I see what you did there. I like the midrange idea, but to succeed with it I think you need to take a lesson from jund and run a full discard suite. It helps you get there against combo, both fast combo like Splinter Twin and slow combo like Pod or Scapeshift. Disruption is a must. Also Go-Fer is just worse than Path to Exile in the format because too many threats just are begging to be exiled. Also Go-Fer does NOTHING against Affinity and you'll always see affinity. Finally, Phyrexian Arena is legal in modern, so if you're gonna run Connections, Arena is usually just better because it doesn't require a payment for every use and you can negate the life-loss with vapors and nighthawk. (also Tectonic Edge and Ghost Quarter are actually cards that see a ton of play).

+4 Ancient Tomb
+4 Glimmerpost/Cloudpost/Vesuva
These lands are way easier to get active than Urza lands by simply natural drawing. Plus they gain life!

Also:
For legacy, just run Counterspell over Nullify. You can get a playset for less than 4 dollars. Brainstorm, Preordain, or Ponder also totally beat Thought Scour unless you're trying to fill your graveyard.

4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Stasis?
4 Void Snare / Kiora's Dismissal?

Now I'm getting a deck idea.

I think Shard Volley is the exact opposite of what you want for this deck because you desperately want to reach 5 mana for big-K. Try dropping one for a basic island and the other for anything else. I think you'd like Chandra, Pyromaster in the deck.

I LITERALLY JUST marked my budget mill as unloved.

Here's the big guy:

*EDIT* I AM DUMB. For some reason I just glossed over the seven elves you play.
<strike>
I think you might have missed the Champion ability on Wren's Run Packmaster. You have to have an elf in play or she dies. :(

Oh, in Pauper EDH the commander can be any Uncommon Creature. Wall of Denial is the general.

Mind Funeral is a with CMC > 2 so I don't really want to tap out to cast it on my turn. Jace's Phantasm is basically a blocker in this deck and turns on my opponent's removal. Hedron crab dies to basically everything but is the one I'd be most likely to run of the 3.

I think running big hitters is probably not a good idea for this strategy, I don't want to tap out and do most of the milling on your turn.

You're not dumb, Bruna is pretty narrow. I still don't really get it.

I'm gonna modify the card choices a little bit, but that's hilarious.

If you want removal and protection you could try:

+++++
+4 Path to Exile
+3 Restoration Angel (The Best Kind Of Protection Because It Flies)
-----
-2 Baneslayer (Great creature, but probably not worth it at that stage in the game. At least that is what my experience with Hate-Bears has taught me)
-3 Rhox Faithmender (Similar Reasons --- also without Archangel a 1/5 body is not that impressive.)
-1 Chalice of Life // Death
-1 Angelic Accord
