Haha yup its a flash/hulk deck. Probably the most annoying deck in magic, thanks god most of it is banned or restricted. Its fun for a laugh but honestly it isn't fun to play with or against. I mean a turn 0 win is funny but its far from fun. Only thing I know that can put a real stop to this deck is Leyline of the Void. Have fun and good luck.

Lightning Bolt was printed in M11 also so it should be legal in standard for a while longer.
Thanks and you're welcome! It would be pretty fun to play them against each other since they are so similar. I agree that searching for what you need via infinite scry is great. You may be right about the extra Lightning greaves and I will play around with the numbers and see what feels the best. I originally had 2 greaves in and dropped one to make room for Maelstrom Pulse because against some decks a hard creature removal was needed. One reason I like Feeder is that I can pump him up easily with this deck and because he is an expendable 1 drop in-case I am playing against something quick and need a chump blocker. (My roommates goblin deck with goblin lackey) I don't know if you had looked at Oran-Rief, the Vastwood before but it works pretty well in this deck. If melira isn't out yet it give you a way to clear -1/-1 counters off your green persist creatures and can help make Melira herself a little stronger. Have fun with your deck!
I was hoping that Needle Drop, Sensei's Divining Top and Magna Jet would help keep me going. Brow beats are slightly slower than what I was wanting originally but the Sensei's Divining Top have proved to be disappointing and I will likely add Browbeat back in. Thanks for the comment!
Interesting deck. I think Perilous Myr would be a good fit in this deck. He helps your artillerize and and Galvanic blast and even survives whipflare or can be targeted with 1 damage of arc trail if need be. Lightning bolt needs to be in here and is much better than shock or incinerate. I would rather have Volt Charge instead of Reverberate for this particular deck. Good luck!
Thanks and you're welcome. I have been learning a lot too. I will try to look at those decks some time and give some good feed back but I honestly am not overly familiar with Zoo, Breakfast or ANT. Once I get time to do some research on them and have some actual good advice I will post them. I didn't make this deck but saw it was a burn deck that finished 2nd place at a large legacy tourny and after looking at it, thought it would be great to build. This deck seems to have the best of both competitive mono red decks, Burn and Red Deck Wins mixed into one. Hopefully it won't have as many weaknesses as a straight burn or RDW either. I plan on tweaking this deck a little bit to make it better in my playing circle. I will re-sideboard Price of Progress since my friends don't use tons of non basic lands like you would see at a legacy tournament. Also I kinda think that I would rather run Pyrostatic Pillar in my main and sideboard the Sulfuric Vortex. The way I see it is that if I can get that out on turn 2 then by the time my opponent has the 2 or 3 lands they need to start casting lots of spells that Pyro will make them second guess playing them and may slow them down a little. I know that 8 fetch lands seems like a lot of pain but they help Grim Lavamancer out so much that I can see it being worth it. Although I may take that amount down a little if I do run Pyrostatic Pillar in my main just so I don't kill myself. I don't have a good Elf or Affinity deck in mind at the moment but I will build one soon. I have some friends with some good decks though and I have seen how quickly they can get creatures out. Elves and affinity both increase in speed with each creature they play. I am in the same boat about the Lion's Eye Diamonds and I deperatly need some to complete my Painters servant/grindstone deck. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=200115
Yeah you're right, its worth a sideboard. This deck has a weakness for flying creatures but hopefully it will power through damage quick enough to not matter.
Thanks, I agree. They have been decent for a while but were just too fragile. But now they actually have a good way to stick around longer and be protected.
I know I have revisited this deck too many times but I just saw the new card Sundial of the Infinite and thought it would be awesome with a deck similar to this. Sundial of the Infinite lets you end your turn before the endstep which is when you must sacrifice most of your creatures. If you end before your end step than you don't have to sacrifice stuff like ball lightning, Hellspark Elemental and Spark Elemental. If you mix Mimic Vat in the mix it gets even better. Here is a link to the deck I put together if you want to check it out. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=211047 Cheers!
Damn, you're right. I wasn't thinking. Mystifying Maze just popped into my head when I saw this deck, I should have went and read the card again. I forgot it said attacking.
Sundial of the Infinite is a little confusing but very AWESOME. So the way I understand it, it will also work with Mystifying Maze. May be worth adding in 2 or more if that is the case. Great deck!
I think that is what the Nevinyrral's Disk is for. Chaos Warp is way better because it is 2 turns quicker and an instant. By turn 5 if you haven't been able to damage your opponent things look pretty grim for burn but not impossible. Best case scenario if Leyline of Sanctity hits the table is to burn their creatures up and keep them from getting too much board control. I have never tried running Grim Lavamancer but I see that he could help a lot in that scenario.
