abrupt decay is such a hoser in legacy. that card was driving me crazy when i was trying to play tempo. it pretty much, single handily, shuts down tempo strategies. nice looking deck though. no ooze?

thanks for the great suggestions/ the main reason im running 2 progenitus is because i kept running into the problem of wanting to No into progen, but he was already in my hand >_<' i honestly feel like crystal vein is the most tech 2mana land. considering your only sacking when your about to go off. why bother hurting yourself with ancient tomb? that said.. sacking your land and getting your shit countered reeaally hurts. so you may be onto something. the original list was actually running something like -1 progen -1 natural order -1 crystal vein -1 petal +4 daze. but basically what was happening was i kept drawing daze at the worst time, when it would do nothing at all for me. and i was basically just bricking. there was games where daze saved my ass too. the problem iv been having is trying to figure out how much of an effect card changes like that have, over just plain good or bad draws. it seems to be running more consistantly now, with flusterstorm in the side as back against other decks with lots of counters and disruption. what bugs me about the omni show decks is that they only run 4 enablers. and are playing a 3 card combo over a 2 card combo. granted omniscience isnt really NEEDED. but gives them the extra turn with emmy and makes grizzy even more of a monster. i just dont like the idea of putting ALL my eggs in one basket like that. if SnT gets disrupted, its pretty much gg. although they do get a bigger disruption package from only running 4 enablers. so i guess it has its pros and cons. thanks again for the great advice
maybe read the comments? "I just came up with this idea for fun . I'm not actually going to play with this deck in a tournament...I would get my ass handed to me the first time I played a RDW deck haha. The combo only takes 8 cards. you lay down a swamp turn 1 and then after your draw in turn 2 you must then have all the cards needed to complete this combo in your hand which might happen 1 out of 10 times. I don't actually play with decks like this because you are depending on the perfect hand to win and I that's not really my style. I'm all about aggro and consistency with my decks. I just thought thought this was a cool combo. If you want to actually see the types of decks I play with in a tournament check out my modern Delver/Infect deck and my standard RDW deck." 4 days ago by mlwoodie266 (7 posts)
so shadow is some sick modern tech after all. ^_^ modern is a format i would def love to get into. not having to buy duels is awesome, haha. i was recently reading an article about modern being broken in a bad way though. where as in legacy its broken but everyone pretty much has access to broken cards. where as in modern, you can T1 griz or emrakul for example, but green sun zenith is banned. or like wild nacatl is banned but delver isnt? shit like that/ as far as cantrips go, i mean those cards you named draw a card but do pretty much nothing for sculpting your hand or deck. serum visions is the best cantrip in modern right?
thats funny
you know that terramorphic expanse and evolving wilds only fetch BASIC lands right?
i dont know too much about modern but this looks pretty nasty. whats shadow of doubt for? is that some sort of modern tech? or am i missing something? seems like more of a sideboard card, if anything. iv been seeing alot of these decks playing baleful strix main, over snapcaster, which seems wierd but i keep seeing it. so maybe they're onto something. it sucks modern has no good cantrips :(
this deck looks pretty great. i would replace daze with either more propaganda/ ghostly prison effects, oblivian ring, or even moat/ humility to crush the aggro match maybe you could give me some pointers on my stax deck? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=382549
cant argue with that ^_^
i really think obilerator would be badass in this deck if you can afford it. maybe even play him and abby. you could drop 2 temporal extortion and play 3 obliterator, 3 abby. or just drop temporal extortion all together for obliterators.
yeah for sure, in this deck i can see top being very powerful. >:D maybe do some testing with the strix instead of the gatekeeper? im even thinking squeezing 3 or 4 strix in might be worth while. but like i said before these numbers look wicked tight, so im not sure what else besides gatekeeper you could switch. one thing i didnt notice before were the darkslick shores. are you playing those just to help with obliterators casting cost? cuz that might actually be pretty tech, haha. wicked deck though.
