FYI: [Nadaar, Selfless Paladin] is a sweet card for Dungeon decks!
And so is [Acererak the Archlich]

I've made a similar dungeon deck for Standard: https://www.mtgvault.com/tinytone/decks/venture-into-the-dungeon/

Just thought I'd share my thoughts on a comment you made:

"Burn is another thing, which I'm not completely sure if it's a good deck for a first-timer to play"

Whenever teaching a new friend to play magic, I always give them a pre-made burn deck. I think for new players getting an introduction into magic - a classic burn deck works quite well.

Reasons for why I like using a red burn deck as an intro deck:
- The cards are simple. Most of the cards are "deal X damage to a creature or opponent". The new player can then decide where they want to focus their burn spells (creatures or the opponents health).
- Games take about 5-10 minutes - a good length when it comes to magic as it give new players a decent taster for the game.
- Fewer mechanics: Fewer mechanics are good. Less of a learning curve. Things such as Regeneration, Menace, Deathtouch, LifeLink... can overwhelm new people. Red decks tend to have less mechanics than other decks - which keeps it nicely and simple. (Disclaimer: massive generalization here when it comes to red decks and mechanics - but you get the gist right? ;) )

And finally : "Red deck wins" !

There's nothing better than playing magic with a new player, and actually trying to beat the fricken RDW deck... and you can't since the deck is so good, it just plays itself ;)

ah man - who doesn't love a mutavault! SUCH a good card!! Especially when you have cards that say "this creature gets +1/+1 for for all rats/elementals/zombies/etc". Mutavault is SOO good for increasing that total as it can tap itself to animate itself to push that "buff" increase up by 1. Love it!

Hehe - true story. I've played against this deck myself... and it's a tough cookie to crack as it shuts you down pretty quick. It's pretty decent too against control decks, as they're waiting to counter your spells, and instead you're creating an army of pack rats. If they don't have a board sweep card (e.g. Supreme Verdict, or Day of Judgement)...they're toast!

Hey buddy,

Great comments! I really appreciate the feedback. It's always good to get some advice on how to tweak and better the decks :)

I'm keen on keeping [[Phyrexian Crusader]] in the deck for a number of reasons:
- It destroys red and white decks as they can't deal with him due to him having protection from red/white.
- Early on, even though I may not be pursuing the Infect route, he's still a great blocker. Due his first strike nature, and dealing -2/-2 counters... he can effectively kill 1 and 2 toughness creatures and still able to block 3/3's (as he'll reduce them down to 1/1's in his first strike phase.
- Late game - he becomes even more of a threat, as after you've equipped a +4/+4 [[Batterskull]] equipment onto it, he effectively becomes a 6/6 first strike, infect, vigilance, life link with protection from red and white! NASTY! This is a BEAST of a card to deal with.
- Throw in a [[Lashwrithe]] equipment too, and this guy is battering the opponent down each turn as he attacks for lethal (10+ infect counters) each turn.
- Keeping track of different health and infect counters isn't an issue with paper magic or a biggie either ;)
- Granted, this isn't an infect deck, so why is he in here - but that's ok right? His other qualities still make him a nasty card to deal with that can really mess red and white decks around.
- In summary, you're right... the synergy is missing when it comes to pure infect... but his presence in this deck still makes it uncomfortable for your opponents - especially when you beef him up later with some heavy equipment.

[[Vampire Nighthawk]]:
- What a GREAT card!! I love this card and glad you mentioned him. He has everything: Lifelink, deathtouch, Flying!
- Have you considered his slightly better upgraded counter part: [[Nighthawk Scavenger]] ?
- It has the same abilities as the Vampire Nighthawk, but has the potential to be a bigger, harder hitter.

T.

True story - I'm "documenting" all my "locked standard" decks onto MTG Vault. After rotation, I try not to tweak the decks any more and keep them in a locked state.

I remember the headache that Thragtusk used to cause a few years back and how many people were happy to see the back of him post rotation.

2012 - happy days ;)

Nice deck!! I especially like the synergy around swamps! At first I was dubious about the Wayfarer's Bauble, (thinking that instead a shambling ghast would also work nicely)... but then you convinced me (after reading your description).

I have a similar deck that I created a few years back featuring Lashwrithe: https://www.mtgvault.com/tinytone/decks/obliteration/

I wonder how these 2 beasts would fare if pitted against each other ;)

Hey buddy!

Cheers for the infos and for the warm welcome back.

You're right - I haven't been on here for a while, but I plan to add a bunch of new decks that I've created over the last 18 months, as well as go back and fill in the missing descriptions, tags and how to play.

Watch this space ;)
