Whispersilk Cloak - Equips to grant Shroud and makes the creature unblockable, both protecting the Ninja from targeted removal and allowing for all the damage triggers.

Signal Pest - A cheap creature with combat evasion. The Battlecry also helps push through that extra bit of damage.

A Primer on Ponza. The Primer on the first page is updated fairly often (the OP puts a lot of work into it), there's constant (healthy) debate on what's good and bad for our deck, and people post their results with thier decklist whenever they play in big tournaments. So it's good, up to date reference on this deck type. I also post on there from time to time, my username there is VampireChild85.

Ah, Ponza. Such an awesome deck.

Just a rules update you obviously aren't aware of: As of the release of Amonkhet, you can no longer cheat the Bust half of Boom // Bust via Goblin Dark-Dwellers etb. The change in the rules made it so that both sides added together are checked for everything that checks a card's cmc, thus Goblin Dark-Dwellers now sees Boom // Bust as an 8 mana sorcery({1}{R}+{5}{R}), thus not a legal target for its etb. Yes, it sucks, I was using that trick too, but dems the rules.

Another note on Goblin Dark-Dwellers, but this time with Trinisphere. With Trini out, you still have to pay {3} to cast the spell off Goblin's etb.

Now for a personal preference: I do not like Bonfire of the Damned, I use Mizzium Mortars instead. Bonfire is only good off the Miracle trigger, and Ponza doesn't have a way to manipulate the top of your library. Double {X} is too expensive for my liking. Additionally, Bonfire must target the opponent to work, so if they can prevent that, it's a dead card. You also can't choose a value for the double {X} off Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Mizzium Mortars may not deal damage to the opponent, but it doesn't target when Overloaded, and can be recast off Goblin Dark-Dwellers (though without Overload).

Besides the Bonfire / Mortars thing, which I'll admit is personal preference, I suggest removing Boom // Bust (kind of useless with the rules change), dropping Faithless Looting (this isn't necessary at all), moving Trinisphere to the sideboard (messes up your Goblin Dark-Dwellers plays, but maybe keep one mainboard at most), going up to full 4x Blood Moon mainboard (this is your best turn 2 in Modern). Might also want to work in more finishers. More Inferno Titan and / or Stormbreath Dragon are good.

BTW, Exhume and Animate Dead are not Modern legal. Your best Reanimate cards in Modern are:
Emeria, the Sky Ruin - Requires 7+ Plains, land.
Claim (Claim // Fame) - Limited to cmc 2 or less, 1 mana.
Goryo's Vengeance - Limited to legendary creatures, lasts 1 turn, grants haste, 2 mana.
Footsteps of the Goryo - Lasts 1 turn, does not grant haste, 3 mana.
Whip of Erebos - Reusable, lasts 1 turn, grants haste and lifelink, 4 mana.
Resurrection and Zombify - Unconditional, 4 mana.
Vigor Mortis - Unconditional, can give +1/+1 counter, 4 mana.
Defy Death - Unconditional, gives two +1/+1 counters if reanimating an Angel, 5 mana.
Fearsome Awakening - Unconditional, gives two +1/+1 counters if reanimating a Dragon, 5 mana.
Liliana, Death's Majesty - Reusable, fills graveyard, 5 mana.
Unburial Rites - Unconditional, reanimates twice, 5 mana from hand, then 4 mana off Flashback.

So the average cmc for Modern legal reanimate seems to be about 4 or 5 mana. Cheaper options are available, but they come with restrictions.

There's definitely better reanimate options outside of Standard, but this is built for Standard. The [-3] of Liliana, Death's Majesty also reanimates, so she's a 5 mana reanimate spell, which I'd about par for the course.

I had fun with my 4 colour Titan reanimate deck back when New Phyrexia was Standard legal, using cards like Faithless Looting, Mulch and Merfolk Looter to get Grave Titan or Frost Titan into the graveyard to reanimate with Unburial Rites and using Phyrexian Metamorph to copy the Titans. When I first saw the Gearhulks, I immediately wanted to do that again, so I've been keeping an eye on the available self mill / loot effects and reanimate effects. So far I'm liking this. Can't wait to get what I'm missing so I can run it in paper Magic.

