Oh yeah, I have a R/B version of this deck that uses Burning Inquiry and Reforge the Soul to draw cards into opponent's hand and then discard them which may cause Liliana's Caress to kill them.

Here's the deck http://www.mtgvault.com/planestalker/decks/rb-modern-waste-not/
Take a look and tell me what you see.

Hi AlucardYagami13,

Thanks for the comments.
In reply to your first question "What happens when the have no more cards to discard?"
Well that's a good time to build to Liliana's Ultimate or to bring out Skithiryx, the Blight and the following turn cast Conflux of Fate.

In reply to to your second question "How are you suppose to return the other 3 creatures to your hand if you have no way for them to?"
Bloodghast only needs landfall to bring it back into play where it can then be sacrificed to Mind Slash to force opponent to lost a chosen card.
Gravecrawler likewise only needs another zombie under your control to allow it to be cast from graveyard back into play where it can then be sacrificed to Mind Slash to force opponent to lost a chosen card.

For clarification:

Example of fight card
Arena
Land
3}, {T}: Tap target creature you control and target creature of an opponent's choice he or she controls. Those creatures fight each other. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)

Pinger card
Pathway Arrows
Artifact — Equipment, 1 (1)
Equipped creature has "{2}, {T}: This creature deals 1 damage to target creature. If a colorless creature is dealt damage this way, tap it."
Equip {2}

Yes the deck has too few mana for the average mana cost of the nonland cards. While your deck does have Nissa's Renewal it doesn't have any mana helpers to get it out early. Personally I'd add 4 Overgrown battlement and add 4 Wall of Blossoms and 1 Hornet Nest to the deck. Take out the 2 Nissa's Renewal and 2 Akoma's Memorial and 4 Daggerback Basilisk. This should speed up the deck. It still won't be a tourney deck, but it will be a nice fun deck.

The only way I can think this deck could become near tourney worthy is to make it an infect deck and add black for tainted strike and some spot removal.

Hi Daggerback5423,

Love the concept of the deck. Why no lure?
Lure
Enchantment — Aura, 1GG (3)
Enchant creature
All creatures able to block enchanted creature do so.

Even more fun is Blaze of Glory or Valor Made Real
Blaze of Glory
Instant, W (1)
Cast Blaze of Glory only during combat before blockers are declared.
Target creature defending player controls can block any number of creatures this turn. It blocks each attacking creature this turn if able.

Valor Made Real English
Instant, W (1)
Target creature can block any number of creatures this turn.

May you always make your own good luck.

Ahh I missed that the +1/+1 from prowess are not counters. Thank you for correcting me.

Hi Inediblepeaches,

Ahhh the dark side. Mono-black evil incarnate. While we both like black the big mistake you're making is not putting your minions to real work. You like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat effects. You gain life and opponent loses life effects. The problem is you don't have a way to make your creatures die repeatedly come back into play.

One way I handle that is use altars. 2 Gravecrawler and a Phyrexian Altar and you can make a gravecrawler repeatly come into play an arbitrarily large number of times. Thus supplying you with an arbitrarily large amount of life and your opponent's death. This also may be done with 2 Myr Retreivers and Ashnod's Altar with the advantage that Myr Retriever can bring back an altar if it is lost to the graveyard.

Here's a deck I make a while back to illustrate the use of altars in a black deck.
http://www.mtgvault.com/planestalker/decks/blood-altar-deck/

But if you really want to screw multiplayers with mono-black. Here are some expert advise that tells how to you can benefit from the power of the dark side. http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/tf49

Hi streetninja,

Fun deck. It seems to be a sort of white ween deck.

May add Winter Orb for a nice nasty surprise to your opponent.

I'm sort of surprised there is no Mother of Runes. Seems everyone loves that cleric.

May you always make your own good luck.

Wow!! Thinker,
This is one crazy rube goldberg machine. I applaud the innovation, but I can't help feel Isochron Spector + Silence or Orim's Chant and Island Santuary is so much easier.
Only thing that I think might help your deck is Phyrexian Reclamation.

May you always make your own good luck.

Hi Sol218 ,

Interesting concept. If your world fire goes off may be you win. If it fizzles due to counterspell more than likely you lose.
Without changing your deck a lot all I could think was adding Boseiju, Who Shelters All or Overmaster to help you fight counterspell.

May you always make your own good luck.

Hi snapcastingbolts,

A deck with a lot of Discard, Counterspell, and touch of white removal may be a way to tear these decks apart.
But yeah stoneblade decks will obviously be tough to beat.

What a fun deck. Probably too slow for tourney, but it might do well in group games.

One of my favorite combos with genesis chamber is 2 myr retriever + ashnod's altar (could also use Krark-Clan Ironworks, but why spend the two extra mana?)

The only things I see the deck sort of needs is mana acceleration and some combo protection. Maybe reduce some of your 4 ofs to three and add some pyretic rituals.

May you always make your own good luck.

I count five cards that create +1/+1 counters
Abbot of Keral Keep, Den Protector, Heir of the Wilds, Monastery Swiftspear, Shaman of the Great Hunt

With

Hardened Scales
Enchantment, G (1)
If one or more +1/+1 counters would be placed on a creature you control, that many plus one +1/+1 counters are placed on it instead.

Your creatures get to keep counters and grow stronger over time.

I'm suggesting you should add it to your deck. May be try it in place of lightning Berzerker.

Hi nilleh,

I'm not much up on Legacy Red/Green Aggro, but with all those +1/+1 counters you're making in the deck you might try adding Hardened Scales.

May you always make your own good luck.

Hi Umoonpuca,

Oh my gosh how did Ember shot not get put in any of the lists of worst cards?

In comparison even the follow cards look good that do the same thing as Ember Shot for less mana.

Withstand
Instant, 2W (3)
Prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn.
Draw a card.

and

Orcish Cannonade
Instant, 1RR (3)
Orcish Cannonade deals 2 damage to target creature or player and 3 damage to you.
Draw a card.

But is Ember shot strictly speaking worst than Thermal Blast or Scorching Spear?

Well..., Thermal blast costs 5 and only hits creatures and it doesn't offer a card back in return for playing the piece of crud. So I really have to say Thermal Blast is effectively more useless than Ember shot.

Now is Ember Shot more useless than Scorching Spear? Yeah I'd have to agree with you. But I made this deck to have the appearance of a typical deck with cards that are not too over costed. Anyone can throw a bunch of cards that are way over costed. Hell I could of made the deck totally useless just by putting in land of all the wrong mana color. But the joke of this deck is you could play most ever card in this deck and you still would be hardly any threat to your opponent the cards are that bad. I'm particularly proud that Great Wall cancels out Aysen Highway a more useless waste of mana I would be hard to put to find.

Anyway Umoonpuca, I agree Ember shot is really, really bad but if you think about it Thermal Blast is even worst.

Thanks for the input.

Nah, surewhynot, you're not that old.
You still make decks that are young, fresh and vigorous.

And heck, I found a deck dating back to 2006.
Kirin Deck
by Gen - Created on Saturday, 29 July 2006

Now that's old.... but still not as old as when I started Magic way back in November 1994 and Fallen Empires.

WOW!!! Me too. It's an honor just to be here.

Though I'm pretty sure there are other "Budget" decks posted even earlier.
(Budget Ghost Dad Created on Saturday, 29 July 2006 is the earliest I could find)

NorthernWarlord, you have made an impressive number of good budget decks. And with over 1,000 some decks posted you are a credit to deck builder's everywhere.

This very nice casual Modern Red/Black Deck and I wish you the best.
