Spire Owl is look at top 4 and stack them. 4 is deep, deep search!
Augury Owl does a scry 3. Some would say 3 is less than 4 BUT being able to put any of those 3 on the bottom of your library could be better than Spire Owl. Plus there are other cards that react/combo with scry too.

Still like the Spire Owl better!

It goes against the theme...but have you considered Orcish Lumberjack? Or the green or red Spirit Guides?
Simian Spirit Guide or Elvish Spirit Guide.

Something like Turn 1. Play Mountain. Play Lumberjack. Play Elvish Spirit Guide and then play Llanowar Elves.
Turn 2. Play a Forest. Tap your Forest and Mountain for 2 mana. Sack a forest to Lumberjack for 3 more mana. Tap Elves for 1 more mana.
Turn 2 you have 6 mana.

Ready for another Saga card? I like Spire Owl over Augury Owl.

I run Howling Mine...but yeah, for these types of decks, Anvil is better. Probably need to change my Mines over to the Anvils.

You knew because you must of seen one of my rants on Urza's Saga?
It rocks!

Yes, Torpor Orb...I recently found out about that card too. Very nasty stuff you can do with it. It costing 2 mana rocks, as well!

Only thing I feel iffy (but if you and your friends have been beat down with it, it works) about the above deck is the having to have 2 copies of the same creature (the Eternal Witness) in play at the same time.

Eternal Witness is a very fun card! Splash blue and play Familiar's Ruse or Cryptic Command.

And with white...your friend's deck...he already has Eternal Witness and Ghostway. Just add in Mangara.

Ill-Gotten Gains...i like it with Inquiry/Caress...but it isn't modern. It wins games! Forces discard of every one's hand (like Wheel of Fortune) and then each person gets 3 cards from his graveyard back into his hand. Sort of like Wheel of Fortune/Recoup. You simply have Caress in play...and play Ill-Gotten gains...and you nuke your opponent for 2 damage for each card discarded, then you search your library and get back stuff 3 cards like Burning Inquiry/dark ritual/hymn to tourach. Now you are charged back up with your best discard cards in your hand.

Here is my version, back in May, of Inquiry/Caress...if you get a chance to look it over.

Diabolic Edict rocks. The "sacrifices" a creature part is very important! It gets around stuff like Murder misses.

Funny, i was looking at the deck i just sent you a link too...and it doesn't have any creatures either. But at least with Waste Not, you have a way to generate them! Good job there.

Burning Inquiry and Liliana's Caress isn't fair!

I had no idea Windfall was banned in Legacy!!! I have a few of them lying around.
Only thing that scares me is your lack of creatures.
I get the idea...if your deck is fast enough, no creatures will ever be able to attack you. I get it.
Something like pyroclasm against your opponent could be a life saver.
Hellfire Mongrel is an interesting creature that may work.

I do love me some Urza's Guilt.
I always tried to force a deck with Guilt/Warped Devotion/Washout/Recoil/Caress
I could never make it work though.

She could be brutal...i looked at her while making this deck.
She rocks.
I hate how much she costs though.
3 of her would double the price of the deck.

I also thought about her with my Pirates/Land destruction versions of Blink/Flicker.
Drop a pirate, make opponent sack something, then play the Angel, and the pirate comes back into play again, making opponent sack something else.

Definitely worth considering.

berndttoast, do you have any decks with Flicker/Blink?
You obviously get how it works, I know that by your very solid advice/suggestions.
Would be interested to see what you come up with :)

I had 2 Collars, and sold them. Was given to me (along with thousands of other cards...my old friend from school visited me and gave me his entire collection: the idea was...if he had Mtg cards around...he would just keep spending money on them).

I sold them for a decent price to a card company. I have (with other cards I sold them) 55 dollars in credit. Was thinking about buying my green land destruction deck with it.
Or finishing my Goblin Deck. I need 4 Goblin Lackeys. Those aren't cheap!!!

Thought about self mill cards, are any of them Modern legal?
Like Delirium Skeins. That is what my friend runs. It is Modern Legal.
With Waste Not...and Ensnaring Bridge in play...if you actually draw cards via Waste Not...your opponent can then attack you.
You do not want to draw cards with Bridge. That is where self discard comes into play.

I like Quest over Rack too.
Here is the best discard deck I have ever played against:

But, with that said, this deck looks very solid!
Good job, sir!
