Yeah finding the engineer was a drag. I'm in the fence about taking the whole infinite mana route out all together and focussing on the altar of the brood idea.

Ah I see what you mean. What would you suggest I swap out for it?

Nice deck, well put together. Love the Eater of days, had 4 copies a few years ago in a suspend deck and Ive rarely had a more fun deck since! +1

Throne of Geth, steady progress, unexorable tides would all be great in here, basically anything with proliferate. I only had a brief look at the cards but there seam to be a lot to choose from. Failing that try dovescape and uzras armour for the ultimate defence.

For the cornucopia win condition yes but the altar of the brood condition needs just 4 and means more free mana. For that one all I need play out is the altar and the guard before I combo out, as I can play the remaining two cards both on turn four and nothing short of a counterspell can stop it (or that bloody hushwing!!).

Bribers purse doesn't supply mana like the cornucopia does however ornithopter would certainly alleviate the need for the monastery mentor if I was looking for the Altar of the brood win condition.

The problem with the tokens is I need the engineer to make it work which means any tap land slows the deck down a full turn. Fascinations a great idea though.

Zoanthrope is right if you want to get the Peal lake Ancient out your going to need either some acceleration or more control so you can draw out the game.

I'm trying to avoid white where I can however the treasure cruise sounds good but what to take out?

I like this deck, not too pricey and looks pretty fun to play. I have a similar deck - http://www.mtgvault.com/sohlon/decks/jeskai-prowess/

I have only just got back into magic so if you could give me any advice that would be great.

How do you find your complex mana base plays in what looks to be a fairly fast paced deck?

Nice deck. I had a Thalid deck back in timespiral and I have to say it was the most fun deck I have ever played.

I shouldn't struggle too much to keep the chimera on the board. At the moment I'm trying to find the balance between the burn and having enough creatures for a meaningful board presence.

I like the deck although you seam pretty light on early spells. How have you found the Servants to work. I tried a deck with them myself
http://www.mtgvault.com/sohlon/decks/master-the-burn/ But just couldnt get them to work. Have you considered Battlefield Thurmaturge (spelling?) and Icy blast? for 3 mana you can tap down all their creatures (plus target your own for heroics) and as its the spell that taps not the creature you can drop it all on the same turn (just remember to target the Thurmaturge too to get hexproof up).

Other than that all id suggest would be Dakra mystics to help bring an early treasure cruise or simply draw the cards you need that way.

You could also try Mirror-Mad Phantasm followed by Psychic Spiral.

Have you tried Tunnel vision and Junktroller? Use the troller to put a card on the bottom of their library and tunnel vision down to it. Played it back when Ravnica first came out and it was a blast. Just be careful what card you pick.

Its 7 mana but Dismiss into Dream is fantastic one turn with that in play and something like Icy blast which targets creatures and you can clear their board. It fits with the theme too. Battlefield Thaumaturge and icy blast would let you do it all for 3 mana but unfortunately the Battlefield Thaumaturge isnt an illusion and so wouldnt fit.

It really depends on what your end game is or what your overall strategy will be. Im assuming you plan on reducing their life total to 0 so how will you get the damage through? typical control locks down the board before dropping a key creature to finish the job. An Ensoul artifact will kill in just 4 swings however if your splashing red a craters claws / mindswipe might help you get the damage through but leaves you more vulnerable to counterspells. Its tricky for a budget deck as control cards tend to be pricey.

I have a red blue deck (although its more burn really) which might give you a few ideas if you take a look.

An idea you could use is Battlefield Thaumaturge combined with Icy Blast. you can essentially tap down all their creatures turn 3+ for 1 mana. Turn 2 if you play spring leaf drum as your 1st turn drop. plus the Thaumaturge gains hexproof if you target him aswell.

Looks like a nice deck although its going to struggle against aggro you can only counter so many spells and you have no solutions really once something hits the table. Might be an idea to look at aetherspouts or retraction helix or even splash red for some burn. At the moment you don't seam to have any real reason the maintain a pure blue deck I.e no devotion etc.

Well the enchantment creatures add very little to the deck. Sure the ram has a high toughness and gains you a little life butit doesn't deter attackers, maybe something with death touch? Or just more removal. Black and white havevloads of removal atm.
