The Gideon Jura +2 with Annex works exactly as you're thinking... unless the opponent can somehow prevent those creatures from being eligible attackers (tapping, etc.), they MUST attack. The opponent better hope they're playing white! Mwaha.

I like it. Glad I inspired some additional brewing.

I always do 61 now. Started a long while back when I just couldn't trim my favorite deck down that last card to get to 60. *shrug* Just kind of my thing now. :-) Good luck with the 'walker deck... let me know how it goes!

Thanks... I think those are all fine suggestions. Playtesting has shown that I don't really need the scry from Justice, so I think Ancient Grudge is a good call. I'll have to play around with removal ideas... Firespout is a good call. I'll make some tweaks after I playtest a bit more. Thanks for the review!

Any and all suggestions on how to improve this are welcome. I'm concerned about the draw/ping balance. Since I can't go for Black Vise like I can in Legacy, are Ebony Owl Netsuke and Skullcage appropriate, and are they enough?

Hmmm...in the sideboard for now, but I suspect that or something similar may need to be squeezed into the main.

Oooo, good one! I'll find room for it.

Eh, I don't know about that. Chief powers out SDE faster, but most other artifacts are all cheap (or free!) already....

Yeah, I thought long and hard about SDE but left it out in the end. I suppose I should toss at least a pair in there.

Kurkesh's primary combo is with the Land Mines...but that may not be enough.

I'll move some Revokers into the main.

Thanks!

Any and all constructive feedback welcome. I'm sure there are better cards to use here (well, probably), but I wanted to get the discussion started. Let's build this together!

Well then it probably makes sense. Got to plan for your play environment.

The only worry I'd have is hitting your own Brain Maggots, especially without Athreos out yet, but that may be a necessary evil if you're staring down a bunch of aggro decks.

Have you considered Thoughtseize as a workaround for that? I love Maggot, but Seize MIGHT make more sense here.

Yep, lots of good interactions here. I've had loads of fun with Whip and Gary, and love the potential of Unraveler and Master of the Feast.

Do you find 3 Drowns to be too much in main, or does that tend to work out for you? I've had a hard time getting the main/sideboard balance right with it.

I may have to if it continues to be a problem...probably Bile Blight would be my first choice. Just concerned about thinning down what the deck is really trying to do, but it's not much good if it gets overrun before it can get going!

I've been toying with the idea of Caustic Tar, for obvious reasons, but it's so expensive (4BB). If I tried to squeeze a couple in (main or sideboard), what should I cut to make room?

Ah, well I didn't even know of the Tribal format until you pointed it out. (I've since looked it up.) I have over 60 decks tagged that way across various formats, and as you said, tons of folks on here use the tag to indicate a deck with a tribal element rather than the Tribal Wars format. Perhaps look for "Tribal Wars" instead?

Yeah, I thought about that after the fact. Hmmm...I'll come up with something.

Well, initial testing shows that I need some help in the early turns. Maybe it's because I faced a TON of aggro, but I kept getting too far behind before things could get going. Also, multiple times, I ended up with a pair of Faeries in my hand and wasn't able to play them because I couldn't get any other creatures to stick.

That all being said, once I DID get past the first few turns, it was as annoying (for the opponent) as I imagined. Quickling is an all-star against burn, kill spells, and aggro as long as I have another creature to swap it with. The Squid do indeed get out of hand given a few turns, though I may cut one Obelisk, as it's a real tempo killer to draw one or more early (or start with them in hand!).

I'll tweak it a little and make changes above in a few minutes.

...huh? This is a Modern deck. It just happens to have a tribal aspect to it. Wizards doesn't penalize Modern decks for running a tribal theme.

Oh, and on that topic: Silverback Ape IS Modern-legal according to Wizards. For some reason this site, which is typically way ahead of the game, missed that it was also printed in Eighth Edition. Just FYI!

Sadly haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but I hope to tonight. I think it could do quite well!
