Trust me, if you test this, or play against a deck that uses 2-3 Archangel of Thune in a similar conception of creatures, you'll know how good it is even with only 1 other creature, that's not too small :) ...actually it's better than if you use her in an aggro, or token deck... ...but just to make it a bit better for the Angel, I put in 1 Assemble the Legion... ...I might find a way to put in a 2nd of that.......Imagine having a Demon & an Angel out, deal damage with the angel & cast Helix at the same turn, or may be Whipe of Erebos is there & the Demon also has lifelink... ...both the Demon & the Angel get so big, you'll probably end the game within 2 turns...In this deck, it's not rare when I have 3 creatures out & 1 is Thune... ...the opponent than will need a wipe at least - & this is a control deck with only big creatures - or else, he/she'll lose... ...sometimes, the opponent is in the same situation when I only have 2 creatures out & that's not a rare site either.......I know this looks a little irrelavent, but ingame, it's all different... ...I've seen how Thune works in these kind of decks, I've studied those deck constructions & I've made the 1st ever R/B/W version... ...I think so far this is the strongest combination... ...tough I haven't played it against players with USA & Esper control decks that uses Thune... ...this week, at the store I play most of the time(highly competative place), on FNM, 3 players used these decks(2 USA & 1 Esper control)... ...the USA control decks finished 4th & 6th place out of 28... ...I donno' about the Esper, but I remamber it had more wins than losses.......

I'm a big elf player :) ...I've played elves when it was legal around 2000-2001, I've played them when Zendikar & Scars of Mirrodin were legal in standard...This deck is nice... ...tough elf decks need drawpower to be resellient against decks with a strong set of removal, pherhaps wipes...Here is my version of the modern G/B elf deck that isn't really token orientated: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/evening-in-llanowar/
True... ...& it happened a couple of times, when my friend used this deck on FNM... ...but 75% of those times, he came back with draw spells & lifegain, than suddenly rebuilt his board game... ...this deck is supposed to do just that & it works even better, than I thought... ...tough I still consider using Familiar in the sideboard.......I started to remamber, when Zendikar were standard, that with Lead the Stempade alone, I could come back 2-3 times after a wipe(if I couldn't defend with Ezuri)... ...even when the opponent used 2-3 All is Dust at a game, I could still win... ...& so as I remambered this, I've built this deck... ...it's just a little slower & lower on Devotion than usual mono blue aggro, but it's way more resellient & I'd say better, tough it's still not 100% complete.......It finished 3rd at may be the most competative store in Middle-Europe on FNM... ...a friend of mine used it & he only lost to a Jund midrange-control deck very similar to mine(1-2)... ...I also went to the same FNM & toke 1st place with my Esper deck... ...I've defeated the Jund guy(2-0) tough I've got lucky at game 1.......Anywayes, I'll somehow add 2-3 Familiar to the sideboard, but I won't take out Raptor from the main deck, since it could get really big with Master of Waves... :)Thanks!
I've already been to FNM today, since I'm in another time zone :)I've toke this deck myselfe: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/merciless-verdict-serenity/...& I gave my friend this1 & we went to the same store: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/master-of-revelations/I've finished 1st place(thanks to Merciless Eviction - if a play the 2nd & it resolves, it's almost a guarentee I'm gonna' win)...My friend finished 3rd... ...this is a resellient Master of Waves deck that has a little white in it, but against a very well constructed Jund control deck, that used Golgari Charm & Anger of the Gods as sideboards(very similar to my own Jund control) could deal with it...Good luck for tonight! You'll probably do ok with this deck... :)
It's better now... :)On 2nd thought, I'd rather drop Chandra & add a 3rd Bones along with a 3rd Boros Charm mainboard...
Right... ...right... ...it's a static ability... ...I've been forgetting stuff reacently :) ...the 5 months I've been out of playing sure leaved it's mark :)
I know I usually gonna' have Thune with only another creature, but it's more than enough... ...have you seen MTG worlds? ok... ...it was the previous chapter of standard, but 1 of my hungarian countryman played USA control & only with Angel of Thune & a Staticaster, he did amazing things... ...tough, he drew unluckily in the finals.......In my store & also other I play in, players usually have 2-3 Thune in their control decks(often USA, or Esper control)... ...& it works out great... ...even in this deck, it kicks ass & it buyes you time to set up a finisher, if not finishes the game itselfe... ...Thune is actually better in a control deck with multiple biggies, than in an aggro.......I'll take out Chandra, as you suggested, also 1 Bones & a 3rd card is required for the 3 Reckoner... ...than I can take more adventage out of Thune, 'cuz with Reckoner, it's awesome!.. :)
Should I take out Chandra, 1 Read the Bones & 1 Dragon for 3 Boros Reckoner?..