torpor orb is amazing, especially in todays meta, with snapcaster and stoneforge. and it shuts downs goblins also. but iv been playing against allot of bug tempo, and bug control decks, and everyones using abrupt decay because its such a hoser in legacy. so my mega tech solution was vision charm. perfect synergy with the deck. gets out nought, fuels tombstalker, AND protects the nought from the uncounterable abrupt decay. and of course any other removal
good thinking on mirri's guile. i did some testing with -1 ponder +1 guile and while it is a great card, i ran into a few problems with it, at least in this deck. for one, it doesn't actually draw you a card, and you have to wait till your next upkeep for its effect to kick in, which some of the time just doesn't cut it. also after a turn, without a fetch, its not really doing too much for you. so while it is a great card, and i actually use it in another deck i have, its just not fast enough here. same with top, great card, but i feel better suited to control decks maybe. iv been having great success running NO and SnT together. its proven to be incredibly consistent at getting a fatty out T2 or 3 and alot of T1s even. i feel like having 8 enablers and 8 cantrips means your finding something fast. also the synergy of playing mana dorks and show and tell has been surprisingly great. either letting me go off t2 pretty consistently, or letting me go off with more counter backup, or by helping me play through daze. also 2 enablers are harder to deal with than one. if one gets disrupted i can usually come back with another pretty fast defense of the heart is insane though. intuition i feel is better in sneak show because they need to restock fattys after sneaking them, and better in omni show because they only play 4 enablers. where as i have 8 so im usually fine with just the 8 cantrips and fetches to search for my pieces. ive been thinking of dropping a land though, and maybe a one of intuition could be pretty amazing. im gonna have to test it out. :D thanks alot for the input
maybe you could help me with this? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=399711 your deck is exactly the type of deck i wouldnt want to play against >_<'
its nice to see a decent deck on the vault lookin pretty good. so much disruption, these numbers are really tight also, i can tell you put alot of thought into this. i might wanna play +3 brainstorm over the top, as it can be kinda mana intense and slow sometimes. theres not too much i would change here. the creature seem a bit slow. maybe play baleful strix over nighthawk? its a lil bit faster and has that built in cantrip effect which is awesome. perish is a great side card for maverick and rug/bug decks you might wanna think about. massacre is another good one for maverick and stoneforge
almost all competitive legacy decks average around $800-$1300
ah, very nice. having those blasts musts help out so much. facing waves of counters can get old real fast. iv tried the wurm myself. it was in the original list, 1 wurm and 1 progenitus. and really what it came down to, was that both cards end the game in 2 turns. might as well play progenitus because it has better protection, and for me at least, i can pitch it to force. i also ran into the problem of wanting to NO into progen but he was already in my hand, forcing me to grab the inferior card. so i took out the wurm and opted for 2 progen. oh and its funny, legacy being so insane and broken is actually why i like it so much ^_^
while i am a huge fan of abyssal persecutor, maybe phyrexain obliterator might be better? also temperal extortion really isnt that great. even in a aggro deck that can really capitalize on either scenerio, it just.. never seems to do really what you want out of it. iv tried it a bunch in a few decks iv built in the past and it never really worked out, i would drop that , and sudden spoiling is horrible.. seriously. anything from ghastly demise/ wretched banquet to damnation, would be better than that/ / / hymn is great extirpate is great but i might go for some selective discard like thoughtsieze, inquisition, or duress to slow down your opponent while you combo off, and also really helps the match against opposing combo decks, and adds to the synergy with extirpate. obviously surgical extraction is another extirpate. the only other thing i see that might slow you down is a low number of ways to actually get bloodchief counters.
nice deck idea.looks like a slow roller though. web of inertia is the only thing keeping you alive, if that gets disrupted or destroyed or your opponent has a creatureless strategy your not looking so hot. i do really love the theme and what your doing with this deck though. very cool stuff. the numbers all look pretty night, i cant imagine changing it up too much.
lately everything on the vault is standard or casual, and neither of those interest me. and some seriously janky ass decks front page. but what can you do. still good stuff, i try to learn what i can here and there. i just wish there were more legacy players on here
