Maybe I should save this deck for free-for-all games when I play with somebody else. This would save us a lot of headaches ... :P

But your response "Never played that way.
Sounds very interesting! "
Sounded as if you mentally skipped that^^

Anyway, we stopped playing free-for-alls a long time ago specifically because it always means players ganing up on the current top dog which translates into everybody avoiding being the top dog which in turn means everybody plays defensively, and combo-ish. And that translates into boring games.
If you are 5 players, Pentagram and French Emperor (or "Peasant Rebellion" how we call it) are the best formats, by far.

Shred Memory:
It's a pity that all transmute cards for cc3 suck so much ... although exiling stuff is sometimes crucial. Hm.

Night Dealings:
That's an interesting card, have never seen this before! Have to trade for it, though. But I like that, coukd see it in a lot of decks.

Pit Spawn:
Yes, rhouoght of that, but he will probably be way out of the mana curve. Could add him as a "boss" type of card - I usually like to have 1 or 2.

Vein Drinker:
Could work well! Have for trade for it, too.

(Barbed) Shocker:
Way too risky and pointless. You do not really want to give my buddies fresh hands for no reason.

Mudbutton Torchrunner:
That's too cute and harmless even for me :)

Power of Fire:
I consider Arcane Teachings (it's in the sideboard) and would play that over Power of Fire.

About removal spells ... what about Death Pits of Rath? If I have that, a single ping kills. And with the staff ... I kill everything! My creatures will die from anything, too, however.

Don't add white. Because if you would, then there was no need to build this deck - Sunblast Angel would replace him.

Erm, Jessie, did you read the description and comments? I explained in detail how Pentagram works and that we always play Pentagram. This is crucial for this deck because it actually makes things complicated.

About overload:
As I understand it, if I pay for overload, the copies will have overload, too. This ... means ... KABOOOM! I mean ... a simple Electrickery will act like a Wrath of God, dealing 20 damage to each creature in a Pentagram game - for 3 mana!
Unfortunately, there is no other overload spell that would be useful in this. But if I want to explode some brains, I could include Counterflux, just for the lols :)

I am waiting for Thassa to rotate out of Type II and to hopefully drop in price.

You could also use Preferred Selection which is dirt-cheap moneywise and a solid filter card, however, 4 mana to get going is maybe too much.

Misthollow Griffin - I would play him alongside Force of Wills and Misdirections.

Erm ... you guys got carried away pretty fast, do you?^^
This is a mono-black deck that has to stay mono-black because it is basing on Soot Imps and Urborg Stalkers!
I just said I prefer my creature removal to exile its target because reanimation and recycling is VERY common (almost a necessity).

Bosk Banneret:
Yeah, but my shamans aren't exactly expensive. Also I don't know yet how many shamans the deck will have. I'll consider him if the deck turns out to be heavy with shamans.

Hostility:
I won't have room for burn spells, I will do most damage with "pinging" effects and the tricks the creatures offer. Hostility only works with spells. I do have zero spells.

Rage Forger:
Might work depending on the shamans I use. I need creatures (shamans) that trigger an effect when damaging opponents. Added to sideboard.

Burning Tree Shaman:
Erm, no - I'd kill myself if I play this guy :)

not yet - you'd need a fourth person, someone who is really competitive and still attends tournaments of all formats (I stopped doing so around Scourge)

Of course Northy is a valueable resource and vital for this site, he surely hit a nerve with his decks. He is just flooding the site a tad bit and sometimes the decks lack quality - but still get all the attention because it's Northy. Which is okay if his followers would still check out other contributer's work but you know as it is, attention span and willingness to contribute yourself is limited and usually expended after commenting on Northys decks - at least thats the case for most users here.
So, I just think Northy would do everybody including himself a favour if he slowed down a bit and worked a bit longer and harder on the decks he does release. But that's just an opinion, he can and should still do what he likes to, of course.

I still say, the "unloved" list should be the default view. People will flock to the "hot" tab anyway.

And, yes, Jessie, you are innovative to the max indeed, I spotted a great influx of yours, both in quantity and quality. I especially like that you are now building your decks systematically and documenting each step, writing down your thought process and decision making. This, in turn, is valuable for any aspiring deck builder.

Not necessarily. A lot of those budget decks are just a bunch of cheap cards thrown together with a vague theme. MANY of them, including Northies, look as if he made a quick database search for a keyword, took the cheapest cards among the results, then added some basic lands and staples. That's not any more innovative than filling decklists with the usual expensive staples.

I'd rather keep the bliss and ditch the Rest for the Weary. Other than that, looks better now.

Yes but the idea was to copy and steal stuff. It's no regular Oath deck where I use Oath to get the fatties - your suggestions would work there. But in this one I want my opponents to Oath and the use their creatures against them.

Ugh? Me or Jessie? I don't think I will add blue to this deck.

Your win condition is indeed "hazy". No matter how big your Pridemate is, a single regenerator, indestructible creature or something like that blocks him for all eternity. This deck needs a finisher of sorts, I just can't come up with something decent (Type II isn't my cup of tea). Something like Master Warcraft. I don't know if something comparable exists in Type II.

Ahem ... Archangel of Thune! Why didn't you suggest THAT guy for my Life is Life deck!? ;) That guy is awesome - not only does he combo with basically my entire deck, he also has flying!

Okay, about *this* deck ...

* You run zero removal. I don't know about the decks you are playing against but in my playgroup you would run into problems. Every deck has some nasty things going on, many of them basing on artifacts or enchantments, and if you aren't able to remove those, having tons of life won't help much, it will only prolong your suffering. I strongly recommend to swap Rest of the Weary for Solemn Offering.

* I would upgrade Soulmender to one of the following:
- Ghost-Lit Redeemer
- Oracle of Nectars
- Jasmine Seer

* Consider Auspicious Ancestor instead of the Staffs. You won't gain life for Plains anymore but those 3 life when he dies should make up for it and he can attack/block. Also, if you remove the Staffs, your opponent's artifact removal will have no targets.

* There is room for improvement regarding non-basic lands. I would at least consider Secluded Steppe.

I don't know, I just forgot deathtouch ... maybe precisely because it's overdone. Otoh, that's why I make these decks public, sometimes you need somebody to point out the obvious.
Overdone or not, I recently obtained 2 Basilisk Collars and therefore gonna use them.

and agreed on the Rakka Mar thing, I am moving it from sideboard (ideas) to main now.
