-4 doubling season, -4 Promise of Bunrei, +4 Lingering Souls, +4 Abzan Ascendancy. You could also use some removal, Path to Exile if you have it.

I like Gerard too. He has his own archetype called, "Sultai Cards I Own". It mostly seems to consist of Thoughtseize, Dig Through Time, random foil creatures, and the singleton Counterspell. None of his cards are ever bad, there's just no rhyme or reason to his decks. Not that I'm hating on Gerard, it's just that his style of deckbuilding doesn't seem to work for the vast majority of players. I attribute his success to his high level of skill while playing.

Good feedback. I like Ashiok, he seems good. Torrent Elemental is also very interesting and I will try it out. As for the sideboard, I like Jorubai Murk Lurker, I forgot about him. Right now I would be looking for a bit more spot removal and the last Thoughtseize, more Cruxes of Fate, more Ashioks, and Silumgar.

What exactly happened to this deck? You been watching a lot of Gerard Fabiano, obviously.

What I am saying is that I actually have tested it... It's a 2 drop that trades with most of the format, is a great template for Chromanticore, and makes Soulflayer a lot better. Like you can play it or not, I don't care. I just have noticed how good it is and eljefe was interested in playable deathtouch creatures.

I think it is interesting that our decks started with some cards in similar since I first saw it and have only evolved to be closer. We have different builds, but between our decks I think the common core is really good and probably always a correct starting point:

4x Chromanticore
4x Soulflayer
4x Monastery Siege
4x Sylvan Caryatid
3x Murderous Cut
2x Sultai Charm

So that's neat. Our other card decisions and especially our manabases diverge pretty heavily though

It was mostly the effect with haste. You never know when it's coming, but you're going to take a lot. He usually didn't survive the attack, so his body wasn't as important. But he beat control with haste, and he beat midrange players with the effect getting the last points through, even if they had managed to stabilize the ground.

This guys effect is ridiculous. No one will deny that. But without haste you just can't accurately compare him to Hellrider. Time will tell if he's good enough to make waves in Standard anyways.

Let's all just take a moment and thank MaRo that Goblin Rabblemaster doesn't generate goblin warriors

1x Athreos because he remains mostly unproven. In this deck he would be decent because I'm playing all 8 lords, which contribute 2 devotion each, but he's still a waste of a valuable early turn if you play him on curve most of the time.

Brutal Hordechief is not Hellrider. Haste is a huge, huge deal. Hordechief is decent but at this point I would consider it optional. I would just rather have a Sorin or Raider's Spoils, but I could be proven wrong. Sorin is especially valuable in certain matchups because he survives a boardwipe to generate a creature (a reason why it's better to dash Strike Leader) and his flyers could end the game against a deck that took a bunch of damage but then stabilized the ground.

I choose Chief of the Scales because the body is large and it's another lord, even if it's far worse than Chief of the Edge. Any time you draw enough Chiefs in a row your board starts to get absurd. Plus they make most of your team survive Drown in Sorrow, and 2 would get your team through an Anger of the Gods. But now that I think about it Battle Brawler is probably better in many cases because of first strike. I'd play 4x of both though. 12x 2- drops is not too many.

but Heir of the Wilds does...

In my list it's a huge bonus. Awesome at holding until I get the big guys online, awesome as a thing for soulflayer bait, and especially awesome for a bestowed Chromanticore

3- 4x Valorous Stance. 2- cmc removal against the bigger decks, indestructible against control. This should also have at least one more Raider's Spoils. It's one of the most important cards in the deck.

A starting place for a nonbudget warriors deck:

4x Bloodsoaked Champion
4x Thoughtseize
2x Mardu Woe-Reaper (the other 2 in the side)
8x Chiefs
2- 4x Battle Brawler
3- 4x Mardu Strike Leader
1x Athreos
2x Raider's Spoils
2x Sorin, Solemn Visitor
3x Valorous Stance

Then you can splash red for Crackling Doom, Mardu Charm, and Rabblemaster if you like

Eater of Days has a pretty expensive unmorph cost for Legacy... Maybe Hunted Horror if you could work black into the deck? If not then I guess that's the best creatures outside Dreadnought. But Dreadnought is obviously far superior. I'm not actually sure you need another creature though because you have 4 Enlightened Tutors.

