MTG is a magnificent game that has so much strategy, creativity & constructivity in it!.. :)

I love this game, since 1999... ...it makes about 4% of my world... :)

For a fresh starter, I can say that even after over a decade, you will be able to discover more and more new stuff that you haven't realized before & because of those, you feel like you're not beggining to get bored of this one bit... ...eventually, people will get bored of about everything, but this is something else...

Good luck!.. ...& if you haven't checked the deck that I posted in the previous comment, than be sure to take a look, 'cuz it might be of help...

I have the deck ready...

I've been ment to say, that your mana base is highly off... ...4 land that could add green mana & 8 red ain't gonna' do it...

Here is my version: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/desecrate-the-gods/

Interesting... ...something like this could work actually... ...but it's not complete yet... ...I really like the fact that Spotlight can assist Vraska's tokens.......

1st... ...Doom Blade could be a dead card at times, since mono-black devotion is one of the most popular decks in standard right now...

All you have here is board control & too much of it... ...you need to use stuff like Thoughtseize & Rakdos's Return (3-3 of each, or 3-2)... ...otherwise, you gonna' suffer against each & every control deck there is.......

So... ...I'd make so many changes, so I'll just make my version of this deck c post it right here soon... ...until than, good luck!..

I also have a Jund midrange-control deck already, tough it's not really creatureless... ...when you have so much board control, Desecration Demon is your guy... : http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/consume-the-heroes/

Very interesting... ...I'd add 2 Guildgates in place of 2 Plains just to stabilese it... ...would also change the pozition from sideboard to mainboard between 3 Thoughtseize, 2 Blessing & 1 Elements...

Heliod is best combined with Ajani's Chosen, since all the enchantment creatures Heliod makes triggers Chosen's ability... ...I have a white devotion deck for home gaming... ...Nykthos used with Heliod while Chosen is also on board makes so many tokens, you can come back after multiple wipes.......

Here's the deck, it might be of help: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/chosen-by-the-spear/

Here's my Orzhov control-aggro, it might could help too: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/the-fallen-divine/

Good luck!

I won't use Lifebain mainboard... ...I also won't use that many Doom Blade mainboard, 'cuz mono-black is quite popular these dayes & this is a dead-card against it... ...Orzhov Charm would be a nice addition, since it's good for removal, saving your creatures(even tough you don't have any auras) & is also good for returning Pantheon to the battlefield... ...I'd use 2 Orzhov Charm, 1 Ultimate Price & 1 Doom Blade along with 3-4 Hero's Downfall... ...remove Eviction from the sideboard & add the 4 Lifebane Zombie there as well as one extra Ultimate Price & Doom Blade.......

You could also add some Mutavault as well... ...in this deck, you'll need 14 land that could add black mana & 13 white, yet you have 20-16... ...so I'd take you 3 Guildgates & a Swamp, than add one Plains & 3 Mutavault.......

Here is my Orzhov control deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/the-fallen-divine/

Good luck!

I'd drop Howl & add another Angel... ...instead of the Scorpion, you should get Wasteland Viper(1 green mana, 1/2, Deathtouch, Bloodrush for 1 green - that means: pay 1 green mana, discard it from your hand & target attacking creature gets +1/+2 & Deathtouch)... ...tough, I'd rather use neither, but a 3rd Angel & something else as well...

So, the total changes I'd make here: -2 Scorpion, -1 Ordeal, -1 Pack, -2 Fog, put the 2 Rootborn Defences in the sideboard... ...+2 Angel, +3 Selesnya Charm, +2 Spear of Heliod...

In the sideboard, I'd use cards, like Bramblecrush(2-3 copies), a 4th Selesnya Charm(it's perfect to deal with indestructible creatures, especially gods & it could also give you a token wich isn't worthless, since you use Rootborn Defences & you didn't add any token cards), so there is those 2 Rootborn Defences, you could add Witchstalker(2-3 copies)... ...Glare of Heresy is also a useful card(1-2 copies is fine)... ...you don't really need Fade into Antiquity, since you already play Selesnya Charm, but 1 copie in the sideboard is ok, since it can also deal with the tools of gods, like Whip of Erebos & such... ...Plummet is a sideboard option as well (2 copies).......

