No one has suggested Utvara Hellkite? I'm shocked! Also, Quicksilver Amulet can cheat your larger cost dragons out and still trigger both Valkas and Tempest. Friend of mine runs Atarka dragons and uses Descendant's Path with cheap dragons like Slumbering Dragon to hit his big guys fast. He also uses Dragon Broodmother for tokens because she goes off on everyone's upkeep, not just yours. I've been on the receiving end of it plenty, and it's no joke. All it needs is more stability and resistance and it could hold its own in competitive. Nothing quite like swinging with three dragons (to include at least one Utvara Hellkite and Scourge of Valkas alongside Dragon Tempest), dropping three 6/6 tokens, each of which triggers for six damage twice for a total of 32 effect damage. And that's BEFORE combat damage has even connected. Your opponent is dead before they can block.

I never said it wasn't, but everyone loses to stuff like infect and the spaghetti monsters. Rarely is anyone bold enough to run the crow

I honestly hope this deck can hold its own decently in a competitive setting, mostly because nothing would be funnier than watching someone have to use fatal push on a storm crow or even admit that they lost to it

It would, but curve wise the deck should be winning before that. Plus with Open the Armory he can tutor up what he needs turn one

Spotted a flub in your numbers. You said optimally that turn four you have five mana, but you actually have six from the three land and lotus bloom.

They're about $2 at the moment. Shouldn't be too hard

No by all means keep working on it! I'm not going to discourage you from building the deck, I was just pointing out that you're not looking at the bigger picture. EDH can be brutal if you don't prepare fr the worst, so we're only trying to help you plan for that. The first and most important thing to remember is that your commander will not always stay out. I run Iroas, God of Victory in my favorite commander deck and even though he's indestructible, he still gets killed off a lot.

That aside, here's a short list of things to think about:

1. Spells like Exsanuinate that steal life from everyone and give you an equal amount. That's a 2 for 1 with Maralen out since her effect isn't a choice.
2. Effects that increase spell cost like Thorn of Amethyst. You want to be able to cast things fast, and slow your opponent down at the same time.
3. Demons and similar effects are also worth looking into for late game answers. Seriously, go look up some of the demons in MTG. They're insanely powerful.
4. Ramp is black is second only to green. It's better than red by far, and if you're willing to deal with the aftereffects, it can easily net you some serious card advantage.

Hope these help!

You're drastically underestimating EDH there bucko. All it takes is a single well planned spell and you're done. In a format where you only have one of a card, things like Nevermore and Declaration of Naught are very real threats, and that's only the first two that come to mind. You're also forgetting that if I can force you to sacrifice a creature, and only your commander is out, hexproof won't do jack shit to save her, and each time she dies it'll take you another two more land to cast her. I have a few red and black spells in mind that make you sac at your upkeep or during my end step that will pretty much guarantee she never stays out long enough to matter to you. You're not planning to deal with her not being out, you're just entirely assuming she'll live once cast the first time. That's a surefire way to lose A LOT.

There's a very good reason we don't have formatting in text boxes. Anyone that was using vault during the time that username Solarmovies123 was here and spamming EVERY FUCKING DECK ON THE SITE BE COULD. It was impossible to look at certain decks because he had used a formatting backdoor in the comments boxes to put a page redirect on every deck he commented on. unless you deleted the comments, which in itself was near impossible to do with the redirect, no one would ever be able to view the affected deck. It ended up that the account got banned and the admins did some emergency site maintenance to prevent it from happening again in the future. There was a deck on the hot page that was filled with nothing but comments flaming this guy and all the cards describing what people wanted to do to him.

is it budget? is it competitive? modern? standard? is it a homebrew design? Seriously people, tags will get you more attention and constructive comments more than not having them will

The deck isn't really meant for anything more than kitchen table, so I don't expect it to work all that great. I just threw it together on a lunch break at work. Maybe do your own version and drop a link to it here? Because I honestly am not going to build this anytime soon

And what would I replace for it, as well as how many do you think I would need? I already have permanents that allow me to make more counters and such, so I honestly don't feel that I need it.

The only thing it would benefit would be if I had inexorable tide out and just kept casting it every turn.

The panorama lands from alara block are good includes to consider. They tap for colorless, but can go fetch a basic if you need it. And you can put them all in because they don't have colored mana symbols, adding flexibility

That would also work. It's just from my experience with waste not the often the zombies win or at least contribute greatly to the win, but that's also in an 8 rack deck, not this

So basically, use as foretold to help you cast as many of your discarding spells to keep your mana free and capitalize on waste not as much as possible, then swing with a bunch of zombies. I don't really but this as being that great competitively. It has ZERO protection mainboard save for a single four cost spell, and minimal in the sideboard. I get that hand disruption will protect you in a sense, but I still don't like it
