It really depends on the deck you are playing... some decks require bigger bombs at the end, while most of the decks i like to play have the mana curve cut off at 4cmc. (not the biggest fan of big cards).

Merfolk are a great example of this, incredibly powerful with the highest cmc being 3 in my deck.
another strong deck that thrives on cmcs of 1 and 2 is this sacrifice deck:

Again, magic is very versatile, so it depends on the deck. but these guidelines are for new players, and as such it helps newbies learn the game to have low cost, consistent decks.

Not to sound like a broken record.. I agree with a lot of what you're saying, because it helps NEW players. People who aren't familiar with the game need to work on simple, straightforward, and consistent decks. However, as people become better with deck construction, it's best to steer away from the all 4of rule.

All in all, I think this is a great post that should be read by all of those who are new to magic.

So, this may be a novice question... but why is it called Iso-Pox if you can't put Smallpox on Isochron Scepter?

The deck seems a little hectic to me... what's the goal for this deck? Also, where is etched champion? And for the love of god man, Where is Cranial Plating? That is a must in any artifact deck.

Take a look at my legacy artifacts, theyve got a pretty good win rate:

Interesting deck you got here... I suggest a few more cards. Unless you're going for a Laboratory Maniac Victory :p

I do love a good reanimator deck... but for the love of all that is good and moral, please don't use painter's servant / Iona. It's so unbelievable mean. Use things like Gin Gitaxis or Hellkite overlord. THey almost assuredly lead to a quick win. I recommend an extra entomb, maybe for one less buried alive. a turn one dark ritual into entomb / exhume is really powerful with blazing archon or gin gitaxis.

I am just a huge fan of creatures that pop out of the graveyard over and over

Not sure why you posted this on my pod deck... but it looks very fast, and extremely effective. I'm a fan of your low mana curve, and these recurring creatures are a nightmare for control players :D

Very nice, I recently made a very similar deck focused around priest and blood seeker, with hunted phantasm / ghoul and a lot of bounce for my opponent's creatures. This looks pretty good, I'd say focus less on phantasms and more on blinking hunted or bouncing opponent's creatures to really abuse suture priest.

Looks a little slow to set up, but dark ritual helps... I dunno, it looks like once it is set up, your opponent's options are crying and quitting

GRIZZLE BERS FTW!

Pretty awesome. I took a more "vanilla" route with my bears, and built it around Muraganda Petroglyphs.

Heres my Bear deck:

Yes, the counterspell counts, however, because erayo is worded "played" and not "cast", Im pretty sure that the spell that you counter doesnt count towards the four.

Hm.. I made a similar deck:
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=381130

The only problems can see are as follows:
1) Even with gitaxian probe and ponder, you may find yourself having a difficult time playing 4 spells in one turn before turn 4 or 5, when you really need to have it turn 2 or 3.
2) You don't have any way to ensure that you can get both erayo and curse of exhaustion in your hand. Enlightened tutor is a great way to get your enchantment, and muddle the mixture is a counterspell that transmutes for 2 (ie: get erayo).

Take a look at my version of the deck to see how I make sure I can flip Erayo the turn I play him, then arcane laboratory turn 3.

looks pretty good to me. Costs a little more mana than mine, but it makes up for it in greater consistency. so... yeah, nice job being evil! :D

As someone who knows a little bit about how MTG works, I'd be happy to help anyone who needs it.

And for a deck... hm... I think this one is pretty cool (kind of mean):
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=381130
It's a total lockdown deck (opponents must concede or slowly die to memnites!)

Really easy way to transform erayo? 0 cost creatures, and draw mechanisms (love gitaxian probe).

Take a look at my Erayo Lockdown deck (i'm a little more mean than you):

Bloodline Keeper / Krenko Mob Boss / Kiki-Jiki + other creature and Intruder Alarm
Everytime they tap, play a token, Intruder Alarm untaps them, repeat. Swing next turn for infinite damage.

Melira, Sylvok Outcast + Kitchen Finks / Murderous Redcap + sac engine
Infinite life (finks) or infinite damage (redcap)

Composite Golem + Nim Deathmantle = Infinite mana.
Can be used with viral drake to proliferate poison counters infinitely, or with thopter foundy + sword of meek to get infinite thopters, or just have disciple of the vault for infinite damage.

Have fun using combos that only end at your discretion! :D

Also, have you considered propaganda? with mana web it makes it extremely difficult for your opponenet to attack.. or play anything with over 1 cmc. Then just have chalice of the void for 1 counter. In fact, if you're playing against a mono colored deck, or a deck full of dual lands, then your opponent simply can't play anything. :D
