0 land deck?
Interesting!

I have a 60 creature deck, it needs a lot of work...but 0 land sounds very neat!
You use lotus petal, moxes, myrs, and stuff like that?

Yep...and adults hear, "Magic, Spells, Mana, sacrificing, Dark Ritual.." and they start thinking very negative stuff.

Yep. I can believe that. Kids/teens want to believe. They aren't jaded. More open minded. More willing.
I hate being an adult.

My wife started. Made a deck. It got to the top of Magic Vault, believe it or not.
But she got hard on herself for not catching on fast enough...and just gave up.
If I beg her...she will play me a game or two. But she isn't into it.

Not on either side of your argument...but every single time you call someone "scrub" I can't help but start singing:

"No, I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holler at me."

Lol. You keep getting that crappy song stuck in my head!!!

Call people wankers, or something else. Stop with the "scrub" already!

That has went a long way. Not going to say that I pander (I probably do though)...but i do go around a lot and try to give advice/comments/praise/suggestions to other decks, in hopes that a few people may do the same in return. A lot of decks and a lot of Magic deck builders.

Every once in awhile, people seem to return the favor to me. :) The way I look at it...if i go look at 20 people's decks. And 8 of them think I did justice by helping out their decks...and if just 4 of them return the favor by looking over my decks/suggesting cards...that is still a win for all of us. They got card suggestions/likes/praise on their decks that they spent time and effort on. And so did I. Even if it is just 4 people. All it takes is 1 or 2 suggestions to make your deck better.

I will not complain. :)
My wife complains though...spending so much time making decks. lol.

Speaking of Architects...i could see where they would work nice with stuff like Brain Pry or Cabal Therapy (not Modern). Use Architects to know what is on top of their library (and in their library)...and then simply name their cards, and make them sack them with Brain Pry. Same deal with Cranial Extraction. Use Architects to know what is in their library...then just Cranial Extract their best stuff.

Memoricide, Cabal Therapy, Cranial Extraction, Brain Pry, Shimian Specter, Stain the Mind
Use Architect to set up their top card.
Use stuff like Sign In Blood to make them draw that top card, then nuke it with something like Cabal Therapy.
...sorry guys...kinda got a boner describing cards that I thought would work with Architect.

Sorry...off to make a new deck now.

4 Fireblast. Always use it's alternate casting cost.

1st turn. Play Mountain. Play Chain Lightning. Total damage = 3
2nd turn. Play Mountain. Play Incinerate. Total damage = 6
3rd turn. Play Mountain. Play Lighting Bolt. Play Lava Spike. Play Shock. Total damage = 14
Sack 2 of those mountains now, and total damage is 18 damage. Your opponent is now down 2 to life on Turn 3.
Your next spell kills him.

Would consider Fireblast and Flame Jet too.
Good luck.

I need to copy and past my rant I give to people who use Liliana's Caress (or Megrim) over Quest for the Nihil Stone.
I love Caress. I bought 4 of her. Have a red/black discard deck with Caress/Burning Inquiry. It is very nice.
However, I can not tell you the number of times that I have lost to my friend's Nihil Stone/Ensnaring Bridge deck.
I would say I have lost to him over 20 times and probably have only beat him about 4 times. And none of those 4 times I beat him was with my red/black discard deck. So, he has beat me over 20 times with Nihil Stone. I have a right to hate Nihil Stone and rant on how awesome it is.

With that said, if you are going to run Liliana's Caress/Affliction, you friend did it right!!!
You have very little creatures AND A LOT of discard spells. Yep. That is how to do discard correctly.
SOOO many people run a lot of creatures with their discard decks. Lame. To win with Caress you need to make them discard almost every single turn. How can you do that if you have 20 creatures in your deck, right? You figured that out. Good job.

You said that you have not played the deck yet. I know you will topdeck so badly!!! You do not have any cards that will let you draw. You need them, desperately. If you run out of cards in your hand, and have to rely on drawing 1 card a turn...then you have a great chance at losing the tempo race. Your creatures are iffy. You are running only a few creatures, so that is good...but there may be better options. And the way you beat people with playing Discard is to outpace them. Where is Dark Ritual?!

Suggestions:

3 to 4 Dark Rituals. Turn 1. Play Swamp. Play Dark Ritual. Play Liliana's Caress and then Despise. You have Caress out and your opponent is already down 1 card and 2 life. All on Turn 1.

3 to 4 draw spells like Sign In Blood or Night's Whisper. Notice on the example with Dark Ritual, you would only have 3 cards left in your hand on Turn 1. You do not need to run out of cards!! I can't express how important that is for Discard.

Creatures: Guiltfeeder. It is brutal. Unblockable except against artifact creatures and black creatures. He does damage equal to the number of cards in your opponent's graveyard. So, by Turn 6, when you attack with him, you are going to be doing massive damage with him. His defense is 4. That gets around stuff like Lighting Bolt.

Nyxathid. He is incredible for 3 mana!!! If your opponent has 1 card in his hand, Nyxathid is a 6/6. If your opponent has 2 cards in his hand Nyxathid is a 5/5. If your opponent has 3 cards, then Nyxathid is a 4/4. Etc. etc. However, your opponent won't ever have cards in his hand, right? Not with all of your discard spells. SO, mostly likely your Nyxathid is going to be a 7/7 or 6/6.

Discard cards.
Funeral Charm. The only instant discard card in the entire of Magic. One mana. Brutal!!! Opponent draws a card and you pay 1 mana to make him discard it before he even gets a chance to play it.

Chain of Smog. It is 2 mana. 2 cards. Your opponent can pay mana and recast it back at you. And you can pay mana to recast it back at him. With Caress, Smog can do a lot of damage to your opponent.

Good luck!

I guess I am trying to give reasons on why I am not more helpful with your decks.
You help me a crap ton. But with you..i look at your decks, and get overwhelmed. A lot of that is you being so experimental plus also running 1 copy of a lot of cards.

It is easier, again, a red burn deck, to suggest something like Fireblast after looking at the deck for less than 5 minutes.
With your decks, and not a bad thing, I almost need to sat down, with a notepad and a Magic Search Engine...and try to map out ideas to suggest cards :)

Excuse me trying to give out excuses.

And Number 2. You trying to use all of your cards that you already have. You are my hero for that. I can't even tell you how many cards I have (thousands) that I bought over 10 years ago...simply to be put in binders, never to be used. 15 year old cards that have never been used. It is sad.

Speaking of 5b. I may be way off...and sound like a dumb ass...i picture a lot of your games like this:
A) You get all of your needed cards out, and win, and your friends are impressed as hell as to how you just won in the fashion that you did
B) You lose and state, "If i only would of had x, y, z cards out I could of won."

Maybe that isn't true at all...and I really do sound dumb. But it just feels like there are probably so many games that you may of lost because you were simply missing 1 or 2 key cards.

I admire the hell out of you for it. Not wanting (or seemingly to not want it) to win with the same old same old, Red Burn deck with 3 or 4 copies of every card.

I respect all of your reasons.