Hello again. I have continued to tweak my deck and found a few g/b cards that are at least worth a sideboard and figured I would suggest them to you. Maelstrom Pulse (Crazy good removal) Life/Death (a little better than Nature's Spiral) Golgari Germination (if you want infinite creatures.)
Listen to raggedjoe. You have a lot of the cards you need in here but you need to focus more. AEther Vial is awesome in goblins and can speed up most creature decks. Run 4 Lackeys and 2-4 Goblin Warchief Also goblins are all about board domination. You only need a hand full of spells like Lightning bolt and maybe a few grenades. Likewise you don't really need almost any of those enchantments. Get more creatures and focus on getting as many goblins into play as possible. Some are pricey but look at cards like: Siege-Gang Commander Mogg War Marshal Goblin Ringleader Warren Instigator Goblin Guide Gempalm Incinerator Goblin Matron Goblin Chieftain Good luck with the deck
Spellshock is pretty neat and until now I had some how overlooked it. I am not sure if it is better than Pyrostatic Pillar or not. It comes out a turn slower than Pillar but it deals damage for casting spells no matter what after that. I tried doing something like this with my Burn Everything deck. It does make me a little worried that you are going to be burning yourself too much with cards like Flamebreak, Flame Rift, Arid mesa and spellshock. To counter act the life loss I added in Elixir of Immortality but for this deck it wouldn't work out too well cause you would shuffle your arid mesas back into your deck and you would hurt Grim Lavamancer. The verdict is still out on Sensei's Divining Top in burn decks. I originally thought it would work great. After playing it for a while I am starting to question it. It has won me a few games but it has also actually lost me a few games. The best time to play it is not in the opening hand but on turn 3 to help keep you from loosing steam. The problem has been that the goal is to win by turn 4 and wasting any mana on a non burn spell makes things slower. It does help out in games that drag out longer but I am still unsure. I will let you know as I play more games with it. I don't know if you have seen the new card Chaos Warp but its pretty neat and gives mono red an answer to enchantments and such for only 3 mana. Its risky but if something like leyline of sanctity is out it is very useful.
I'm not really convinced that this deck needs to splash blue, especially for standard. The double white casting cost in most of your cards will probably hurt you a lot more than the blue will help you. I would replace Armored Ascension with Angelic Destiny, its a better card and is way better if you are not running mono white. Good luck with the deck!
You are welcome. Here is my current build and it has honestly been kicking serious ass against a lot of my friends decks. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=189723 I have found that if Melira is already protected that putting Canopy cover on Carrion Feeder and then pumping him to something huge has been very effective and the Canopy makes him hard to block. One reason I like the asceticism is for its regeneration function. If someone is running surgical extraction last thing I need is for melira to hit the graveyard. So it works as a double protection for all my creatures. Surgical extraction is also the reason behind Tormod's Crypt in my side board incase I need to blow up my own graveyard or if I am using alter of dementia against a player running emrakul the aeons torn.
Replace dragon Fodder with Mogg War Marshal it will be a little better and you have the option for 3 goblins or you can just goblin grenade Mogg War Marshal at the end of your turn unless you want him for a blocker. Run 3 Goblin Warchief and 3 Goblin Chieftain and cut the Goblin King. Then run Goblin Ringleader and start dropping goblins like crazy because of the reduced casting cost given by Warcheif. I would take out Burst Lightning for the Ringleaders or even the Tunneler isn't a bad idea. Piledriver is a big target but if you can clear the way for him he can win the game for you easily. Thats what all those lightning bolts and goblin grenades are for. It is also the reason most people run Goblin Incinerators instead of Goblin War Strike. Either way if they use their removal on him that leaves your warchiefs and chieftains and siege-gangs alive.
Hi there. Looks like you have built a pretty fun deck. I particularly like that you are using Phyrexian Altar to bring out Woodfall Primus. Once he hits the table your opponent is in major trouble. I just built a similar deck to this one but I put maximum focus on getting melira out and keeping her alive. It has worked pretty well so far and seems to have a high turn 4 win percentage and has gone off as early as turn 3. Look at cards like Lightning Greeves, Asceticism and Canopy Cover to protect Melira. Look at cheap cards with sacrifice such as Viscera Seer, Carrion Feeder, Altar of Dementia or even some of the vampires that let you sac. That will help speed up your combo and keep it safe. The card drawing function is nice but what I found to be really effective is using Viscera Seer's Srcy ability to just search for whatever card I want and then leave it on top for my next draw. I also personally think that splashing blue just slows things down. Take a look at my deck for ideals if you like and good luck with your deck. Yeah this deck is just somthing I was playing with one day and I havne't even cut it down to 60 yet. I basically just through a bunch of stuff together to see if i could come up with. I guess you could see it cause you are following me because I haven't finalized it yet. But sure thing I will come take a look. Both of my roommates are currently working on competitive goblin decks so I may have some advice for you after all. Either way disregard this junk deck! lol
