Deck Description

This is my modern take on a red/black vampire tribal deck. I am still play testing a bunch of combinations but so far I find it really fun to play.

How to Play

This deck focuses around cycling creatures in and out of the graveyard (bloodghast/bloodsoaked champion). The vampire get beefy if you have a blade out and falkenrath aristocrat becomes very very strong when comboed with bloodsoaked champion.

Grim haruspex I am trying out for that extra card draw and the blood artist is for the direct damage and life gain.

Open to any suggestions! Thanks!

Deck discussion for Red Black Vampire Bat

killing wave works great in this kind of deck and feast of blood might be a better kill spell id also use terminate and dreadbore over the spells you are using

Oh I really like killing wave, I had a problem against a deck rolling invisible stalker beat down. I agree on the terminate as well, I just threw in a couple of kinds of kill cards to see what I liked but the terminates have worked the best so far.

Thanks for the advice and the look!

If that's a problem, then it's a great sideboard card for when you go against it.

*like*

There are some cards that work really good in sacrificing decks like this one: Grave Pact, Altar's Reap, Tragic Slip, Bone Splinters, Cauldron Haze, (Sylvok Lifestaff)
If you don't need her for removal then I would switch from "Olivia Voldaren" to "Stromkirk Captain" (at least sideboard it). The Captain will increase the chance of survival of all your creatures significantly.

Greetings
Muktol

Oh I really really really like cauldron haze. I was on a magic hiatus during that set missed some really good cards I see. I think I am going to have to order some of those and try them out.

When I was building this deck I was trying to figure out how to put the captain into this deck. I will try that switch out one of these nights and see how it holds up.

As always thanks so much for the look and the like :).

An Exquisite Blood would work well in this deck. However, it's a bit costy compared to the rest of your deck, but if you could hold your ground it will surely pay off

I would also add a Sanguine Bond for personal preference (gotta get that lifelink working)

that combo is awesome but tough to do In 60 cards much better for edh

The exquisite blood/ sanguine bond combo is one of my favorites as well. I actually thought about putting exquisite into this deck but when I ran it I found it to be a dead card in my hand because I always went for casting more vampires.

Thanks for the input though I always appreciate a good discussion!

I would reccomend Dutiful Attendant, and either Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos.
Rakish Heir would be great for the Vampire aspect.

i would recomend dread bore and maybe a way to beef them up faster maybe feast of the fallen?

I have debated on the dread bore versus heros downfall and I keep going back to downfall for the instant, but I am starting to lean towards to two casting cost dreadbore...espicially since its RB not 1BB. As for feast of the fallen my guys actually beef extremely quickly with blade of the bloodchief so not sure how much I need it.

Thanks for the advice I always appreciate the look!

Wasn't me you downvoted! Rakish is a good choice but generally by the time I am getting through I am hitting like a truck already. The single +1 doesn't do much when I can equip a blade on falkenrath then sac bloodghast and warrior for 4 counters and indestructible also possibly doing 2 direct damage at the same time with my blood artist. Higher synergy with blade then rakish is what I have found.

This seems like a solid Teir3 modern deck! It has synergy options and can kill your opponent fast whilst also disrupting the board.

I don't agree with killing wave though. If you have to get to the point where your spot removal doesn't work, then you are best of just flying over your opponent! even when you do need it, with the amount of mana your putting into it to make it worth it, you may as well play Crux of fate in that slot. I mean your creatures are going to be coming back anyway.

Two notable cards missing from your SB:-
Duress:- Its a great first turn play for you and will often hit the permanents you need in the anti control/twin matchup.
Despise:- This card is narrow, only have it in your SB if you know your going to be playing "soul sisters" or "delver" decks, but in those matchups it works exactly the same way as duress.

These are great suggestions. I never play competitive or anything, I just have a small group of friends that get together every Thursday. Its exciting to hear at least tier 3!

And yes I play tested killing wave and didn't like it at all. Every time I wanted to remove something of course they just paid the life didn't fit well for what I wanted out of it. Going to give crux of fate a go, especially since my buddy just made a dragon deck :).

How many of duress/despise do you recommend having in the SB?

killing wave is useful because you are using blade of the bloodchief you can board clear and still keep a vampire nighthawk equipped with the blade

sorry for the late reply!
... Id go for three of ether or two of both (though putting in only two can make it come a little late to the party..). It really depends on what decks your buddies play and what you want to hit with it... if they play control you might want duress but if they play aggro your going to want despise...

... would you be able to have your friends put the decks they play up on the site so we can take a look btw? It might help my suggestions for this deck. :D

Couldn't agree with you more. The cost is just a little much if I can get one through trade I would try it out. As well one of my friends runs a dragon deck and a few others have dragons in there decks as well. So the dragon choice works quite well. If I played this in a store or something I would probably switch to damnation.

fair enough! I agree damnation is a much better choice in terms of card quality, so if you can get hold of one that would be awesome.

With the Hexmages you don't really need downfall (the only really prevalent 'walker is lili anyway) so you should probably run more terminates instead.
Nether Traitor is also solid in this deck as a 2 drop as it also reanimates and has shadow, also it's reanimation is based on creature dying.
You are actually pretty light on red and the only red creatures are 4 drops, more swamps might be better

I don't know, having terminate online t,2/3 seems important...

I really like nether traitor, trying to figure out how to make it work. Trying to limit the non-vampire creatures but shadow + blade could be nice for some free high hits. In addition the return to the field works well with the other combos....

bloodsoaked champion isnt a vampire..take him out and add in a set of Stromkirk noble. Now, for a TRIBAL deck, I notice a distinct lack of lords. I suggest a set of Stromkirk captain and captivating vampire.

I see why you added the 6 human cards for your set of aristocrats, but what would you rather have? an aristocrat that occasionally got indistructible at most once per game? Or give all your creatures +1/+1 and first strike? take out all the humans and anything that uses humans. Its not consistant enough imhpov.

I can see what you are saying about the bloadsoaked champions but he is mainly in there for early aggression and recycle sac fodder.

I like him a lot because after a post combat phase I can sac him to do damage with blood artists and put counters on my guys who have blade equipped. If I attacked that turn I can do that as many times as I can recast him compared to bloodghast which is only one cycle per turn for land drops. Both have there place. The aristocrat buff is just a side note.

I do agree I need more lords going to work in some stormkirk captains because I think first strike with my aristocrat and my nighthawk works very well.

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it!

So with BFZ confirming that they will not reprint fetches, I think its time you bit the bullet and ordered the blood-stained mires. They are only going to get more and more expensive.
