Good point--I've been shifting from years of playing kitchen table with a few drafts/pre-releases to moving primarily to FNMs and Standard. I always knew the two were completely different beasts, but it's ridiculous to me how much one is dominated by people wanting to have fun smattered with a few who are obnoxious, versus the other being dominated by people trying to be cutthroat with a few who are just there to make friends/hang out. I've been thinking about writing up a few articles about it all.

That being said, your point makes total sense that I feel like the "old me" would have realized, haha.

I would bring Rhys down to a 3x, if not 2x--since he's legendary, you really don't want one dead in hand. I would up Joraga Warcaller to 4x (maybe for the 2 pennon blades, since he will basically do that, but biggger), and add in some Immaculate Magistrate. That card combos greatly with JW.

I also always recommend wirewood lodge and wirewood pride. I also think taunting elf is one of the best elf cards out there. Ezuri is good, too. One of my favorite combos when making lots of elves is to beef up taunting elf (wirewood pride, timberwatch elf, immaculate magistrate), put an infiltration lens on him, and swing, making every creature block him, and drawing lots of cards. Also great if you use Ezuri to regen him.

Other cards to consider would be Genesis Wave and Devoted Druid + Presence of Gond.

Those are some of my favorite elf combos. Have fun!

I would drop Centaur herald, Mask of Avacyn, Tablet of the guilds, and spell bomb.

I would add hermit druid, lightning greaves/swiftfoot boots, creakwood liege, and abrupt decay.

Awesome, I love wall decks.

One idea is to throw Luminarch Ascension in here--damage rarely gets through to you, so you'll likely end up with lots of angels. Also, I would 4x the shield-bearers...they get nuts when they stack.

Also, another win con I use in my wall deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=90235 if you're interested to see it) is Overwhelming Battlements + Fireball. That alongside Vent Sentinel wins it. This could also be accomplished with Axebane Guardian. This requires splashing green, but there are many good defenders in green, so it's worth looking into. The fun shenanigan I add here for making lots of defender tokens to help OB and VS is Wojek Embermage + Sprouting Phytohydra--use the embermage to ping your phytohydras, which doubles them all. Have fun!

Done and done. :-) Storm Herd was a good idea, didn't think of that. I don't think I want to take this thing full lifegain, I'm liking it where it is. I've always said I'll never be that guy who puts Serra Ascendant in an EDH deck. Looking forward to playtesting this thing, though.

I don't know if I would have Rogue's Passage as a 4x...maybe two or three. Also, what cards are you looking at adding/taking out when you get more cards? No point in my suggesting things you're already planning to do.

I know you don't really need it, but planar chaos would be a fun lock-down.

Yeah, I feel like I may have half-assed the lifegain thing, so I may need to work that over.

Honestly, what spawned the idea for this deck is to populate Ajani's avatar token--in EDH, that thing is already a beast without lifegain, but to pull that off would be awesome.

Unburial rites with the Angel has been doing really well lately alongside Goldnight Commander, but I honestly feel that would be an entirely different deck to build. I think with boros and orzhov coming, WBR will be an interesting deck.

I think you're right about the zealot/paladin, and while the R/W shockland will help, I doubt that problem will be fixed. I'll look it over.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, I think Boros is the guild I am most excited for in the next set, though I do love some Gruul, too. I could see Spare falling a little flat for most of the time it has been in standard, but I feel like the meta now has much fewer human decks, and can provide some pretty hefty damage to get through.

Any thoughts on what else to add to the SB?

I completely agree on the rootborn being better in the sideboard. I already had 3 thatcher revolts in here, but I went ahead and -3 RD, +1 TR, +2 DT. I think that will afford a cleaner draw.

As for Champ, I currently have him in this deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=407981, which I was trying to differentiate in my mind between a good Boros human deck and Boros token deck. However, I think both of these will change a lot in a month with GTC.

I like the idea of mob, but I haven't run him much. I'll playtest that and get back to you.

Yeah, the one thing I dislike about the deliverance piece is that if you drop it after declaring blockers, and they somehow counter/get rid of it, there's no chumps to fall back on.

Also, I hear you on Seton, he's an acquired taste. He's a pretty stellar combo piece in this deck, though, which I rarely play because it's a little too mean: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=136489 :-)

Eyes in the Skies is not a great populate card, especially when the best thing you'll have to populate is a 2/2 drake, which only 7 cards out of 60 give you. You'll be paying (3W) for a 1/1 bird and a 2/2 drake, or 2 1/1 birds. You'd be better off with Rootborn Defenses, or splashing green for Druid's Deliverance or some other cards, or just not worrying about the populate at all.

Just me, but I would splash black for Vampire night hawk, Vault of the Archangel, and Sorin. Lots of lifelink there, and also some good black spells currently to spend life on, like killing wave, sign in blood, and underworld connections (which isn't that great).

If you wanna spring for the Hellriders, they'd take this deck a long way. I'd also recommmend Dynacharge--in a quick token spam deck, that card could be a nice finisher. Never underestimate +2/+0 to all your creatures for 2R.

For flyers just SB some plummets--your aggro should be able to outrace anything but big flyers. Also Tribute to Hunger should be SB if anything.

Arcbound Crusher might be another interesting piece if you can't get the Heartless/grapeshot for whatever reason. Swinging for infinite trample feel so good.
