There isn't much to improve because it's already very good. Some suggestions nonetheless:

* You are heavily dependant on your graveyard. Graveyard hate is common in EDH. I would add Bind - it stops Tormod's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus and Nihil Spellbomb, the three worst offenders besides Bojuka Bog. It can also be used on thousands of other things and it cantrips, too, so you can't do anything wrong here.

* No room for Palakka Wurm? Thragtusk? Vulturous Zombie!?

* For some reason Survival of the Fittest is still legal in EDH. It will probably best card in your deck.

* Vigor is much, much better than Pathbreaker Ibex

* I would replace Primal Growth with something else, for example Sprouting Vines. It will easily get you two lands, too, sometimes more, and doesn't cost you a creature. Sure, you want to sacrifice creatures, but a) you have tons of other sacrifice outlets (in fact I think some too many even) and b) you probably won't have much to sacrifice in the early game, which is when you need to fetch lands the most.

* Consider Tombstone Stairwell ... only *consider*, though, it might be overkill or outright backfire on you ;)

* Cards to cut:
- Skirsdag High Priest (too fragile and unreliable)
- Sadistic Hypnotist (too fragile and resource eating, should be Mind Slash to begin with)
- Fauna Shaman (for Survival of the Fittest)

So why is phrexian altar good?

Intsant sped sacrifice outlet that produces (coloured) mana instead of needing mana to activate. So you can sac tokens you got through other cards and create even more with Dread Summons of example. Could be Ashnod's Altar instead, I don't know how important the coloured mana aspect is, hard to estimate without playing this first.

Ok, I'm responding on the behalf of Wumps. He told me what to say but is busy being a dad =P

Bind, among other things, are in his Sideboard. He can post it up in the future, but doesn't like how it's in the same place and your general on this site.

"Would you believe I currently don't have a Thragtusk?! Palakka's badass though." -- Wumps (Vulturous is in SB)

"HOLY SHIT IT'S STILL LEGAL?!" -- Also Wumps

While he agrees that on paper Vigor is better than Pathbreaker, the problem is that Vigor can't be cheated in with Meren. In fact, with the way this deck operates, it would be very rare to see Vigor in play at all.

He agrees completely on Primal Growth and even said it often is a flop for the exact reasons you mentioned. He's going to replace it with Survival of the Fittest since he wants to keep Fauna Shaman in for more reliable searches versus ramp.

He said he is STRONGLY considering Stairwell, possibly as a replacement for Skirsdag, which he agrees is a nice fast low cost dude, but will often die before he makes an early game impact or is making an impact late game when it's already been won.

Wumps disagrees about Sad Hippie (I kinda do too). While it's 2/2 body is fragile, it's ability is devastating to your opponent, and it's a very reliable sac outlet mid-late game. It can even serve as a high risk engine to fill your graveyard. Also as a creature it is easier to get back than Mind Slash.

Phyrexian Alter is good for the reasons Puschkin described. It's used over Ashnod's because this deck needs more colored mana than it does colorless.

BTW, I just realized that Wurmcoil Engine is this deck's only source of lifegain! One more reason to run Pelakka Wurm but you might als consider Kitchen Finks, Momentous Fall and Grim Feast.

Oh and what about "upgrading" Spore Frog to Spike Weaver?

Finks is illegal in this deck. Hybrid cards must be in edh decks of at least both colors. spore frog and spike weaver are both efficient in their uses.

Spike Feeder then instead of Finks. Can be sacced at instant speed and profits from various other cards like Mazirek.

There is a decent combo with spike feeder.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Spike Feeder + sac outlet = infinite life, infinite ETB, and infinite gravestorm.

A lone Blood Artist? Still think this deck could need more.

Ah, Diamond Valley! I didn't even check the lands because that's a card you'll see once a decade. Maybe also run Mirenthe Moaning Well?

There's also Gnaw to the Bone, which I can tell you from experience can grant you an absurd amount of life in a pinch.

that all said i think i will swap in whip of erebos for attrition. I have been finding myself making that switch an awful lot with the deck anyway.
