Did you know about the war between designers and censors ?
I think the lead censor or the ikoria designteam gets fired for this.

Probably because they are mostly a male team, fondling all these cards with big breasted babes never able to catch the real thing ;)

Few know it, but there is an ongoing game between card designers and censors.
The carddesigners try to smuggle indecency past the censors,
And the censors try to find indecencies and send cards back for a return.

The whole mutate series of cards were probably meant as a joke to be caught by the censors. The mechanic in itself, putting one creature on top of another is a giant hint to this.

Take necropanther it's a wordplay on necro panter.
Porcuparrot is a contraction of pork and cuparate.

All of the mutate animals have sexual puns, except for those caught by the censors.
Some are more subtle, trumpeting gnarr is one creature on top of another, trumpeting.

I think you could use the concept of skirk prospector in a better way.
Part of your plan is to go "warren"
Some of the manaaccel could be replaced by storing mana in creatures too.
Wild cantor does almost the same as skirk, and there are other creatures out there that supports the theme.
There an r/g r/g that gives you two mana when it hits play, and a 2r that adds rrr when played. These creatures are all able to replace their own mana, and they count towards storm as well. Add manamorphose, add mutagenic growth
And you might even make it more aggro than combo.
I can even see glimpse instead of distant melody.
Turn 1, land + skirk or cantor,
Turn 2, land + consider your best move, to storm or to buildup.
To storm, sac the skirk/cantor to play another building up storm. Cast manamorphosis, cast the r/g r/g shaman, cast seething songs, cast Warren.
To build up sac the skirk/cantor, cast glimpse, cast and sac any other skirk/cantor, cast manamorphose, cast seething storm, cast lots of the r/g r/g or 2r while drawing into stuff, and whoa, is that goblin Warren's? Play it ;)

Shared discovery fits into plan 2.
In general plan 2 will be primary.

You can cut 3-4 types of rituals for this plan, but keep seething song.

Clearly this calls for some interesting abilities.
I'd say that I'd play this on top of a scragnoth, or a vexing shusher any day.

That said it is also a way to "kill" your own creatures, so having 4 vadrok in a deck would mean killing 4 creatures, and vadrok would get in the way of himself being a legend.

That mutate doesn't merge the traits of both creatures is a little sad. I guess witch's knowledge about the "birds and the bees" is limited to getting on top :p

Considering you got no upvotes, people probably haven't seen the interaction between wirewood symbiote and glimpse.
It's not a beginners deck. Tapping gaea's
Cradle before bouncing with the symbiote is a real nice idea.

I've taken a look at legacy lists.
A huge portion of what's there is also in modern in a milder form,
So you can actually start by "just defeating modern" if you have the testdecks.

Adnauseam, burn, death's shadow, dredge, eldrazi-tron, elfcombo, goblins, izzetstorm, jund, merfolk, zombie-treasurehunt

I'd suggest you pick a few testdecks to start with.

Death's shadow: will test your decks ability to deal with the graveyard, big fast creatures and discard.

Infect: will test your ability to block and play counter spells.

Burn: will really test your deck if you try to be aggro.

Elfcombo: will test your removal and counter spells.

Merfolk: will test your removal, counters and blockers.

There's a common fetchland. Evolving Wilds.
It can support searing blaze.

Unless you have some quality cards, or he has junk, the safe bet is burn ;)