Of course, if you have spare money for more expensive cards that are useful & you can get more than 1 of them, than you should do it... ...I'm talking about Voice of Resurgence, Advent of the Wurm, Trostani(would be perfect for this deck), etc. ...

Here is my Selesnya aggro deck wich wich followes a different strategy(not one of my tournament decks tough, but it's still strong & perfect for testing my other decks): http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/scion-of-the-wurm/

Good luck!

I see... ...so you mean to race budget decks against each other... ...we've never done that, perhaps it would be fun trying out.......

For it's price, this deck is fine & is fun to play... ...the only thing I'd take out is Yoked Ox & replace it with Fleecemane Lion(you could use an indestructible creature with Unflinching Courage)...

The thing I don't like about this deck is you have only low cmc cards & yet you don't have draw-spells that alowes you to cast more of them, especially after a wipe... ...yet again, there really isn't any option for this deck to have draw in it, so the only thing you can do it add a couple of bigger threats that could be surprises after a Verdict, or something of the source... ...yet again, a Voracious Wurm with Hero's Reunion after a wipe could be nice, if you held it back for mid/late-game.......

Overall, I kinda' like this deck!..

Whatcha' think about this one?.. : http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/firedrinker-loyalist/

Thanks!

True, that I play no Sin Collector, nor Lifebane Zombie here, tough I'm still considering them... ...I rather play Duress than Sin Collector, 'cuz it's faster to play & in mid & late-game, it alowes you to cast other spells along with it more often...

Spark Trooper is an interesting idea... ...I'm not sure, if it would work, but I'll give it a try...

If you have room for only 1 Fade into Antiquity, than it's not worth keeping it, so yeah, go with the 3rd Ruric!..

Are anyone in your store playing USA, Bant, or Oros control? I think Bant could alsobe a bad matchup for you, tough not as drastically as Esper & people rarely playing it now, since it did not appear in any top-8 within the big leagues, tough actually, if you construct it well, it's better than Esper... ...Oros control is also rare, tough it happens... ...the places where I play, Oros is quite popular in standard now & is actually one of the strongest deck-types there is.......

I've posted 2 decks here before in my 1st comment... ...1 is the Bant deck I run & the other is the USA control deck that I'll probably use this friday... ...tough I have an Oros deck I might want to try 1st...

Here's the Oros midrange/control: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/whip-of-the-warleader/

Against Esper, Mistcutter is pretty effective... ...yet your burn spells won't do much... ...that is really a bad matchup for Gruul... ...Ruric Thar is amazing against decks like these, so if you're really suffering against Esper, you should use a 3rd Ruric in the sideboard.......

When up against Esper, you should use only 2 Polukranos, since against "ultimate"-control decks, it's not very effective, since the opponent playes very few creatures... ...may be Scullcrack would work against Sphinx's Revelation & a little against Obzedat...

You don't really have many options for removal in Gruul, so AEtherling is gonna' be a problem, 'cuz you need many removal within a turn to take care of it & if the opponent has enough mana, than it's impossible to deal with it... ...you can only restrin it from attacking, or blocking temporarly...

STormbreath is good in that matchup, tough with the Ultimate Prices & Doom Blades, I'm sure you've got mad how easily the opponent toke care of it time after time...

Arbor Colossus is great, it can take care of Angel of Serenity(if the opponent playes it)...

What I'd suggest is if you want to be ready for everything, than don't play Gruul & if you do, than make the ramp-Nykthos part of the deck complete, like Mihara did... ...it's the only thing you can race your opponent out with before he/she could wipe your stuff out... ...I'd use 1 more Domri.......

I know, it's a bit more expensive & it's not what you've been up to, but Naya is so much better... ...it's resellient against every control deck with Voice of Resurgence, it playes Boros Reckoner & the whole deck is so much more agressive... ...you can even use Chained to the Rocks to get rid of bigger threats that Mortars & other burn spells could not deal with.......

Good luck!

In this deck, you don't really have permanents with red mana symbol in them, at least not enough, so Purphoros is a little irrelavent here...

