Can you PLEASE forget the "modern" tag or read the memo about this deck bein casual? Casual games aren't decided by turn 4 and Sunbonded Wall of Reverences are exactly the things that make casual tick. And, in an environment where you don't have do your money shot before turn 5 is exactly the environment where Recumbant Bliss is better than Journey into Nowhere. You would be right if it was our goal to numbercrunch all the fun and creativity out if this deck until it could compete in a tournament. Which isn't what the Senress wants. Now, can we please all move on? There are lots of New and Unloved decks to check out!

I don't think likes on decks are wirth much here (because most people can't recognize good decks and like all sorts of things, maybe your deck features his favourite card or he thinks the deck name is funny etc.). The only likes I care for are likes on comments when I help someone out with his deck. It's a sign of appreciation and gratefulness. I mean, most people here want comments on their decks but only very few are willing to comment themselves. At the very least they could give a like when they get what they want.
Well, most do. Why do you think is "social media" such a big thing? Everybody is craving for attention and recognition.
34 basic swamps!? Okay, so you are on a budget and don't want to add something like Volrath's Stronghold and Wasteland, but there are many affordable non-basics that would give you options, at the very least you should run Bojuka Bog.
That's a problem of this site: That you a) have only 4 tags and b) no way beyond tags to mark decks as casual/competitive. If I spend my tags on format, casual/competitive and multiplayer/1vs1 (which is also important!) then I used up 3 of my 4 tags and still haven't decribed the actual deck!
This is an issue coming up time and again - "too slow for modern" for example is not a concern for casual decks, this isn't meant to be played in tournaments. Divinity of Pride is a powerhouse and belongs here. Solemn Offering has the potential to be dead, much like a deck without any removal has the potential to die to enchantments and artifacts. Of the current 19 decks of Hot Page only 4 decks run no targets for Solemn Offering and most of them are tournament decks. The other 15 do have either plenty targets or they run fewer but among them are the key cards of the deck. This correlates with my 20+ years of experience in casual Magic play - you'll always have targets for a Disenchant, at the very least mana artifacts or creature boosters but in many cases cards that are vital to the deck or even the card the deck was built around. And - unlike Disenchant, which would be wasted if you cast it on a random artifact that doesn't bother you, you can always cast it just to get life.SeanL has a point, many people don't respect artistic choices made in casual decks and are unable to keep the deck in theme. However, commenting on casual decks isn't easy for many reasons and I don't think ManiacalManiac made his comments in malice. I know him from other decks here, he is just more on the competitive side, that's all. And I also don't want to be a judge here, so, please, let's keep it civil and try to be friends.
Keep the Oblivion Rings, they add to the white permanent count for the Martyrs :)
As I said already on so many other decks: Don't run cards like Rest for the Weary (why is this card so popular?) in decks like this - pure lifegain that doesn't change board position is rarely worth adding! Your opponent is beating you with critters. You gain life life back with Rest for the Weary, opponent plays more critters and hits your for even more damage. You'll lose that race at some point for sure. To make things worse you have exactly 2 ways to handle non-creature threats, namely 2 Oblivion Rings. Which are nice but not a permament solution, so if your opponent runs enchantment removal, they get their stuff back.* That's why I always recommend to replace those pure life givers with life givers that also help you in other areas - in this case I would replace Rest for the Weary with Solemn Offering. * I would also reduce the copies of Elixir of Immortality to 2 and add something more productive, say, Survival Cache, Chastice or Nyx-Fleece Ram. Personally I'd go with the Ram because you have such a low creature count.* While I really, really like those Wall of Reverence, they will rarely give you more than one life per turn in this deck. You have only 4 creatures with power greater than 1 and chances are that you will win anyway when they are in play. So, would either:- add something with high power, for example Kithkin Rabble- add something that boost the power of the Wall, great choice would be Sunbond, the wall would double it's power every turn also (combos with the rest of the deck)- replace it with something else, for example Gerrard Capashen or Rhox Faithmender* In this deck I would run Recumbent Bliss instead of Journey to Nowhere.* Lots of room for improvement regarding your mana base. It wouldn't hurt to replace some of the Plains with non-basics that only produce colorless mana but have a special ability like Quicksand, Ghost Quarter or Miren, the Morning Well.* Depending on the changes you make, recheck your white card count for purposes of the Martyr of Sands - you currently run only 28 white cards, that's less than half of the deck ...
