Deck Description

Pretty standard Black discard deck, I wanted to try the green splash to see what it gave me. The best card that I get is "life from the Loam"
One thing discard decks have is running out of gas in the late game.
This is where loam comes in and saves the day, it allows us to not only retrace raven's crime to empty 3 cards from their hand each turn, but also get an army or works or dark blast away their team.
I also allows us to run some utilty lands that we can re-use over the course of the game.

How to Play

Card choices:

Ensnaring bridge: I would normally run 4 of these in the Mono-black 8-Rack version of this deck. but as we have bruied ruin we can just recure it from our GY. This card is crucial in the creature match ups like Fish, Boggles, etc.

The Rack: I have 4 in the deck because we can recure it from our GY where as if affliction gets binned we lose it for the rest of the game. Our main source of damage.

Shrieking Affliction: This alongside the Rack is the primary focus of the deck, we want our foe to have 0-1 cards in hand at all times after we stablize.

Waste Not: This is mostly a form or card advantage allowing us to have a smooth late game vs the slower deck. They will use draw spells to restock their hands out of rack range. We then proceed to raven's crime their hand away so that we can proceed to beat face. The 2/2's aren't the worst either.

Darkblast: Our main form of removal, with the banning of DRS in modern most creatures have 1 toughness again, don't worry about binning this turn 1 as you can just dredge it back anytime you need it.

Liliana of the Veil: Just everything this deck wants and has synergy with Waste not.

Inquisition of Kozilek/Thoughtseize: T1 discard and all around good cards not much to see here.

Raven's Crime: Main late game discard engine, working in tandem with Life from the Loam.

Smallpox: Removal, land destruction slowing down tron and has great synergy with Waste not.

Worm Harvest: Should be a late game allstar, after you start dredging this should net you 5-10 wurms a turn if need be.

Life from the Loam: The heart and soul of the deck, fills our hand with lands to retrace raven's crime. or brings back out utilty lands to be recycled.
Keep in mind you can empty your hand with a bridge out so that the opponent can't attack, loam on your turn so you have 3 cards in hand, attack with the 2/2's and 1/1's
Then use raven's crime to discard your hand post combat.

Ghost Quarter: good vs tron and man lands.
Buried Ruin: gets our artifacts back
Bojuka Bog: good vs snapcaster.dec, living end, graveyard decks.

Thank you, I have been trying to make Waste not viable, seeing which shells it's best in.
I do really like this one, but I'm sure it could use some work.

See I agree with this in most cases if i was playing R in the deck, but most of the time when you get people down to 1 card they either have an instant that they cast in response to you discard spell, or they just play whatever they have trying to out race you.
Affliction is much better in this version of the deck because you can empty their hand with crime over and over and keep them in the 3 damage range.

Caress would be much better in a different build, but I agree it is a good card.

What do you mean, green doesn't give you enough graveyard power? I made a mono-green self-mill graveyard-juiced deck that runs pretty fantasticly :-) Take a look:

I was mainly speaking from a competitive modern point of view:P
Though there is this guy at my LGS that runs a G/B modern legal version of the deck you posted, its not exactly dredgevine as it runs ghoultrees etc.

Did you ever think of running street wraith? You don't ever need to cast it, it just is a free creature in the GY and replaces itself:P

Ah ok :-) I mostly play multiplayer without any format restrictions (which also means playing against all-proxy decks and legacy decks and the sorts), I dont usually bother with formats, except when people ask about it :-)

Hm, Street Wraith is a possibility. Feed the graveyard, draw a card... Thanks for the hint :-)

I really enjoy formats, but I am getting tired of standard. This has made me lean more towards modern, I am new to the format and haven't done worse than 3-1 so far(only went to 3 modern game days playing my Mono-B 8-Rack deck)
The most casual I get is Commander where i have like 8 different completed decks:P (not counting the manabase as fuck that not buying 200$+ duals:P)

and np haha its just a free card and feeds your gameplan.

I just let my format depend on what cards my decks need :-) And where my budget is :p There's not enough tournaments here to really make a deck competitive in a certain format. And yeah, the dual lands are a rip-off :p But they are played in most competitive decks though. Which makes me even more pleased when I win from a hundreds of euro's worth deck with my 20 euro deck :D

My modern deck came out to around 880$, I traded in old card of mine/standard cards for 600+ dollars so i only spent like 200$ on the deck(not counting the cards i owned already.
I plan on building this one, i just need the fetches and I'm good to go. That being said I have been playing it on Cockatrice with good results(though people on there are bad mostly:P)

See I have trouble limiting myself to a budget, it normally starts like " i only want to spend this mouch" then 500$ later my EDH deck is complete haha

Do you know what else the green gives you in modern? Abrupt Decay.

I know this, my few reasons that I don't run abrupt decay are:
My worst match ups are R/g tron and Hyper aggro decks(Affinity).
I have enough removal, and as a top deck vs my bad match ups its basically a dead card. I considered running it in the board over golgari charm, but charm works vs affinity and also gets rid of those pesky leylines.
The only slow I could see adding it in would be smallpox or darkblast.
Smallpox has an amazing interaction between Loam and Waste not
Darkblast with the banning on DRS has gone up in value as x/1 toughness mana dorks in a thing again(not to mention the countless other targets it holds in modern and the dredge is relevant in this deck).

I have another Rock-Loam deck that does run Decay, I just can't find a way to include it to this deck without losing value at other angles.

You ever think of gitaxian probe? and this deck is sweet, very similar to a deck my friend has but his is blue black and uses the rack and a ton of discarding cards as well as waste knot. Very cool, always love seeing green black or GBW decks they are sick

actually play a mono black version in paper, Iprefer pack rat over waste not in most discard decks now.

but being able to abuse crime makes waste not better here.

probe just thins the deck out, more life lost and doesn't really do anything that my discard can't, I also can't recure it.