I'd drop that god, also the Bow, Reverly should both be sideboard, no Disciple in sideboard, rather another Mistcutter Hydra, from the main deck I'd take out 1 Stormbreath Dragon & add 1 more Mortars... ...even tough Magma Jet is nice with Domri, I''d cut that too, add another Mortars & another Nykthos... ...you have 16 lands that could produce green mana & 14 red, yet all you need is 13 green & 12 red, so I suggest you take out the Guildgate, 2 forest & 1 mountain, than add 2 more Nykthos & 2 Mutavault... ...than you'd have 4 Nykthos wich is perfect with the 3 Polukranos & 3 Mortars, also great with the sideboard Mistcutter Hydra & allowes you to cast Ruric early at times.......

Overall, the deck looks nice dispite the fact that Purphoros is not a fitting one for this... ...if you want to avoid wipes before you could close the game with your creatures, you should try Hammer of Purphoros wich gives hate to your creatures & even in late-game, if you run out of stuff, you can rely on the tokens it makes... ...may be 2 in the sideboard, or 1 main & 1 side.......

I'd also drop Plummet from the sides & rather use Arbor Colossus... ...drop Bramblecrush & that 1 Anger of the Gods as well, so you can add that 1-2 Hammer & another 1-2 Fade into Antiquity(now way more relavent than Bramblecrush)...

Good luck!

Here is the deck that I used last friday on FNM & under it, the deck I intend to try out this friday:

Yeah, I know about Putrefy, but artifact removal is not too relavent now... ...may be for stuff, like Pithing Needle, but I can deal with that by Abrupt Decay as well... :)

The idea is fine, but you'll be ran over by the enemy... ...& against control, you won't have enough creatures to finish the game... ...but if you draw in the right order, it could be effective...

I think, with a little fewer land destruction & some potential finishers, this deck could become competative... ...some stormbreath dragon, may be polukranos, since you have good ramp here...

Changed the deck a little... ...I've had 3 Downfall mainboard & 3 Sphere sideboard... ...I switched 1-1... ...both a removal, Sphere is only temporary at times, but it can take out anything, even a planeswalker, or a god, may be multiple tokens, or multiple copies of anything... ...Downfall is permanent, it can't take out gods, but it can also deal with planeswalkers & it's instant speed... ...I think this 2-1 balance is just what I need... ...I'll test it now.......

I see... ...well, my favorite format is standard, because it forces players to make well-versed & balanced decks with fewer cards avaleable... ...it's harder to be creative when your arsenal is limited, so it's much of a challange as I see it & I enjoy it very much... :)

About 97% of my decks up here is standard... ...I rarely put up a deck I've made only for fun & casual play... ...besides, I don't like legacy, sice it' usually a 1-4 turn game... ...I like modern & extended, but standard format is the real thing.......

I was out of MTG competetion for 4.5 months, so last month, I had to educate myselfe about what've changed since rotation... :)

Nice thought!

Dismiss into dream really is high on mana cost & can easily be destroyed, or countered... ...there are other methods for dealing with indestructible creatures & such that are cheaper & more relyable... ...that's why I have Merciless Eviction, Angel of Serenity, Detention Sphere in the sideboard & some counters... ...not to say, if I return a creature to it's owner's hand, than after that I can counter it, if I missed it the 1st time it's been cast... ...There aren't many creatures now that could not be delt with by a simple removal, so making all those creatures illusions won't make sense... ...I could oppose 1-3 indestructible creatures within a match, so the special removal I have for those are more than enough... ...the gods are no longer creatures when I cast Verdict & destroy all other creatures anywayes & by a Far // Away(Away), I can deal with a god after I cast Verdict... ...tough I need to look out for Boros Charm & Rootborn Defences, even Ready // Willing(Ready), but I have the Angel, Eviction, Sphere, Away & Cyclonic Rift for those, as well as counters.......

Thanks for your suggestion! The thing I dislike about Dismiss into Dream is that it can not set up creatures with Hexproof, 'cuz the text doesn't say, that those creatures would lose all abilities... ...so it's better to use Merciless Eviction & Cyclonic Rift, plus Away for those, as well as Hexproof creatures without Indestructible can be delt with by Verdict...

If you have any other idea how to make this complete, I'd like to hear it!.. :)
