in some Adaptive Automatons and make the unblockable Aether Figment huge and swing in for a ton of damage.

0
Posted 25 July 2011 at 22:49

Aether Figment is pretty awesome. The multikicker run of creatures are typically inefficient, but when you make them unblockable... now add 4x or 8x lords that give them an inherent +1/+1 bonus.. The little guy suddenly becomes a powerhouse during all phases of the game.

But he doesn't have multikicker, just a regular kicker.

I just want to point out to you that Spellskite will not protect your Illusions, only your lord & metamorph. Once the illusion becomes a target, it's condition is triggered and it is sacrificed. Even if you change the target to Spellskite, it's still too late.

He's really a dead draw in this deck, in my opinion. You don't have much worth protecting that you can't already do so with other means. IMO, another counter spell would be more useful.

Also, just my opinion, but Tezzeret's Gambit is so much better than Jace's Ingenuity. It's one less card, but can be cast for up to two less mana.

0

Also, since this deck is casual, I want to point out a card that'd work well with your other cards. Mimic Vat.

Having creatures with such a glaring vulnerability, the ability to reproduce them with tokens would add another layer to your deck. Does your Big Green opponent use that Giant Growth to kill one of your illusions? Is it really worth it, you can just make a copy... or should he save it for one of his beaters, as the MtG God intended?

You also have two creatures that share amazingly fun synergy with Mimic Vat. Phyrexian Metamorph and Phantasmal Image. Both of them may enter the battlefield as 0/0's, which would immediately allow you to imprint them to Mimic Vat. It's not exactly the most powerful combo ever, but it is a LOT of fun being able to create a creature token copy of anything on the board, whenever you like. :)

Just food for thought.

that looks like a fun casual deck and i like the idea of you incorporating the cards you own and not just "designing a deck" - but you might want to run some more creature control such as another set of counters or you can take a look at my Illusion type deck for some ideas to incorporate - also my sideboard might help with some ideas to think about for your deck design too.

It won't save them. The "sacrifice this creature" effect goes on the stack as soon as they're targeted. It doesn't matter if the spell is countered.

jace's enginuity seems a bit week here, especially compared to say preordain, which, I think, is also better than ponder. Also, 22 lands seems right, but maybe try playing halimar depths? It can give you some of the help you wanted from ponder, while also being a land, though entering tapped does kinda blow (though it's a price definitely worth paying.) On the other hand, I definitely think vapor snag is worth playing here. I also happen to really like the new clone, which is a very solid card for 2 mana, and i'm 100% sure that adaptive automaton should be here... too good to pass up.

I hope the comment helped a little tiny bit, if at all. and if it did, or if you just appreciate the link, maybe check out my deck? A new caw-blade variant for standard. like for like?

k kid take out spellskites they dont work.. spellskite changes the target but it still targets your illusion and it dies before spelllskite works.vapor snags are shit and pre ordain is better then ponder.

You are crazy, first Spellskite's ability goes on the stack so yes it will keep his illusions alive and second Ponder is waaaaaay better than Preordain. You won't find a better 1 cost scry, except maybe Index.

0

mcflyguy, I'm afraid you are incorrect, as soon as the spell is cast the triggered ability from the illusion, to sacrifice it, is put onto the stack. In other words, before you can use Spellskite to redirect the spell the triggered ability has already been put on the stack and the illusion will have to be sacrificed regardless of whether or not it remains the resolved spells target. My opinion is that Spellskite should have a place in the sideboard against Exarch Twin and RDW [to protect your lords) but to having it in main is just taking up slots.

The Ponder/Preordain argument is a matter of personal preference. From what I have read the general consensus is that if you are running fetchlands Ponder has a slight edge over Preordain but if not Preordain is better. Personally, I prefer Preordain because scry has the ability of getting rid of unwanted cards like unnecessary lands when you want a creature. For example, today I was playing a game where I played Preordain and the 2 cards I looked at were both islands so I put them to the bottom of my library and removing the cards I didn’t want cleared up the rest of my draws. Had that been Ponder I would have been stuck after rejiggering the card I wanted on top and drawing I would have then only drawn land for two turns essentially putting me back two turns.

0
Posted 28 July 2011 at 02:39

You forget, Ponder gives you the option to shuffle which is better than losing cards to the bottom of the deck. So if things look bleak, shuffle then draw. I suppose we could agree to disagree on this one.

I will concede the point on Spellskite until they come out with a ruling on the card and it's ability.

So if your changing the target the spell or ability, the card would have needed to be targeted in the first place! or somthing like that... just saying