Also Stubborn Denial and Pact of Negation don't cut it when you could be playing Force of Will and Daze... I assume that's a budget choice.

You probably also need a backup plan in the deck (I mean besides Jace). A Stoneforge package is easy, and a flying hexproof creature wielding Jitte or a sword does sound pretty scary. There might be a better one though

Oooh interesting idea. And the scry is good too. But did you really have trouble hitting with your flying trampler? Besides, you normally want to discard the god anyways. But you should put in the card that has the best utility effect. That's why I have Erebos to blank lifegain and draw cards with Pharika in the side to fight whip decks. Actually, for your build I'd consider putting in Xenagos, God of Revels. He makes Chromanticore even better and gives it the haste it's missing. Plus you might even make him a creature, especially if you put in the other two Flamewake Pheonixes.

You know I experimented with that card. I'll think about Sudden Reclamation. But I do like to draw a Murderous Cut every game, and multiples cost a minimum of 4 since they fuel each other and most often cost 2 or less, so I won't replace those. Thanks for the comment!

I actually think I found the replacement: A couple of Valorous Stance could be protection and semi-removal for 2 cmc

I chose Thoughtseize over Stubborn Denial as a way to try and alleviate removal because of how much I wanted to tap out later in the game, but I'm not loving it so far. And I really hate Hero's Downfall in this deck, so I'm trying to find a good replacement.

Damn. I was planning on publishing this today. http://www.mtgvault.com/kmk888/decks/chromantiflayer/

Oh well. I like the use of Monastery Siege, I also came to the conclusion that it was the best discard effect in Standard. But I don't really understand a lot of the other choices. In particular, Taigam's Scheming stands out as a stinker unless it powers up Treasure Cruise to recuperate the card disadvantage. You should put the Satyr Wayfinders in the main deck instead; they also will power up your Soulflayers but contribute to positive card advantage instead of negative. What's more, they help find the lands to cast Chromanticore.

Oh, and on that subject, why would you not run 4 Soulflayers and 4 Chromanticores?? If you have dedicated the deck to them, you need the highest possible chance to draw them. Don't worry about running too many, you can discard them with Siege.

Other things:
Pheonix: seems a little bold to bait your mana consistency with double red. I guess you can discard it.
Sagu Mauler: 4?? He's pretty expensive... And you can already assemble his abilities onto Flayer from Caryatid and Chromanticore
Reality Shift: I think you overvalued this card. More card disadvantage, especially when you could have just added more Murderous Cuts.
Stubborn Denial: Good idea!! I didn't take note of this one!

You may want to consider adding Heir of the Wilds (Deathtouch enables Soulflayer to fight with Siege Rhino and is the best thing to put a Chromanticore on) and/or one of the gods for indestructible with Soulflayer.

I also tried to make a version with Prophetic Flamespeaker (It seemed bad). But maybe it would be better with Shaman of the Great Hunt. I also liked Map the Wastes in this version for the potential to put a counter on Flamespeaker.

It seems that this was a terrible idea. There is tension between trying to use the ability of Stockpile and trying to cast creatures for vengevine. What's more, casting Stockpile is basically taking a turn off of what needs to be an aggro deck in this format. I may use Stockpile if the format shifts to be more attrition- based, but I probably won't use it in a traditional Vengevine deck.

Gothy is right. Modern is now a very fast format, due to Treasure Cruise enabling Delver and Burn. In fact, all the decks that aim to last past turn 5 now gain life somehow. This, I believe, is the real reason Siege Rhino has popped up so much. It's not as good as Tarmogoyf (obviously) but it's one of the best midgame stabilizers that we've ever seen, and it is very potent on offense as well. This is also why Scapeshift leans so much on 4 Obstinate Baloths. I would say faster is better in this format, unless you plan to gain some life.

In that line of thought, I would say this deck is very badly positioned right now. Slightly less powerful offensively than Delver, a lot of creatures that cannot block, and discard matching poorly against Treasure Cruise. But I don't think that we should worry since Treasure Cruise will almost definitely be banned in Modern, which will probably send the format into a more grindy midrange direction.

Dude. You can't just go on other people's lists and tell them they did it wrong. Then you demand that they change it while shamelessly advertising your own version? Not cool.

Do you think this deck could make use of Necromancer's Stockpile? I think I'll try to make a version of this deck that uses that forgotten enchantment.