Here is my version of the R/B/W control... ...it's quite different, it has a higher mana curve & it's a little more control orientated:http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/council-of-angels-villians/I think it's yet to reach it's final form, so suggestions are wellcome...
I like that list of youres... ...very well balanced... ...I just think that you don't have enough lifegain for Blood Baron, tough it's still a strong card... ...I 'd cut the Shocks from the sideboard as well as 1 Lifebane & replace them with 1 more Mizzium Mortars & 2 Boros Charm.......I'd like to see this in action... ...so far, I've seen Archangel of Thrune in action quite a lot, but never along with Blood Baron... ...I think I'd be a strong combination as well as Helix in the deck, plus Obzedat & such... ...Whip of Erebos is really good in this, since it gives lifelink to your creatures, thus assisting Baron & it can bring back Baron from the grave, may be as a 10/10 haste creature, & it also make Baron & Thrune have double-lifelink....... :)I was thinking on making a deck like this & I might do just that...
Very nice idea! This will be competative with a few adjustments...Using 4 Doom Blade mainboard is a little risky... ...you can't sideboard in game-1, so if you go up against mono-black, or something of the sort, you'll have 4 dead cards...I'd use 2 Doom Blade, 3 Magma Jet, 4 Desecration Demon... ...3 Hero's Downfall, no Rokdos's Return mainboard, & 3 Read the Bones...Playing white just for the sideboard 2 Boros Charm ain't worthit.... ...may be you should consider Chained to the Rocks...I really do like the basic idea!
Snakerunners... ...your comments contain the most information & effort, so I honestly thank you for that! :)I use Quicken, 'cuz there is nothing to replace it & in mid/late-game, it's awesome with both Verdict & Anger, even with Mortars... ...it's important at times to destroy the creature(s) your opponent cast in his/her fallowing turn, right after you's cast a wipe at your turn, so Quicken is really an underestimated card... ...I also like it as an early-game draw, even if it's just a 1 mana draw a card, 'cuz it still shortens the deck & takes me closer to have everything I need within the game.......Magma Jet is effective against aggro decks, for example, it can kill off Voice of Resurgence immediately, if it won't get stronger...I want to use 2 Jace & I was thinking about dropping a Revelation, 'cuz with 24 lands, it might be better...I consider using Detention Sphere in the main deck, 'cuz my opponent won't use any enchantment removal at the 1st game(if not Abrupt Decay), but he/she will sideboard some, so I'd toke it out before game-2... ...you're right, I have to have cards also in the main deck that could deal with gods...I'll be thinking on how to insert Elspeth to the main deck... :)Thanks again!
Anger of the Gods is the best idea!.. ...you can run 2 mainboard & 1-2 sideboard, or 3 mainboard & may be 1 sideboard... ...depending on the whole construction of the deck.......25 land is perfect, you don't need more, it just might screw up your late-game... ...may be if you ren 4 Revelatins, than 26 lands would be justified...What I'd take out(I donno' why haven't I said it be4) is Helix... ...I'd definiately replace it with Anger of the Gods...Chained to the rocks... ...it's temporarly, but effective... ...the opponent will have medicine for it in the sideboard, if not a couple of Abrupt Decay mainboard... ...it's a powerful card & at first I used it in my USA control, but I've realized I don't need it... ...sure it can deal with gods, but you've given me the idea of Turn // Burn & that is not temporarly, even if 4 mana higher the cost, it's worthit, especially in a control deck, the cost matters lesser than in other types of decks... ...Detention Sphere is better & enough in place of Chained to the Rocks I think... ...but you have both, so the opponent won't have enough medicine, I guess... ...this is another good strategy....... :)Another thing... ...I'd change the Guildgates for basic islands... ...than you'd have 13 lands that could produce blue mana, 14 red & 13 white, so it's enough(13 of the most common color & 12 of the other two is fine) & more lands will enter untapped...
