The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

Naban is notorious at the Tolarian Academy for double dipping at parties, and he brings that same dedication to getting more to each of his lectures.

Getting Naban out is fairly easy as a commander, because he's incredibly cheap, and getting value out of him isn't too difficult either, as there are so many enter the battlefield effects in the deck.

There is a heavy milling sub-theme in the deck as an achievable win condition, courtesy of the visiting Professor Jace (and he enchantments he brings in for demonstrations).

There is also a silly joke with the deck that it is a school. The shapeshifters are the theater department, the merfolk the swim team, the Husher, sage of fables and Azami are librarians, Gelen Elendra and the Champion of Wits are the debate team, etc. It is a dumb joke, but it makes me giggle.

How to Play

The idea behind the deck is very straightforward for a blue deck. Get out as many wizards as you can, and get extra value off of each one from Naban, Panharmonicon, Minion Reflector and the many bounce effects to do it again. Once the value engine starts there's a lot of cool, interesting, and crazy interactions that can start happening.

Ideally, one clears all opposition and swings in for lethal damage (if you can get Sage of Fables to stick around, she makes the wizards pretty darn beefy), or falls back on plan B: milling the opponent.

It is fun, but can admittedly be a little clunky right out of the gate. I design my decks to be 'business casual', in that they are primarily casual decks, but have enough teeth to go toe to toe with my local gaming group when they're feeling feisty.