Probably because of how expensive the exchange rate makes this for me (I'm in South Africa), I like to plan ahead. So close to rotation I look at what can be playable after rotation. No point in wasting money on stuff I can't use.

I wouldn't mind attempting a few suggestions for the Gearhulks idea. I'm tinkering on a Mardu Gearhulk deck myself.

"Also personal stuff eating my time." I know that feeling. Among other things, I recently started playing FF XIV. So much time gone...

Snapcaster Mage would be good, let's you recast Sanity Grinding.

One small problem with Archive Trap + Ghost Quarter: the land fetch on Ghost Quarter is optional.

I've never been a fan of Huntmaster of the Fells and Immerwolf being in the same deck. Huntmaster wants to flip a lot, and Immerwolf stops him from doing so.

Sadly I'm missing a large majority of the cards, but I remember MTG Goldfish doing a deck like this. Should be a few games on their YouTube channel.

Devoted Druid + Sigil of the Nayan Gods + Presence of Gond = infinite Elves
Llanowar Elves; Elvish Mystic; Birds of Paradise; and Avacyn's Pilgrim all allow for a turn two Midnight Guard.
Sigil of the Nayan Gods can also pump a BoP, allowing it to attack in the air. It also cycles.
Open the Armory: searches for Presence of Gond.
Commune with Nature "searches" for a creature.
Commune with the Gods "searches" for a creature or enchantment.

I run a similar deck from time to time. My build relies more on Sprout Swarm and creatures that untap themselves. Midnight Guard untaps when the Saproling enters the battlefield; Nettle Sentinel untaps when Sprout Swarm is cast; and Devoted Druid untaps itself with Sigil of the Nayan Gods keeping it alive as Sprout Swarm increases the creature count.

It may take a while to come up with a (hopefully) original idea, but I'll take a crack at this.

Well, most of what I suggested is pre 10th, especially the 3 mana land destruction cards, and will streamline your deck a bit. I only play Standard at FNM, I prefer Modern as most of my collection is Modern legal.

I already run them I'm Standard and Modern. My Standard RW control / midrange deck and my take on Ponza each run 3 Goblin Dark-Dwellers. I own 4 of the alternative art, foiled Goblin Dark-Dwellers :P

Stone Rain, Molten Rain, and Rain of Tears all cost 3 mana and can be recast from the graveyard via Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Fulminator Mage is another 3 mana land destroyer, though it can't be reused with Goblin and can only destroy nonbasic lands.

Crumble to Dust, and Sowing Salt can exile a nonbasic land and then exiles all copies from their hand, graveyard, and library. Good against Urza lands.

Avalanche Riders is a classic land destroying creature.

You going to want some form of board sweep, even if only from the sideboard. Anger of the Gods is awesome because of the exile clause, but Sweltering Suns is good too. Damnation is good, but it's too expensive ($) imo. Bontu's Last Reckoning is the new sweep I'm interested in testing. Languish is great against anything with 4 or less toughness. Anger, Suns, and Reckoning can be recast with Goblin Dark-Dwellers.

For single target removal, your best options are Lightning Bolt and Fatal Push.

As for finishers, there's a lot of options. I'll just list the ones on my radar: Chandra, Torch of Defiance; Stormbreath Dragon; and Ob Nixilis Reignited. The Walkers also double as card advantage, while the Dragon is naturally resistant to a large amount of targeted removal in Modern. Goblin Dark-Dwellers is also a minor threat thanks to Menace.

(yes, I really like Goblin Dark-Dwellers :P )

Locket of Yesterdays. With all that looting, this could be your replacement for Goblin Electromancer / Baral. Just remember that flashback removes the card from the graveyard to put it on the stack, which can affect Locket of Yesterdays and Pyromancer Ascension.

As much as I like Dingus Egg (I have 4 in my folder), I feel it's too slow for what it does. Had it cost 3, entered tapped, and only triggered while untapped, then it would probably see a lot more play. Or if it had some other effects in addition to its triggered ability while remaining at 4 mana, like maybe adding mana. But as it is, with no payoff other than its triggered ability, it just feels too slow.