It's exactly how you're saying it, Snake :) ...Pro-tours set the example of wich type of decks are the most competative & after that, even amature players can evolute them... ...Like when Hayne won Pro-Tour Avacyn with Azorius control, we've realized, that USA control will be way stronger, if built correctly... ...now I suspect, that players will be more alert for mono-blue & all the other type of decks that made it to the top 8 of the latest pro-tour & carry medicine for each of them in the sideboard.......The most competative decks alwayes come after thr pro-tours(in the following 2-3 months)... ...then in 3-4 months a new set comes out & the landscape changes a bit... ...but than, there won't be rotation, so the best decks will be recognized faster, than they were after the 1st set of Theros came out.......I've changed my USA control deck a little & I still feel like it's incomplete, tough it playes out well... ...I need some tips, how could I make it even more stabil & how should exactly the sideboards look like... ...I'm thinking about using Elspeth mainboard.......Pre-thanks for the help: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/revelations-will-end-serenity/
True, Trollking... ...sometimes you need 8-9 mana, especially, 'cuz there isn't much creatures in this deck & so the opponent can keep his/her removal for mid/late-game... ...tough my experience is, that if I play control, they just sideboard some of their creature-removal out... ...there were still times, when I needed 8 mana to protect AEtherling, but usually when I start finishing the match, I have about 9-12 mana, depending on how resellient the opponent's deck is for all my wipes, 'cuz if it is resellient, than I can not linger forever waiting for the treats to come....... :)
Look... ...I can see this deck work, but I have a different method at making decks & it payed off at every "chapter" of standard... ...you might say "bad cards", 'cuz "pro"-s does not use them & they are not working too well against certain decks... ...but if you look at the whole concept, than you can see that my control decks has medicine for everything, mostly mainboard, but the sideboard is still important as well... ...I may have a hard time against certain types of decks with the main deck, 'cuz I'll have cards that doesn't work too well, but there are alwayes enough that works.......What pros using is not alwayes the best... ...they haven't thought of some variations... ...I'm not just dropping decks togeather carelessly here... ...& I can see you neither... ...the difference is that you fallow those tips that worked out for pros & change it a bit & I sometimes do the same, sometimes do something entierly different & usually the latter is better... ...not alwayes tough.......I admit, that I don't have a perfectly clear view on standard yet right now, since I've been out of MTG for about 4.5-5 months, or so(I stopped little after M14 came out)... ...I reacently watched Pro-Tour Theros & it surprised me how good mono decks are right now...Moose, if you have thoughts about my decks, just comment, I'm interested in what you have to say, as there are things I'm noz aware of now...Thanks!
...you are right about AEtherling... ...2 is enough, so I'm gonna' use the 2nd Serenity mainboard...
My experience is: pro-tours are usually not the place where you see the most competative decks... :)...tough, now that I'm looking at this deck, I donno', if you've changed it since I've looked up on it, but it looks better... :)I remember a high mana curve, but now it doesn't look like it... ...I still think, that 24-25 lands are more suitable for decks like these with more drawpower, so you'd have both spells & lands you need...This looks competative anyway... ...even tough it's not my style... ...I like to make the "control" in control infinite & it's alwayes working....... :)
Mr. Moose... ...1st of all: the mana curve & count are may be fine now, since he adjusted it... ...having 3 finishers(1 of each) isn't enough, 'cuz you gonna' suffer against deck with even a medium set of removal...I know how Memory Adept works as a sidebord, it's the same method they're using it since RTR came in... ...I'm just saying that there are better options for it's spot... ...especially 'cuz it could easily be destroyed these dayes... ...also, they only use it against control & in late-game & that time, it's very easy to counter it.......There are good early-game draw spells, like Quicken(I like to use it both early game & mid/late game to assist sorcery wipes, like Verdict, or Anger of the Gods), there is Azorius Charm, wich Trollking's using... ...but it's true, that for USA control, that's it.......The last 1.5 lines you wrote... ...unnesesarry... ...& you can't be fairly sure of something you have no conviction of... ...I know clean journelism, so I know not to write critiques that ain't at least 98% true... ...even if I'm from a different country than you, it's the same everywhere... ...this was you being totally biased, 'cuz your friend got a negative critique.......If I don't understand the format, I wouldn't do well at several FNM-s, GP-s, etc. since 1999... ...I'm playing FNM in 4 different cities within my country & even abroad about once in 3 weeks... ...I've been off for about half a year tough.......
You have a point... ...it's logical... ...tough I've tested this deck & it works well against both aggro & other control decks... ...only, against control, I need to sideboard after game-1...I alwayes draw what I need in time, since I have very strong drawpower here... ...& if Verdict does not work, I'd just use Eviction... ...about 95 times out of 100, I can cast an Eviction within the 1st 8 turns of the game... ...that's enough, 'cuz Azorius Charm, Cyclonic Rift & Hero's Downfall until than.......When the opponent playes Boros Charm &/or Rootborn Defences it's a bother for Verdict & Downfall, but it won't alwayes happen', I just have to prepare for it in the early game... ...that time, I sideboard all Negates, so I can back up Verdict(I alwayes get my 6th mana in turn 5, or 6)... ...Riot Control is basically for fast aggro decks & when I have that, I alwayes have enough time to take control.......AEtherling could be played, when you have 7 lands, you don't need 8... ...it's enough to be able to protect it for 1 the turn you cast it...Thanks for your comment! I understand your doubts, but I've tested this deck in 2 stores now & it works... :)...tough, I'm not taking it to FNM...
