Ooh! Also, I've been in love with the discard theme since about when I started playing. This is the latest discard deck I've been running for the past few months, check it out :) http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=151998

Painful Quandary does not have very good synergy with Liliana's Caress. Think of it this way, having 2 or more Liliana's Caress on the battlefield pretty much makes Painful Quandary useless, the opponent is going to lose life regardless so why bother discarding the card? You'll find a lot more synergy in running Liliana's Caress with Bloodchief Ascension or Quest for the Nihil Stone. Having said that, Painful Quandary is still quite a powerful card. I wouldn't recommend dropping it unless you have any of the other cards I mentioned above. (Bloodchief also works awesomely with Horrifying Revelation) Fetch lands in mono black only work well if they're fast (Verdant Catacombs, Marsh Flats, Bloodstained Mire, and Polluted Delta), because they do not disrupt your speed (they do not ETB tapped) and they thin your library for better card draws.. or if you're running Bloodghast, which is amazing battlefield advantage when it returns from the graveyard. Since you're not running Bloodghast, and presumably you do not own any of the fast fetches, it'd be better to just run all swamps. Duress is great if you need to remove threat cards from a specific kind of deck (IE, combatting control) otherwise, Inquisition of Kozilek is almost always a better choice. And finally, I suggest running at least one Mind Sludge Hope this helps ^-^
I appreciate why you're keeping Thrummingbird in. It's not only pseudo-infect, but it also multiplies counters on the player's creatures if they have blocked or have been blocked. With Necropede in the mix, that can be pretty devastating. I was just saying that if you're worried about your mana distribution if you included Inkmoth, then Birds could be a solution. And I was only saying that because I've seen some very sick things come out of U/G Inkmoth. However, if you ever considered it, don't think of buying Birds of Paradise as being /just/ for this deck. It's one of those cards that could literally fit into /any/ green + other color(s) deck you build in the future, too. It's a sound investment regardless :)
90% of the time, I play with people who play an eternal format (or rather, an amalgam of the eternal formats, also known as "casual"), however, sometimes I still build standard legal decks. It adds another challenge to building a casually competitive deck, which can be rewarding in and of itself. Not that it really matters, just saying there can be a point :P At any rate, really liking the changes, all except for one. Might of the Oaks is pretty bomb with infect, but IMO it should be a one of.. one of those cards that if you draw it, grats, but if not then no biggie. The reason I say this is because it's CMC 4, and more often than not you're going to want to be able to cast a creature and still have mana floating for the threat of a buff. You can do that with other 0 and 1 CMC buff spells, but it won't be until late game until you can do that with Might of the Oaks. Simply, it's too slow.
Invigorate is definitely a good idea. Also, if you're apprehensive about running Inkmoth because you're afraid what it might do to your mana base, try replacing Thrummingbird with Birds of Paradise. You'll keep your mana fixed, replace one non-infect creature for another, and have an extra win con after board wipes and the sort. Also, third turn Inkmoth + Groundswell is SICK! 5 poison in the air is like dealing 10 points of damage on the third turn.
The premise looks pretty interesting, but the tempo is way too slow. Slow is becoming the norm in standard, but even in slow match ups, the decks that play something first, second, and third turn are the ones that win. You don't really have much going for you early game. This might run smoother if M12 brings back Fire Whip or Power of Fire.. etc. For now though, I think you should splash either black or green for more early game infect, black would also bring a bit of removal and control, and green would also bring more mana ramp.
Hey! Took me a while to revisit some of my older decks and make replies.. Just in case you forgot, you linked this deck on my absurd infinite combo deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=110435 Nice job taking the absurd out of the combo and making it viable :D This looks like fun to play!
Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'm working towards 4x Marsh Flats, but only have one at the moment. I have too many other projects on my plate to buy any, but if I come past them in trade I'm getting them for sure. I don't think I need 22 lands though, not even 20. 18 seems to work just right for this deck, so any more Marsh Flats will replace Swamps. That may change, I did just add the Vampire Nighthawks and Buried Alive recently, but haven't encountered any problems so far. Demonic Tutor is another one of those cards I don't have, but always on the hunt for. But again, when it comes to purchases, I have a few other things that take priority. For now I'm happy just top-decking Grave Pact. I did run Infernal Tutor, since I can easily empty my hand by turn 3-4, but more often than not it turned into a dead draw once I got my Skullclamps rolling. I'll take a look at your deck too, once my girl stops nagging me for spending too much time on MTG today :P
Btw, link your deck so I can take a peak?
Pretender's Claim would be nice, but I intend to bounce creatures as often as possible. I'll keep that in mind for future renditions though, I often enjoy running aura control decks and that'd be a nice addition to my Narcolepsy + Betrayal combo ^-^ Mana Slug.. did you mean Mana Skimmer? That was in my initial build along with a few Specters, but I decided to go the route of Iso-toolbox because I didn't want a possible alternative win-con. This deck is just for fun, and though it is annoying I've run similar decks before and they're even fun for the opponent.. when they win.. because it's not necessarily hard to do so, but is tricky and rewarding in that sense. Thanks for pointing out Pretender's Claim, though ^_^ I'll have to remember that one for the next time I do purchases.
It's all about enchanting lands with Psychic Venom, Pooling Venom, and Contaminated Ground, and then restricting the mana my opponent has available (early frost) or making them decide what drawbacks to pay their way out of and what damage they can afford to take. It'd be an entirely different deck if I ran white. I also call this my BP Tribal deck ;)
Does nobody scan through previous posts? This deck was build at least by, if not before, Nov 18th 2009. Sorry to spoil the party, but this deck was definitely standard legal when it was built ;)
You mean Mrs. Pyramid Head? :P
I can't really say for sure what is my favorite, but two recent cards that I absolutely loved the art for are Nirkana Revenant and Bloodghast. Also River of Tears, but that's already on the list ;P
Huh. I only meant to be mildly humorous being the comment to give this deck it's 50th like. Turns out I'm a dirty dirty troll. Oh well, jokes on you guys, I guess ;) Look at the first comment before making any more remarks about this not being in standard.
I just wanted to let you know that since this comment will move your deck to the front page, and since the deck is over a year old. . . you might want to change the deck description to "(Used to be) Standard Vampires" :P
That's very doable, and will shut out other control, giving you 14 card advantage every turn. Just beware, Torpor Orb is making it to every sideboard, and you might only get one Stoneforge. If you don't get to fetch or draw Feast and Famine, Jin Gitaxias will be a dead draw.
Torpor Orb will ruin this. You have to sideboard some artifact removal.
I would adjust your side board a bit with more one-of spells. Keep it versatile so you can handle other meta threats, but keep the card count low so you can throw off Extraction. For example, 1x of each of the following: Slagstorm, Lightning Bolt, Dispel, Mental Mistep, Frost & Inferno Titan, Disperse, Turn Aside, Negate, Jace Beleran, Shatter, Crush, Torpor Orb, Isolation Cell, and one other bomb creature for an extra win-con without needing Twin. I also think you should drop the Evolving Wilds for 2 more basic lands, and that's where you could fit 2x Into the Roil in your main deck.
Haha, yeah. I just checked, and am stoked about that ^_^ I grabbed up 4x Splinter Twins when they were cheap, just to make a really, really crappy combo-myr deck. Now I can either build a casual variant of this, or trade em off.. maybe for some fetches ^_^
