Like the deck idea a lot. A little one sided and weak to cheap sweepers but shows promise! My 2 cents:4 Dragon Hunters main? How many dragons do you expect to see in a game?? SB them and put in Courser to give the deck more staying power and much needed card advantage, (the life gain is not bad either considering your Confluence is gonna hurt a bit).Valorous Stance should be mainboarded. It is such a tempo grabber in almost every matchup in Standard right now!Spear is fine as a one off but running two just seems like inviting a dead draw midgame. Display in the SB does not really make sense, what are you afraid of that the other cards in there can't handle? I'd run more Banishing Lights in it's spot just to keep an eye out for Super Friend lists that is bound to pop up now that we got 2 new walkers added to the pool.

Got a couple of Dimir decks that play on the same theme, maybe you can get some ideas out of them.Modern: http://www.mtgvault.com/magicviking/decks/modern-discard-draw-project/Standard: http://www.mtgvault.com/magicviking/decks/waste-not-the-dark-deal/
Could not agree more! The versatility that Pod gave you is gone with Pod and trying to resurrect it with inferior card/s makes it, well, inferior... RIP Pod and if you choose to run a resurrection build of it then any Junk player will smile and take the easy win.
Ended up cutting the Mauler anyway, it was just a little to cute and going to the full set of Voice is much more efficient.
I don't see anything wrong with Keranos over Siege. The looting from Siege is nice when you don't have any other way of drawing cards but he has Cruise to fill his hand. he also has plenty of scry that loads Keranos every turn and a free bolt every turn is nothing to sneeze at in a format using tons of little critters and as slow as the current Standard.
That said, the concept behind the deck does not hinge on a single Mauler, (or Akroma, Angel of Fury for that matter), but rather the abilities and aggression of the other creatures in it. You are right that it casts a wide net in what may make it appear to go in different directions, but if you look behind the surface and know the Modern meta you will see how the deck makes it difficult to both interact with and complete the opposing deck's plan.
I had a brain fart regarding the Vial and Morph, you are correct in that you do have to cast Mauler and then flicker it, no instant speed Vialing available. Regarding Resto Angel, (or Flickerwhisp), and face down Morph critters works just fine. When the Morphed critter, (or whatever), leaves the battlefield it has no idea that it was ever anything other then what it states on it's face up side so that is how it will return. (Rule 406.3. Exiled cards are, by default, kept face up and may be examined by any player at any time)As mentioned above, Morph can only be CAST and not played any other way...
Hatebears does that, they hate on everything, but this deck mostly on stuff they are likely to run into.Let me break it down for you:Arbiter and Mindcensor hates on anything that searches; fetch lands, Valakut, Scapeshift, (and makes your Path and GQ better). GQ and Tech Edge hates on anything that has a strained mana base like Junk and naturally Tron.Militant and Ooze hates on graveyard shenanigans from things like Snaps, Loam, delve and 'goyf.Voice hates on instants and Thalia hates everything that is not a critter. Vial pops everything in at instant speed, (including Mauler at 3 or Dryad Arbor for 0), and Whisp and Resto Angel alternately protects your guys, (or flips Mauler), or in Whisp's case flickers opponents stuff out of the way. Pridemage, Teeg, Kataki, Revoker, Thrun and Splicer should be obvious. Elspeth, Forge-Tender and the Bomb might be debatable SB options but I kind of like the flexibility they give me.All that said and done you basically have a "White Weenie" deck that makes life very difficult for your opponent and sneaks tempo advantages at every corner while hitting early and often.
I'm an avid Modern player and try to attend as many events as I can when work allows. Having said that, trying to get Modern players together is a bit like herding cats, no date or time seems to work for a large enough group to get together unless you are in a large city. Is it because the average Modern player is a bit older then the average Standard player?Although I build everything from casual style Modern decks to pretty sharp and competitive Modern decks my go to deck that I usually pull out if I don't know the meta I am about to face is Hatebears. Nothing super fancy or comboistic, just rock steady and when played right can give most popular Modern decks a workout.http://www.mtgvault.com/magicviking/decks/modern-hatebears/
Coat does not trigger Defiance tho...
Thanks, thought I'd try something a little different then what the herd is playing.
I like it, she could use some removal in here. Thanks.
True, but how sweet would Drown in Sorrow have been? If they dont play removal then you certainly should!
I would think removal would be a house under those rules. Bile Blight becomes an almost auto 2 for 1. Anger of the Gods and Drown in Sorrow seems insane and there is no end to the nasty Silence the Beleivers can do....and that is just some of the Standard legal stuff.
You now have the Khans/Fate life lands for some duals...
Would imagine that the Sprite is mainly for things like PtE, Bolt, etc and that is exactly why I say to play 4 to get a huge tempo swing.Ex. Opponent plays PtE to knock off your whatever, you drop the Sprite and you now have 2 critters and he/she has 1 less removal to deal with them......and more lands will only do you good.
20 lands seems way low based on the casting cost of your deck. How often do you miss a land drop in the first 4 turns causing you to play stuff out of curve? I'd also recommend playing a full set of Spellstutters and drop Mizzum Skin altogether.
Thanks but I tried Despise and it kind of sucked beyond letting me peek at their hand. Most of the time I dont really care about critters unless they are about to kill me. Wish Duress was available tho...Oh and my 1 drop removal after Dark Deal is commonly known as Cut, (at instant speed).
So by now you should have figured out why Disdainful lives in the main? That aside, what are your allstars in here? (Fishing for ideas)
Cool! I'm brewing something similar in Standard so it was good to see a Modern take on it.
