In re: ManiacalManiac's comment two posts above:
Never underestimate the power of Gitaxian Probe when you're trying to decide whether to bump your board presence or hold out for some counters/EoT burns. Probe is actually a game winning card in the right deck (like my turbo-chant)

Vexing Devils, however, do not belong in straight up burn; they belong in something with graveyard recursion (that isn't reanimator). I do think, they definitely do not belong in this deck though; your focus should be (I think) instant speed deciding whether or not to counter/control, or to burn, and creature speed burn doesn't fit.

Regarding the deck as a whole: I can build and play competitively when inspired to do so, but that's no fun to me; casual multiplayer is where it's at (for me). Besides a few selections, this looks like quite a good casual deck. Cards like Steam Augury, while perhaps inefficient, emphasize /interactions/ and that's what casual is all about. That said I am also really fond of Gitaxian Probe for the same reason; it's interactive AND effective. You could likely cut Steam Augury to 2-3 to make room for 1-2 Probes, and at least -1 Magus for another.. maybe -1 Serum Visions for a third/fourth.

Regarding those few selections: the only thing I really don't like is seeing three Magus with your land base. I think I'd run one Magus and one Melek only, maybe two of whichever has more impact for you (magus?) ergo dropping at least 1 for a Gitaxian Probe.

A final thought: If you are enabled to invest into this deck, I highly recommend at least two Browbeat. Good interaction, and DAMN STRONG card! IIRC they're about $2 a pop. If you like them I'd get those before getting more Young Pyromancers; wait until they drop from standard first.

Cheers! ^-^

It isn't so much that Purphoros is part of my win-con, but one of. He certainly is the most stable win-con, but I only have two of him, and I'm pretty sure the wife is getting tired of me buying singles now :) Either way, this is basically a red-green combo deck that collapses when one of a few different flavors of cards appear.

Between Iguanar and Untamed Might, both (as win-cons) are prone to removal, and both mesh nicely with other win-cons (Raid Bombardment and Fresh Meat), so I think I'll just switch back and forth as the mood strikes me.

I can't decide between two Hissing Iguanar or two Untamed Might to finish the deck off.

Why yes, it most certainly is :D

I eagerly await a third starfish creature to be printed, so I can make it a proper tribal deck. For now, though, the two starfish we've got are pretty freakin sweet!

I like what you're doing with Pentavus, Mirrorworks, and Tempered Steel. I've been looking around to see what other people are doing with white metalcraft and tempered steel to see if there was anything a little more inspiring than just slapping together another affinity deck; I rather like what you're doing here.

My only criticism is the speed; altogether, this looks really slow. Your early game cards are either Ardent Recruit (which won't have metal craft by the time it matters) and mana myr (which are slow as far as ramp is concerned and won't be threatening since they'll be tapped down for mana). Between those, Jugs, and Crusher, it doesn't really look like you'll be doing.. anything.. until turn 4 at best, turn 5 or 6 on average.

IMHO the mana myr are passable, but Jugs and Crusher should be replaced with something with more early game impact. At the very least Vault Skirge is a good early game drop with potentially strong late game presence.

Cheers! ^-^

Since I live in a tiny casual M:tG world, and Cockatrice /was/ my sole exposure to legacy (grumbledamnithasbrogumble), I can honestly say I've never seen anything like this. Well, Tendrils, but that's not manaless. Plus, this whole deck costs almost as much as just two LEG.

I'd be really tempted to proxy this just for the sheer LOLs, but it's not worth the effort. In my casual meta it'd be played once and only once, because masturbation decks (what a friend calls "solitaire" decks like my retired isochant) are no fun once the "ooh, aah" factor wears off. Nonetheless, I'm tempted to try a dredge deck again; I never quite figured them out :3

@Hokey: How much is your limit, in-re: buying budget decks? I just cloned the "Creepy Crawly" deck I designed for my wife, and took out a few of the more "expensive" cards I own; the price tag is down to just $8, and it's still just as powerful of a starter deck as the version I built for her. That's cheaper than an intro deck ;)

I'm self employed and don't always get to pay myself, so $5 for a card seems expensive to me (I'd rather spend on drink and food ^-^) but I picked up two at $14 a pop. I can't see his price dropping in the long run, but I probably could have waited to find a better deal. Oh well :D

I still need to order Whiteclay offline if I'm going to build this deck proper, though I'm actually brewing up something else atm, which might steal my Athreos away from this deck >.> I'll post a link if the dry runs turn out well.

He's a strong consideration, but I already need to talk my wife into letting me pick up two Athreos (I haven't bought packs since NPH..). I'm trying to keep the budget down, but if I ever get an Erebos he's replacing one of my Arena's for sure. Possibly Maralen the Mornsong to replace the other, even though they're sort of anti-synergy.

I'm intentionally avoiding combos like that because they're cheesy for a casual multiplayer format. We mostly play five star (minus color rules) or two headed giant, and the power struggle is what makes games fun, not "did you have a counter to that? k, gg!" Still a powerful combo, but the above is why I went with Vizkopa over Sanguine Bond.

I was looking at Blood Artist early on, but went with Souls because of how well it works with Vizkopa Guildmage. Testing may change my mind, however; I've never liked that three mana symbol casting cost.

I went with Phyrexian Arena because it's the only cost free, permanent life loss / card draw I have. I was considering Maralen, the Mornsong though. Giving everybody a forced life-cost tutor every turn could make multiplayer games pretty interesting :D

Also, upvoted ;)

Hey, nice deck! ^-^ Thank you, you've inspired the idea that finishes off the WB casual / multiplayer "extort" (tax-ish) deck I've left sitting, half complete. Might be reason enough to convince my wife to let me pick up two Athreos :D

Check it out, if you'd like: http://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/children-of-athreos/

I'm missing some of the fun combo stuff that comes with red. The whole draw a card, discard a card works really well with Whiteclay, and I reaaaally like that! The only thing I can recommend from my deck that might improve yours, are the Springleaf Drums or Paradise Mantle's to tap down Whiteclay and make the activation cost cheaper. Otherwise, what are you doing to tap down Whiteclay besides attacking? Does that work out because of the abundance of double strike / protection?

Cheers!

In the case of utilizing Illusionist's Bracers, I think you'd be better off running a creature with "T: Mill" and focus more on creature activated abilities It would seem like you'd be shifting enablers which better enable a different type of deck (infinite mana, infinite tapdown, infinite counter, infinite damage...), but running a more-complex-than-necessary mill combo just because. That sort of stuff bothers me when I design decks, but maybe I'm just quirky ^-^ It could definitely fit, and fit well with Candelabra, I just think at that point it'd be better off as a slightly different deck.

Also, my bad on Construct. I have a really bad tendency to just miss entire words!

Voltaic Construct, Clock of Omens + 2 artifact lands, Dross Scorpion, Kiora's Follower + Pemmin's or w/e..... Glen Elendra Pranksters + Pestermite... Capsize?.... Yeah, strictly speaking, there IS a better option (Voltaic Construct) but it suffers the same problems as Filigree.

Ah I missed that ^-^ Still doesn't fetch Filigree, but Gamble does. Academy Ruins, perhaps, in case it backfires? Either way, smexy mill deck!

1-2 Fabricate? You have Gamble, but if you have the mana to run the combo (and you can ramp) you have the mana for Fabricate.. which will help for missing pieces without risk of discard, since each Candelabra, Map, and Filigree are equally important.

I have an old all one drop white deck. There's some newer cards that have a place; it could definitely use (and probably will receive) an update, but still check it out for ideas:

There are a few cards I think could really go in this deck.
