Deck Description

Hi everyone, i'm here with the 6th version of a deck that i'm trying to made, and as you see, it's not finished yet.

In side deck, there are some cards that could helps the deck someway, but some are too expensive, some are too weak

The purpose of it is to be a fun, casual, budget and timeless deck with decent chances of victory. So no heavyweights here. I hope you enjoy.

What about a deck that varies game to game? A deck that uses opponent cards? Would this be the timeless deck?

The problem with these mechanics, is that it costs too much mana, or have hard conditions, or is too much expensive. So i made a research and found some good options for a budget deck.

It still have mana curve problems, its a bit slow. Some things that help are 'Annex' and 'Nightveil Specter' (use opponent lands). Another solution is to use Opulent Palace and green mana with 'explore' or 'collective voyage' to help mana ramp.

Do you have any suggestion?
What do you think can improve on this deck?

And sorry for my poor english ^^'

How to Play

The strategy is take the opponet cards, or use them somehow. 'Talent of the Telepath', 'Control Magic', 'Soul Ransom', 'Annex', etc. are the way. There are much more of these "gain control" cards, but with higher costs of mana. Also, nightveil specter can help to use some cards. Any card it exile can be used, its like a "draw".

'Redirect' can give +1 in card advantage, and are fun to play ^^

'Rags // Riches' in case of facing an elf or goblin aggro deck.

Also, its good to have 'Talent of the telepath' agains some specific decks too.

Deck discussion for Steal List

I found this deck through the 'unloved' section of the site, so sorry for barging in if you didn't intend to shqre it with the whole site. I'll try to give some notes and hopefully they are helpful to you .

First of all, this looks like a control/copy deck that tries to play the opponent's stuff against them, which is pretty nice. I played a deck like that myself some time ago, and they are often difficult because you have to understand your opponent's deck as much as you have to understand your own. Some cool cards you might want to try are Nightveil specter; Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver; Control magic (which you already play) ; Domineering Will; Mimic Vat; etc.

I would play clones over changelings, since they directly copy a creature which ties in to your main strategy since they still work with Peer Pressure. Good cloners are Clone (duh); Evil Twin; Dimir Doppelganger, Clever Impersonator, Sakashima's student (expensive) and some others.

Something you definitely need to do is cut down on the number of different cards and colors in your deck. 5 colors is incredibly tough, you might want to cut down to 2 (3 if you have to), I think blue and black are your best colors. This will stabilize your manabase and give you more room for utilitylands such as thespians stage, mana confluence. Something that worked very well for me was Cromatic Lantern, which solves all your color issues if you get it on the field. some IMO, you need to cut all the tri-lands that enter tapped and replace them with basic lands. You also need to cut down on the one-of creatures ( you are right, the sliver overlord is cool but has no place here) and one-of spells.

Talking about spells, you have a number of super specific cards in here, such as the charms (are there any meaningful number of situations in which you have to kill clerics?) that you can cut and replace them with more catch -all answers like Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Murder or Profane Command. Since you play clones and steal stuff, you will be behind your opponent in creatures most of the times. And since you can't always steal them with peer pressure you will need a way to kill them before they kill you. Hence a strong dose of kill spells.

Some other cards you you run are nice but you could run more or less of them. For example, Redirect is an awesome card ( I absolutely love it) that can stop counterspells, redirect killspells and so on, but it sucks if your opponent doesn't target anything. I recommend running only two unless your playgroup plays a lot of target cards. On the other hand you could definitely get away with playing 2 frost titans as a finisher.

Hi there. I greatly appreciate your opinions, and the time you spent here. Most of what you said is true, and i disagree

First of all, i loved to know about these cards you cited above, specialy Domineering Will. But control magic seems to be in other level compared to them, maybe saving nightveil specter. "Clones" cards will be a 0 for arround 4 mana, which is a bad deal in my opinion. The mana curve will be increased for low gain.

The deck currently have:
30 blue
4 white
2 black
1 green (overlord)
1 red (overlord)
3 colorless

So, without overlord it's allready 3 color. I couldn't play overlord a single time in a singles match, so it will be definitely cuted off. I need to rebuild the lands. Maybe some vivid creek and some arcane sanctum for tapped lands and nothing else.

The changelling mechanics aren't working very well, since i reduced significantly the number of changeling shapeshifters from last version of this deck. And i lost sinergy too. It was easy to destroy an oponent creature with misery charm, turning it into a cleric with the lot of options i had, but now, it's the "misery card".

4 Redirects are working well, but in a few matches, one of then just left in my hand. I think 3 is the ideal.

Beguiler of Wills and Willbreaker were puted in the deck to be tested, and i'm really in doubt witch is better. The one i chose will require some deck changes.

I think there are better options that divine retribution too.

I'm avoiding the expensive cards, so it restrict the good options i have.

Well, lot of thinkins, I'll try to improve it with the knowledge acquired here. But more important than a new version of the deck, i need a new version of me, to use it with maximum efficiency.