I don't think that's viable. All I can do is make sure that it won't affect me and hope that it confuses the other players. And I have no control over what kind of lands my opponents run - if they are using certain duals, triple or rainbow lands, then the Singularity doesn't have any effect on them. I could run Blood Moon to turn non-basics into Mountains (which then produce blue mana o_0) but how does that improve the situation over running a regular Blood Moon deck? Add to this the fact that I also have to combat the cumulative upkeep and that there is no mana burn anymore (so players won't run into troubles with lands producing excess mana they can't use) and I fear, whatever I can come up with could be accomplished way more easier with something else.I'll give it a shot, but meanswhile I ask you to find another challenge.EDIT: Multiplayer or 1vs1 ?
100 dollars? Wow, times have changed. Last times I checked (and I mean that literally) it was about 20 :)Fate Unraveler still just does one damage per turn. Sure, they add up if the opponent does nothing - then again, everything will beat a goldfish eventually. By that logic Prodigal Sorcerer is a good card if you just have enough of them in play. Grin Guardian and Coinsmith are different because they trigger with the rest of your deck (especially when you replenish but Unraveler won't. I know it's still annoying, everybody playing since 1994 like me had his fair share of respect for Underworld Dreams, however, those 20+ years of experience tell me it isn't worth the trouble if you don't enforce extra draws. He is a 3/4 beatstick, however. Still, I think you'd be better off running something else in that slot that fits your theme. Like Ajani's Chosen, Sigil of the empty Throne or Daxos the Returned. The last one is especially nasty since the tokens he creates are enchantments, too!
Then it was an unfortunate oversight. Welcome now, then :) Would be nice if you introduced yourself a bit.
Hello DedWards,I just read your comments on my old Obscure Card Challenge and realized I forgot about you when I started a little something called The Deckhelp Alliance. Judging by your comments and decks I think you would be a nice addition to our little "secret society" ... so I hereby invite you to join. The idea is to help each other with comments and deck critiques. Read more here:http://www.mtgvault.com/puschkin/decks/the-deckhelp-alliance/and if you are interested, say hello there.
Commented.I'd like to revive my Obscure Card Challange:http://www.mtgvault.com/puschkin/decks/obscure-card-challenge-occ/Re-reading the first entries I realized I forgot to invite DedWards! Or maybe I did and he didn't want to join :P Anyway, I just invited him.
* Hm, I am a but surprised by the color selection. For splashes other cards came into my mind and the best would probably be green: Rancor, Survival of the Fittest and Sterling Grove, each of them sick with constellation. If you go with Rancor, Faith Healer might be an option. Although, adding Survival is oftentimes quickly leading to restructuring the entire deck until it is a Survival deck, so be careful. And Rancor doesn't go well with your Arcane Labs.Green would also allow to play with Abundant Growth type of cards.* I don't think Fate Unraveler belongs in this. The deck doesn't have any global card draw and if your opponent draws lots of cards by himself, he won't be happy with them anyway due to the Arcane Lab critters, so why bother? * My guess is, if you owned any Serra's Sanctum, they would be in, right? * You are a tad bit light on mana - 20 sources is hardly enough to support a deck that can't win early.
Beacon of Immortality is actually an instant kill with Tainted Sigil out, regardless of how many life the opponent has! Why did we all miss this?
Yeah, I can't believe this is unbeaten just for the mana base alone ... running all five colours (at almost even distribution!) and supporting those with mainly basic lands is kind of ... suboptimal :P Also, for a deck that wants to win early game he has a lot of expensive slivers. I especially question the Groundshaker and Constricting Slivers, both are really bad cards. If you want trample for your slivers, use Horned Sliver instead. And Constriting ... just cut it altogether! By the time you get him into play your hand should be empty and even if you get out another sliver to exile someting, Constricting Sliver himself is just 3/3 and if he dies, he releases the creatures he exiled ... I see another possibility why this is unbeaten: He hasn't played it yet :)
Ah, the irony! First deck in Unloved section I commented on ran 2 random mill cards :)http://www.mtgvault.com/rabidravingrabbit/decks/just-forfeit-already/
Yes and I didn't say anything until ShackledAngel said she will keep your suggestion in mind. THAT was the actual trigger. Can we leave it at that? Every response keeps this deck on Hot page for another week. This deck had enough attention and there are countless other decks that deserve a comment or two. I will now head off and check the Unloved section. I would be honoured if everybody reading this did the same :)
It's hard to detect if someone is serious or not. A lot of people had suggested random mill cards to some of my decks and they were dead serious, which is why I combat this notion whenever I see it :)
Erm --- yes? Deck search and filter for most likes, doh.
