Infernal caretaker is also an interesting card. The main issue is that it’s mana intensive and it does not specify only your zombies (similar to gempalm but in this case it is detrimental rather than beneficial), and it is slightly mana intensive. Really hope you take a peek at my version, I had many variations and spent a lot of time balancing, I think it would help you a lot!

I like putrid goblin more because it starts out as a 2/2 beater that pressures early and the 1/1 is more relevant for drain later. With 4 shambling ghast, 4 festering mummy, 9 sac outlets and equipment you can trade up for a 4/5 toughness relatively consistently. If you’re against other aggro decks than the 8 weenie -1/-1 drops are great.

Don’t like shepherd for a couple of play testing reasons as you stated (no haste, slow, can’t be used in some instances).. Gempalm avoids counters and can be played at instant speed and recurred from graveyard.

The equipments too help against mono black because they don’t have artifact removal and help prevent you from getting 2 for 1ed since they make your innocent 1/1s into 3/1s.

Take a look at my deck I posted above if you want suggestions, I left a description in it. Think you really need to lean into the mid range drain with merchant/shepherd/ghoulraiser or a super early aggro variant.

Nameless inversion is a fun tribal instant that can be recurred from graveyard if you are interested in play testin. Carnophage is also a great 1 drop.

Toll of the invasion, gloomhunter, plague white are also cards I have play tested with to varying success if you want nuanced suggestions.

I’ve dabbled with pauper zombies a bit, here is my current build that I haven’t updated recently - not sure too much has changed though.

https://www.mtgvault.com/gdudey/decks/pauper-zombie-v2/

I liked the concept of lower lands, and always having a turn 1 play. Late game equipment mana syncs and gempalm are simply to go over the top.

Think it’s better than the midrange gray merchant version.

Basically the plague wights and gloom hunters have better synergy with my equipments. More or less that’s why they fit this pauper build a bit better then the more standard zombie pauper decks.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I currently have 4 gempalms in the build (not sure if you missed that or you’re just comparing the 2 cards), but this version is more of a beat down deck then most pauper zombie burn decks. I have tried shepherd of rot but it is oftentimes to slow against control (can just be killed before you can untap) or the self-inflicting damage is too detrimental vs. aggro. The plague wights are surprisingly very good in this deck because they have synergy with all of the other -1/-1 effects (festering mummy, grim physician, defile), and not to mention if they are equipt with a bone splitter they can trade up for a 5 toughness creature (really op for 2 mana!). The gloom hunters give us an evasive threat that can help push damage through with bone saws, and the lifelink can come up clutch in certain match ups.

I think having shepherd of rots in the sideboard instead of crypt creeper would be completely reasonable. Just personally have been underwhelmed with it against the S tier pauper decks that have plenty of 2 for 1s built into them, oftentimes completely wrecking us if we are not fast enough. I prefer the gempalms because they replace themselves, are easy to get back with recursion, and are very difficult to interact with.

Just updated sideboard, take a look! Changed mainboard too, lightened up on the discard theme a little bit to include some other cards and add more white mana

Used this as the skeleton of deck:

Then I swapped the lilis with karn and went from there

The main problem I see with this deck is it’s inability to deal with enchantments, but one neat trick is I can search liquimetal coating from sideboard, makes their enchantment into an artifact, +1 to karn so that enchantment becomes a creature, then I can kill it with a removal spell. A lot has to go right but at least I have somewhat of an answer other than hoping to discard the enchantment before it hits the battlefield.

Oh shit I didn’t even know that card existed! Definitely going to make the cut over witchbane.

And exactly I really like the addition of karn a lot. Using discard as the base of the deck + karn means I can put ensnaring bridge and the rack into the sideboard which most discard decks run main board. Discard is very flexible in that in can deal with a lot of decks and karn is also very flexible in the same aspect. In the past my builds of traspassers curse were extremely good against creature decks but basically unwinnable versus other decks especially control. Davriel is super good into control and so Is discard in general. One of davriel main weakness is creature decks sothe fogs + oath compliment him nicely. Also karn’s passive/static ability is pretty sweet because artifact decks fuck over wrench mind. Also I get to run 2 copies of orchard main board + expedition map in the sideboard so if I need it to close the game can always search that up.

The reason I am not playing gray merchant is because of my low land count. Ideally I want to finish the game before I get to 5 lands. Also, most of the pauper versions of this deck run gray merchant so I wanted to be a little unique with my build. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

What’s good Noad, I commented on one of your posts a while back but just realized I never responded.

Here’s a trespassers curse deck you might like more! This mana base is a lot better against blood moon and the like too.
https://www.mtgvault.com/gdudey/decks/rule-of-law-curse-4/

Sideboard is to throw off opponent/to have a chance against planes walkers and non creature based decks.
Let me know what you think and feel free to mess around with it! I was thinking about changing the sideboard to be a rakdos discard theme but I am unsure.

Peep, I’ve also been trying to make a competitive trespasser’s curse deck for a while. My biggest issue has been control so far but here’s a brew you might enjoy (untested).

hey, it's been a while! A few years ago when you posted your original "attack me I dare you deck" I choose to build the deck myself. Ironically I have not checked your account for a very long but my current deck is actually very similar to this copy (Mercy Killing is amazing), personally, however, I've had a lot of trouble against planeswalkers/control decks. I play 6 discard spells, hero's downfall, and some draw spells in order to help keep pace with them a bit more. I was wondering if you've had similar issues with the deck.
